View Full Version : Vic: St Andrew's Beach (AndyP Visit), Sunday September 19, 9:18a

AndyP
24th August 2010, 11:22 AM
I should have given more notice, as I've known that this would be my golf day on my trip down there for a family holiday. I'm not locked into this day (I have full days from Thu 16th to Wed 22nd), but I thought more people would be available on the weekend.

Talk to me about potential courses, and declare your interest to play.

Scores:
1. AndyP 32pts
2. Bruce 27pts
3. ozdevil 25pts
4. LarryLong 24pts
5. Flowergirl 23pts
6. Chappy 23pts

I'm in Vic until the 18th at this stage... would consider extending for an ozgolf day!

AndyP
25th August 2010, 02:34 PM
That would be cool, k.

Southern is a possibility, chappy.
Is St Andrews Beach a chance even though some of you just played there?
Portsea and Moonah Legends are courses I haven't played that rate well too.

Would be a bit of travel time involved, unlikely that i'll have a car, but i'll work around what you guys decide. St.AB is a great course mate, worth a hit for sure... i haven't played southern or portsea either.

I'm hoping I might be able to show up for this one, depending on what the wife has planned out for me. If it's on the peninsula I'm keen as long as somebody can pick me up from the ferry and drop me off post-hit (which means I'll let you win). If it's on the sandbelt I'll just have to take the car and drive to that horrible city one more time. :)

Bruce

Surely StAB is the 1st choice for the visitor.
Happy to pick anyone up that needs a lift.

AndyP
25th August 2010, 09:03 PM
If you are keen to play at StAB again, Bruce, then I don't mind.

I'll be staying in St Kilda, and will have access to a car, but company for the drive sounds like a better idea. I did initially toy with the idea of 36 holes in a day, but that's too full on and takes away from being able to socialise after the round.

I would love the chance to play St Andrews again. Love that course!! Be great to catch up with you all again. :) Happy to have you all around to our house afterwards and throw some snags on the bbq. We live about 7 mins away from the course.

Come on all you Vics. It's about time we all got together. :)

I'm still good for the Friday round, just hoping a few others are as well!

Booked for 9:18a for 9 people at $69 a head.

Numbers need to be finalised by the end of this week in this thread, as they require payment six days before the day. Is this standard for StAB? I guess I'll need to collect the money this week too, unless we can ring them individually.

Bruce
6th September 2010, 07:03 PM
I've only ever paid on the day.

AndyP
6th September 2010, 07:09 PM
Was that for Sunday play, Bruce? Is it worth questioning?

Webster
6th September 2010, 07:16 PM
I have heard there have been quite a few no-shows down there of late due to the weather, so it's a reasonable request for larger groups.

AndyP
7th September 2010, 08:31 PM
The lack of responses in this thread is concerning, especially when pre-payment is involved. I'll contact the club tomorrow to see if it can be paid individually, then send all on the list a PM.

LarryLong
7th September 2010, 08:48 PM
Last time I played there I paid on the day, but that was before the sale went through. Happy to pay up front if you can provide some character witnesses. :)

AndyP
8th September 2010, 02:48 PM
I rang the club today, and pre-payment is only required if there are more than 8 players. I was trying to get us 3 groups in case we had a couple of latecomers, but I've now dropped us back to 8 and we can pay on the day. Phew!

It would still be nice to get some confirmation of numbers early in the week though.

LarryLong
13th September 2010, 07:39 PM

I guess that excuse gets you over the line. :) Have fun playing with your little one!

By the way, does anybody else think mint's avatar looks like one of the Daddo brothers, or is it just me?

Ha! I hadn't noticed that before :)

Funny how your hands can get slippery after a bad shot.

So does this mean we've got a free spot available? Any other Vic OzGolfers free on Sunday?

just a word of warning for those of us travelling from the western suburbs or from northern suburbs which is probably only me but the toll closure between power and toorak rd 9pm -9am on the 18th... not sure wether it is from the city heading out or the city coming in

AndyP
15th September 2010, 07:24 PM
I hope your attendance isn't in doubt, Chappy.

