Had a ten lately, then tell us your tale of woe.

For me.

Carbrook Shark back tee event, today 10th hole.

Short dog leg right, which is a fairway metal tee shot and a 9 iron approach.
Well in theory anyway.

1/ 7 wood into the middle of the lake
2/ penalty
3/ Dropped and then hit 6 iron into the waste bunker before the green
4/ air mailed the flag into the back hazard next to the creek.
5/ advanced ball 2metres remaining in hazard.smashed my new wedge into a brick that was hidden in the tundra.
6/ swipe with no contact
7/ out and next to green
dropped 2 balls that I found in the hazard and smashed them into the river.
8/ bump and run
9/ putt
10/ putt

There is also an OOB area at the left right back of that green! lucky you missed it!;)

It has been a while since I had a moose, I will have to look back in my stats and see if can remember the pain!

Kennedy Bay Classic Stroke Round: Saturday Round.

13th Par 5. One of the easier holes on the course

1) Tee shot into shit right. Prov melted up the centre.
2) Aldo finds tee shot perched in a shrub. 7 iron perpendicular to line of play.
3) Found in a little divot type hole in the shit on the other side of fairway. Wedge into ball into bush.
4&5) Drop into same divot hole. Lost ball into bush.
6&7) See above
8) wedge out success! 200 m to go.
9) Big high gay cut. Lost.
10&11) Hybrid to front edge of green.
12) Gay chip to about 30 feet.
13) Really gay putt to about 15-20 feet.
14) Sink massive curler for a 14!

Sunday Round

18th Hole Par 4 One of the hardest holes on the course.

1) Good tee shot into the teeth of the wind. Approx 200m to go.
2) Decide to lay up into some bushes about 100m short and right of the green. Hit Prov exactly where I want it.
3&4) While having cursory look for surely lost ball playing partner finds ball. Forced to take drop. Hit solid seven iron approx 5m left of green into the shit. Prov lands pin high.
5) While having cursory look for surely lost ball helpful playing partner finds it in deep kack. Have no line to go back on, attempt to chip out. Airswing.
6) Make contact this time, and actually get it to move slightly forward.
7) Great success! Chip out but the contouring of the hole causes the ball to roll back from the green, along a cart path and into some more shrubbery completely blocked out.
8&9) Helpful course pro gives rules advice on taking a line back to driving range. Hit solid 50m wedge to approx 10 feet.
10) Putt just curls by.
11) Tap in par.

I chipped in for an 11 on the 3rd @ Mareeba. Around 2002/3

1. OOB
3. Water hazard, took a drop.
5. OOB
7. OOB
9. Just cleared the water
10. Approach misses green
11. Chipped in.

Wouldn't that make it 14? Two stroke penalty for hitting the wrong ball. Twice.

And a 10 is a moose, as it can be characterised by holding 10 fingers up at the side of the head, like moose antlers.

Ask Billyman next time you see him about his Eagle-Moose at Rocky a few years back. After having eagle on 10 he had a great round going until he Moosed the 16th. (which isn't that hard to do)

He was awarded the first ever Eagle Moose trophy. :)

My Moose:

Scenario: about to start 2nd round of club champs and I am equal 2nd
1st PAR 5
1. Big slice that stops 3' short of right hand bunker
2. Top 3 wood into bunker
4. Try to hit 4 iron, catch edge
5. 8 iron to middle of fairway (220m to go)
6. 3 wood up right side, hits a stick and jumps into a bush
7. 4 iron tap out from under tree
8. 60* wedge to 3'
9. Lip out to 2'
10. Easy in

Result 104 off stick and my first round over 100 in years!

Talk us through it Spud Ok. Start with the 15th. Straight downwind in pouring rain. Hit PW 160 through the green. Yikes.16th. 500m Par 5 with lake left off the tee. Straight back into the wind and rain. Drove, ended up in thick trees right. Caught tree. Punched out, which hit casual water and stopped dead.Had 220 to flag, 160 carry if i went left. Smashed 3 wood, held up in wind, landed in the piss 2m short.Walk up and drop, 140 to go. Smash 4 iron. 2m short.Smash 4 iron 40m left of pin, just get there. Chipped and lipped out the putt for 9.Then the rain and wind stopped like a switch was flicked.(It came back 3 minutes later)

Shot a moose on the 11th at Balaklava today. Sitting front and centre on a good lie after my second; hosel rocket right, into dense scrub with my third. I find my ball pin high but in a nest of twigs ~20m from green. Better contact than expected with my fourth sends my ball in a neat parabola over the green into patchy rough, 10m from green. I find my ball on a bare, wet clay lie. Fifth, sixth and seventh expended getting the ball onto the green. Three putt to finish! 🤕

Checking in here too. What a glorious day for a Bullwinkle in the Snowtown Open.

