We've got book reviews, so here's a movie thread.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Angelica Houston, Owen Wilson, Jeff Goldblum

Slow moving, pretty droll. Has some very funny moments but it's pretty downbeat. I'm not sure if this movie is below or above Bill Murray's humour, but if you appreciate low-ish brow, then you'll appreciate the gags.

About a Cousteau-type bloke who sails around making documentries, in an age where the public would pay to see these movies, while the movie makers are out discovering stuff for the benefit of science.

Not sure what to compare it to. Put it this way, if you like movies like Jerry McGuire, Bad Boys or Independence Day, then give this a miss. Otherwise, it's worth watching.

While we're at it, i saw Team America, World Police the other day. What an absolute crack up!

You have to appreciate South Park to consider tolerating this. My wife watched along, somewhat bemused, but i have to say that the marionette sex-scene was very close to crossing the line, if not putting a couple of toes over it.

the vomiting scene was classic, had me pissing myself as i just knew it was going to go on and on, things like that touch me off, was crying with tears...:D

also, the "what's the signal" and response. i do this to lyndal akin to my Sand people/tusken raiders impersonation i do to jarro on golf days....

america-f*ck yeah......

The vomiting scene was beyond disgusting - very funny.

The version i have says "Uncut and Unrated" - makes me wonder - how far did they go in the sex scene in the version you saw? Put it this way, in my DVD version, they very certainly crossed the line, no looking back.

pretty much every position that would come from a stock gonzo film, darn funny..no sex swing in the version i saw....

lyndal was pissing herself during that bit.

she missed all the good celebrity death parts though, darn shame esp. the liv tyler headshot....

Ok, so if i was to say that they went 1 step further than too far, would it mean anything to you?

oh and life aquatic, anothr awesome wes movie.

slow pace suited it i felt, some people accuse bill of dialling it in but that's the character he decided to show.....dafoe was great

the music that noah's character provided for the docos was great.

hey as a lover of new wave and now retro synth (think m83 et al)..perfect and humourous.

I heard that "What the Bleep Do We Know?" is a very interesting movie.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0399877/

Its one of those Arty jobs, that Macca is sure to like.

What the Bleep Do We Know_ is a pseudo-documentary with an non-academic and a flashy, SFX-driven approach, produced by the followers of the Ramtha School of Englightenment. _What the Bleep_ attempts to attack modern beliefs regarding materialism by interweaving a story of a mute photographer with commentary by carefully-selected talking heads who spew occasional "facts" on supposed miracles of nature that defy materialism and half-truths regarding quantum physics.

Went to the drive-in tonight. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was on first. Cool show.
Life Aquatic was the 2nd movie and after about 30 minutes there was a steady stream of cars leaving the grounds. Us included.
Absolute crap.

I saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire last night. GoF is my favourite book from the series (haven't read no. 6 yet), and I think the movie is the best to date too.
I really enjoyed it. The first two movies were a bit too much at kiddy level for me. The third seemed a bit weird. But this one seemed to have the right mix.

Plenty of action. Some good humour too. Do yourself a favour...

Anyone else seen it yet?

Yep AndyP. We went and saw it and loved it. I agree that it's the best of the books - and also the best movie. Looking forward to going and seeing it again.

If you want to review movies, try the four word film reviews at www.fwfr.com. Reviewing movies in four words or less.

In light of some of the movies earlier

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Less Cousteau, more Clouseau.
Murray's 'Life of Brine'.
Sea son with salt.
Caddyshark.

Team America

Puppets of mass destruction.
Puppetry of the penisless.
String quartet saves world.
Thunderbirds kick terrorist arse.

A few of my all time favourite reviews

Kramer Vs Kramer - I bet Kramer wins.
Saving Private Ryan - Brother gets own bedroom.
Passion Of The Christ, The - Gory, gory, hallelujah.
American Pie - Passion of the crust.
Basic Instinct - Crossed, uncrossed, HELLO, crossed.

A really funny site.

Also includes four word tasteless obituaries, where a movie star is given an obituary using one of their movies or roles or similar

eg
Barbra Streisand --------- You're dead, Mother Focker
Morgan Freeman ---------- Organ-free Man.

And four word porn reviews, where the name gets changed to reflect their dirty altar ego.

eg
Russell Crowe ------- Glad-he-ate-her
