Hello All

Can anyone point me in the right direction. I am after a pair of sunglasses that are targeted at golfers but I need prescription single vision lens and I have a current script. I would prefer to buy on line to try to save a buck or two but if this can't be done I live and work in Brisbane on the southside. Any help would be great.

Thanks

read this, http://www.ozgolf.net/showthread.php/8588-Specialised-Prescription-Sunglasses-for-Golf?highlight=prescription

your best bet is to go overseas for this, I buy all my glasses online now. Never had a problem.
AU prices are hugely expensive for Golf specific products, like $500+

Wow, nice thread. Do you still wear the Bolle Vigilante sunnies? How do they go, how's about an update? :) Cheers!

Gday, I can get Rudy Project and Oakley at a good discount for you.
As for getting prescription made overseas.. Beware. I have seen all sorts of f@#$$ ups made with them. (buckleys of getting any warranty too)
Pm me with your prescription and I will give you a quote.

I have worn prescription sunglasses for golf for 15 years or so. I recently switched to 'Transitions' and quite like them. I used to find that in early mornings or late arvos the tinted glasses would be too dark, but the transitions turn into normal specs in those conditions, which is perfect.

My last set were around $40 out of pocket with Medibank Private blue riboon extras from the Optical Superstore on Adelaide Street in Brisbane.

I went to my local eye guy for new glasses. He found me some Columbia prescription polarized sunglasses which I use for golf and fly fishing. Awesome as I don't need a pair for golf and a pair for fly fishing....

Hey foore how much are prescription sunnies usually? Does it cost much more extra to put in the prescription? The sunnies I wear now I claimed on my private health insurance so no idea about the price. I might contact you too in the near future about some sunnies as well, just need a trip to the optomotrist to get my eyes retested and my prescription....

Another guy who should be able to help you out is Kevin Barr at Barz Optics.
Situated at Currumbin. Check it out here http://www.barzoptics.com/

I've had a pair of his non script Nauru Polycarbonates for over 5 years as everyday sunnies...still going strong!

Since i changed to Brown lenses i havent had to worry about that, they are fine in low light. In fact it gets brighter with the glasses on.

Were the Bolle Parole's out when you got yours? Looks like they are basically almost the same as Vigilantes but slightly smaller frame...

Hmm... wish they showed pics of the glasses on peoples faces. I've got a pretty big head so the large size might be good, but not sure if I need safety goggle large if you know what I mean...

In reply to Just.

I am happy with my Rudi Project Sunnies. They have photochromic golf brown lenses in them.

I'm really happy with my Rudy Project glasses with golf specific lenses as well. I just need to get some yellow lenses for shooting for them now.

Hi Just, are you talking golf ones or for general use?
if you are after general, any frame fitted with Nupolar Drivewear lenses!!

I think that the photochromatic sunnies are the way I need to go as well. i have a pair of Rudy Project bike glasses with clear, red, yellow and brown lens' that I rotate depending on the weather, but it would be much easier with a photochromatic lens.

I rang the local reseller of the Rudy Projects and she started spelling out the costs. Once she reached $600, and wasn't finished yet, I told her not to worry about it, as i knew that they were available online for below $300.

I don't begrudge local businesses from having to make a margin (heck the place i work at makes 55% on what we import) but I just cant justify that sort of money.

absolutely ... my local optometrist has a good range so I am going to have a look at what he has .. but if he starts talking those prices I am out of there. But at least I can work out what I like 8)

I have the Rydon photochromatic Rudi's for riding, but use my Oakley M frames prescriptions for golf only.

I guess both. I have pterygiums so need some new sunnies after breaking the last couple of pairs, don't have any sight issues other than that. Do the Nupolar's come in off the rack sunnies or are they through optometrists? Anyone know if sunnies through optometrists are claimable on private health insurance?

You can only claim if they have a prescription in them. I am not aware of any sunnie with the Drivewear in a stock lens. I believe Mako, Maui Jim, Rayban and possibly a few others that to a similar lens, but mostly in glass (probably not the best idea for golf :))
can you get the pterygiums removed or has it gone to far?

Doctors have told me not to bother since they are likely to re-occur and I can keep the irritation under control with eye drops. Bugger on the insurance thing, times like these you wish you needed prescriptions.
What is the best non prescription (ie. Oakley/Rudy) transitional lens?

I love them.

Did i ask you about the lenses for shooting? I know I meant to, just can't remember if I did.

as long as it doesn't grow in front of your pupil, then you would loose vision and most likely not get it back even with removal.
is there any particular colours you would prefer, and starting tint %.

I've ended up ordering a pair of sunnies through the same mob MTB got his awhile back as he outlined in his other thread. Only bad thing I found with that site was that you had to give your credit card details in to register a username and password. Wierd but we'll see what happens...