The 6th hole is the courses signature hole.
393m par 4. Hole bends it's way around the salty water hazard on the left with lots of mini salt bush and mud. The fairway is sloped from the fence line towards the water hazard on a sharp angle. Out of bounds all the way on the right also. There is no bail out option on this hole.
As harsh as it may seem. This is a great golf hole.
See pic below.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160911/fdc1900098324863f891131e86dd736a.jpg

Here's how I made a moose with extras ☹️
Pulled driver off the tee. Ball in hazard.
Took 5 iron from the point of entry position to only take a bit of it on to get around the 150m rather than a lot with a 5 wood to get near 100m out.
Bladed that and it hits the dirt mound short off the hazard and sits on top in long grass.
Need wedge to hack it back towards fairway. Grass grabs head and hoods it over chopping it deep into hazard.
Point of entry is hit from same spot or go further backwards. Take the wedge again and hit that fat leaving it in the hazard still but possibly playable.
Nope, ball is in a little bush so take a drop out off the hazard. Finally get one into play leaving 80m to the scrape.
Leave that green high. Chip on for 10 and lip the 4 footer out for 11 to finish with a 12 [emoji106]

Combined our group of 3 had 26 on the hole [emoji3]

Just checking in a classic Moose.

Par 5 deep in the trees off the tee, try and thread the needle and boom right back at me. Take a more sideways shot for the next and run it through the fairway into the jungle, take an unplayable and knock one down the fairway.

Have about 60 to the pin. Blade an easy sand wedge through the green over the back onto cart path. Try and chip into side of green and just pop it up and onto green. Catch it clean an land on green and roll through into bunker. Bunker shot to 10ft and miss putt for 9.

That was the 17th, toast after that and take an ugly 8 on the par 4 18th.

Had a 10 on a short par 4 including 5 shots in a greenside bunker (that I drove it in to)!
Was tied for the lead in the club champs at the time. Genuinely tried on every shot.

Tee shot ended up in unraked foot marks.
First bunker shot buried under lip.
Second didn't move it
Third moved it back into my footmarks
Fourth hit lip again but came back out.
Fifth bunker shot skinned over green under tree
Seventh shot (chip) ran well past the hole
3 putts including a 4 footer for my ten!

Please explain?

18th hole Byron Bay off the blacks. Nice drive right side of fairway, solid hybrid that carried approach bunkers and just ran out of steam to run onto green, instead just ran across and down front bank.

When I got too ball there was another ball on path just near my ball. So double checked it was my ball. All good just need to bump and run a chip up the bank onto green. Hit my spot on the bank but ball kicked hard left up and over swale.

No problem I thought easy chip from just off green and the way I was putting anything inside 10ft was a fair chance of going in. So walk up and over swale and my ball exactly where I thought it would be so just pop a lodge wedge onto soft stuff and roll onto green this time missed the soft stuff by a few inches and hit downslope of green and run through about 15-20ft.

Still happy easy 2putt bogey. Go to mark my ball and it wasn't my ball. Turns out there was another random ball near the green and my ball had run down the slope a bit further and sitting down a bit.

So now with a 2 stroke penalty and a quiet brain explosion happening take wrong club down the slope, gap wedge instead of lob wedge. Have a chip that needs to hit the green as the soft stuff will stop ball dead. Too pissed off to care now so don't go and change the club 4 chips later and a couple of putts. We have 11

My father in law told me he had a 27 on a par 5 today which included 19 from the bunker. Can't say I would have let it get that far myself. If i was 19 in a bunker I would be hitting driver as all other clubs would be in a broken pile by that stage.