They called me today and left a message, since I haven't pre-paid. I'll sort it out tomorrow.

chappy1970
16th September 2010, 09:40 AM
Andy I'm still trying my best to get a sitter, it's bad timing as my wife works Saturdays and every second Sunday and unfortunately this Sunday is her work day.

I'm having trouble convincing anyone that looking after my 7, 4 and 2 YO for 6 hours is a good idea.

Only if you also have top hat, tails and dimaond encrusted 'grills' as per T-Pain.

That is good Chappy - but I am going to upset the applecart. John has hurt his shoulder and is a non starter. He was hoping it would be ok - it is touch and go - but it is better to be on the safe side. Hope this doesn't cause any grief. Sorry.
I will be there - wearing my Black and White with pride. :)

I will pick you up LL. I'll look out for the guy carrying clubs and you can look out for my car. Silver Mitsubishi Outlander - Number plate REENY. And I prbably look like your mum. :) Make sure you ring me if you have missed the ferry. Oh - and that just sounded like a mum. :) Bruce has PM 'd you my number.
See ya there. :)

Let's just hope it stops bloody raining. I am so over it!!!!

Is Bruce driving a minibus?

Sorry for the late response - fell asleep watching the footy. :)

Will Bruce need a minibus to fit your course notes and game plans in Andy?

AndyP

Top day. Top course. Top company. Thank you all.

I'll get some scores up soon, and maybe some thoughts on the round. It's dinner time soon, and I'm feeling damn tired. I guess that's a combination of the longish day, wind and hills. It was all worth it though.

Bruce
19th September 2010, 06:36 PM
Geez I am tired now.

2 rounds played and 7 hours driving to support those rounds.

LarryLong
19th September 2010, 06:58 PM
Tiredness is a common thread here.

And for those looking for results - AndyP took the Victorians to the cleaners, with only Bruce coming close. Can't remember the scores because I'm trying to forget. I would have topped 50 putts for the day (seriously!) but I enjoyed the company and the course.

Thanks all.

Bruce

tiredness whats that i wanted to do another 18 but no one would be in that :) then again i think an ambulance would have been needed to stretcher me back...

it took it out of me that course...

I really enjoyed playing it even though i struggled around it but was very happy for a hackers performance... having 3 wipes to start then pulling a few holes back in the back 9 even managed a 4 pointer

it was a pleasure meeting you all i had alot of fun

definately a course i would play again... i cant get over how wide those fairways where but ya second shot can be bit tight with some of those narrow greens

AndyP
19th September 2010, 08:06 PM
Scores:
1. AndyP 32pts
2. Bruce 27pts
3. ozdevil 25pts
4. LarryLong 24pts
5. Flowergirl 23pts
6. Chappy 23pts

Some of those green surrounds were very tricky, and although I mostly avoided having to play trick shots or bump and runs, there was a lot of putting done from several metres away. There were several failed attempts at this within our group where the ball either came back to us, or went through the green and down a hill. The 8th, 10th and 17th come to mind.

chappy1970
20th September 2010, 09:37 AM
In my defence (23pts), and this is quite a weak defence, I didn't play the 17th or 18th as I needed to get home to relieve the baby sitter.

Great course would love to have another go at it.

Fantastic to finally meet Andy, always great to see and play with Rennie, and Bruce, Mick and Brendan and great guys.

Thanks for organising it and hope to play a little better next time

Top day - top company - bad golf on my part - but -hey - two out of three not bad. Maybe I needed Jack there again to get me fired up. My short game was appalling but after having not being able to hit a decent ball for weeks there were a few good ones.
Lovely to meet up again with Andy, Bruce and Chappy and to meet LarryLong and OzDevil. Hope those stains come out Mick. :)
