View Full Version : Reaching a Goal

Today Mitch reached one of those, Goals.
He broke 90 for the first time, in the Sunday junior monthly medal, Shooting 42, 47, 89
The 42 on the front was with a birdie, par finish and only 1 x double
The back nine started well, with a 3 putt 6 (par 5)
Sandy par on the next (par 3)
Then he thought he had blown all chances with a Triple, Double, and 7 (par 3) to be 9 over for the 3 hole stretch. He was nearly in tears. I worked it out that he could still do it with 2 par’s and 2 bogies, he sparked up again and bogeyed 15, pared 16, bogeyed 17, so it all come down to paring the last par 5
Driver, driver off the deck to 110mt to the pin, duffed 7 iron to 52mts from the pin. Pitching wedge to 10 feet and sunk the putt.

The fist pump and the smile on his face,:) is one of those things, that as a parent you never forget

Woohoo! Congrats to young Mitch.

What is his age and handicap now?
At my club we have 3 Japanese boys that are showing significant talent for their ages, they are 8, 10, 12, and play off 30, 18, and 5. You might even know them already as you have been playing the junior events

I am interested in the comparison cos Mitch is a bit of a benchmark as I know how good he has been for a long time.

awesome, he has got so much of a platform to start from, he will be way ahead of the 8ball by the time skirts start diverting his attention :-)

Out of interest, what's the level of talent you expect to see from the top golfers at that age? Breaking 90 at 11 seems pretty impressive to me, but then again I struggle to break 90 myself.

Good question Larry, at the Junior masters last year, 13 and under kids shooting par rounds, averaging around the 75 mark
I think it all comes down to growing and strength, Mitch still has problems reaching a par 4 in 2 so he is developing a good short game
Funny game golf, like all the big hitters, as he gets older and stronger he will start missing fairways but the short game will help him score.