Nice little 11 for me on the 17th at city this morning.
1. Driver to right edge half a foot off fairway, nothing wrong here
2. Awkward stance so naturally belt a 3 wood which I top into the trees right
3. Hit tree chipping sidways
4. Chip out to 135 out.
5. 8i to right bunker
6. out to other side of green
7. take stance and accidentally tap ball
8. putt to 3 feet low
9. putt
10. putt
11. putt

Par 5 4th at Kooralbyn. At one point I was provisionally 7 off the tee so 10 wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

Edit: The provisional 7 was on the previous hole, a par 4. Finished with an 8. It’s a bit of a blur.

11th hole at Queenscliff, par 5. Generous fairway, but I snap hooked my first one into some thick waist high native grass. Needed to reload, but the bags were 100m away near the 10th tee and I didn't have a spare ball with me. Borrowed a ball off a partner, and snap hooked that into the same spot. Sorry mate. No balls left on the tee (or nobody wanted to admit they had one), so I had to walk to the bag. I was closer to the ball than the tee, so I had a look, but after finding the 4th abandoned ball that wasn't mine I realised it was a lost cause and jogged back with my driver and a couple of balls.

5 off the tee, tried to play a massive cut and managed a big draw to the left edge of the fairway. 3 wood to 140 out, then snap-hook-chunked a mid iron along the ground to the edge of a water hazard. It finished precariously stuck in long grass on the edge of the hazard, so I had to stand with my feet almost in the water (almost fell in) and the ball at waist height. Tried to grip a 7 iron way down near the bottom and hack out, and missed. And missed. And missed again. I was giggling by this stage. 4th attempt moved about 2m and made it onto level ground. Chipped over the back, putted back up and holed a 5-footer like a pro.

Playing partner said he had 6 for 2, I said I had 14 for 1 to much mirth.

Played Maroochy River on Sunday, was having an absolute shocker in some very difficult conditions.

Walked off the 17th green and said to my mum "at least I haven't had a 7 today".

18th tee, found the fairway, 150 in to the howling headwind, hit 6 iron fat and dropped it in the water guarding the green. Took my drop, knifed that in to the wall and back in to the same water. Dropped again, spun it to a foot and tapped in for a 7. What a day. Shot 88 for a nett 85 haha.

I do recall thinking "this could be a big number" after I hit the 7th towards the hazard. After that it was just funny. I also recall thinking I should have just taken a drop the first time after the 3rd miss. Where's the fun in that though?

Pulled straight left into the boonge.
Reload for 3.
Couldn't be arsed looking for the first cause I would take too many to get back to the fairway.
Tried to steer my 4th shot instead of just hitting it resulting dead behind a gum tree.
Chip out for 5
6th came up short and landing on a sprinkler head, shooting straight left into the rough.
Chip onto the green for 7
First putt went about 2/3 the way on a big left to right break for 8.
Second went under the hole for 9
Then just tapped around the hole till it went in.
Total: 12
Care factor lost when walking to the ball after my 4th as when I was lining up, I was telling myself to just hit through it and not to steer it. Been a problem shot for me over the last couple of weeks and
can't get it through my stupid head.

I had a moose and a snowman on the weekend. First comp round since June and only realized it was stroke when I went to mark the cards after the first. Awesome. It was rocks or diamonds all day. Mostly rocks. 2 par fives in 3 holes on the back nine are usually pretty straightforward. Ran out of both talent and luck and ended up with a 10 and 8. Lost all chance of giving a shit after that.

250m par 4 7th at Royal North Haven during our MMedal round today.

Drive was straight but ballooned up into the teeth of a 3 club headwind and landed 92m short of the pin. Now the wind was into from the right but I didn't want to aim right because there's a shitty greenside bunker immediately to the right of the pin. I went straight expecting the ball to drift left, as it did.

I landed pin high, 10 m to the left of the pin on a patchy, grabby Kikuyu lie. I did think to putt the ball up on the green but opted for a very short lob with my 60 deg.

Skulled the ball across the green and over the bunker and faced a 25m lob back over the bunker with no green to play with before the pin and a 3 club tail wind.
The softest lob shot I could muster got me just short of the pin but with too much backspin which rolled my ball off the green, and into the bunker.
Shot out of the bunker went too far and was 10m further to the left than I was three shots ago.

Opted for another lob but I concentrated on not skulling another so much that I chilly dipped this one a metre.

Head officially off, I proceeded to do exactly the same thing with my next shot before pulling my putter out and three putting for a 10. ;)
