Long live the king!

I think Europe have a great chance this year. They really sine some great young players coming through.

Rory, The M Brothers, Kaymer.

Haven't seen the final list yet, but I reckon they're more than a chance!!!

The only weak link in the European team might be Captain Colin Crankypants

No Padraig (prob), no Sergio - GOOD - these 2 were the problem last time out!!!

Do you reckon Tiger gets one of the Captain's Pick?
Pavin will be damned if he does, damned if he doesn't...OUCH!!!

Europe looks to have the stronger team on paper.
On the US side, I do look forward to seeing a foursome pairing of Bubba Watson and Zach Johnson...that would be a special combo!!!

Hamo84
16th August 2010, 10:58 PM
I think Pavin would have to pick Tiger, he is world number one after all... and whilst he is playing crap golf atm you never know what he could do in this event.

I do agree that the Euro's appear to have the stronger team on paper, some other names like Westwood (if fit), Ross Fisher, Poulter and Casey could also be in the mix.

As for Colin Mongomerie, well he has a share of his own issues atm

That's always one of the interesting things for me - who the captains pair together in the foursomes and fourballs.

I still laugh at some of the pairings Hal Sutton put together some years ago.

Wales have put so much effort in for this as well. It's a true credit to them.

Although, all effort is wiped out after they didn't keep Julia Gillard for themselves! :)

It's a big call the whole Ryder Cup is a big show, wives etc. How much is Tiger hated by the WAGS. Pavin and Lehman, mmmm, not exactly the live and let live guys, they are leading the bible study group, again I imagine Tiger is hardly their "bud".

All that said it's about money and TV ratings so he is first selected.

3 out of 4 majors this year were won by Euro tour players (albeit one is Sth African). Hopefully the Europeans will win 75% of the matches at the Ryder Cup also.

Euro Captains picks are E Molinari, Harrington and Donald. Justin ROse and P Casey miss out, the announcement was made mid round during the final round of the Barclays and with Casey and Harrington paired together made for an akward pairing between Harrington and Casey

One person I wouldn't want anywhere near that place would be Sergio. Surely he can only bring bad luck. Watch for the Euro team to be missing 3 footers and have 6 footers coming back!!!

I foresee a weather problem at the Ryder Cup...

...the location at that time of the year is unpredictable at best, with deep fog being a very common issue. So much time will be lost methinks !!!!

Harrington over Casey or Rose???
Harrington is Europe's version of Lefty...poor record at the Ryder Cup, but how could you not pick one of the better players???

It was pretty good viewing of the Molinari brothers in action this past Sunday (pity Rumford got done in)...

But at least Lefty has won a few tournaments the last few years. I'm afraid Harrington is just about done. He has never been near that 2008 form again. When was the last time he went really low? I can't recall anything out of the ordinary.

he hasn't gone really low - he did have a 63 or 64 in the Irish European Tour event, and was in the hunt (and was even leading at one stage) couple of weeks ago, but the stigma of those 8s on will stick with him for a while!!! :)

He's gone the stack & tilt Ray??
He seems to be tinkering with it by some of the positions he is rehearsing after a wayward shot. Such as keeping more weight on the left side/leg and a steeper shoulder plane during the backswing. Similar fundamentals that Sean Foley incorporated into Mike Weir's swing. He seems to be focusing on eliminating that dipping and raising squat that he developed somewhere along the line. I would think that his goal is to forge a swing something like Hunter Mahan's (another in Foley's stable). It will be interesting to see what develops.

By the way, I have been completely perplexed by the strategies of some of these Fourballs. It seems that when both partners have a putt for an equal score, the closer one is often putting first, and I dont mean in situations where they are away but chose to play out of turn.

That is a contradiction of how I always played 4BBB, the hardest putt always goes first. I even saw on some occasions where the partner putted for a birdie when his partner had an outside Par putt, which is also odd.

The photo is priceless but the TV coverage is a disgrace. FoxSports 1 TV Guide online still showing they will have it on at 11:30pm.
Fingers crossed they do and it isn't all over by then!

Did anyone see Hanson's chip on 15 from the hazard yesterday...

Did anyone else notice how he grounded his club on the backswing... and they won with his up and down and they won by a shot . . .

I saw that, I am not confident on my understanding of that rule though, the grass he touched was several inches above the ball?

anyways thats the beauty of matchplay, the armchair referees cant dob this time :-)

The club is not considered grounded until the grass would support the weight of the club. No penalty could be called.

Has got nothing to do with it. The fta's abuse their position on sports telecasts. If they were not telecasting it you would be pretty sure Fox would. But because of our stupid anti syphoning laws they get away with letting us down time and time again.

Well I missed the final round as most of us did but until then this tournament was amazing. One of the best I've watched.
The rain and forced scheduling in October due to the FedEx Cup didn't help. I'm guessing OneHD were obligated to show Commonwealth Games before 12?

So they eventually played it but on delay?

Disgraceful performance from One HD and they missed one of the best golf events I can recall. Watched it on the lap top and could not walk away....that final two hours was as gripping as golf can be and proves match play is a far more entertaining format than stroke. Felt sorry for Mahan humiliating himself but the end result was the right one. The Europeans played the best golf of the week and deserved the win. If only the Presdients Cup at RM next year could be half as entertaining...

great golf to watch, even had the missus watching it on the cpu and she can't stand golf.

TEN already had the Comm games on their standard channel so it should of been no problem to show the last day of the Ryder Cup. Great to see Europe win, how strong was McDowell coming down the stretch, do feel for Mahan though that was serious pressure.

I did Rod. Ricky Fowler was sensational on his last 3 holes. From 3 down he birdied the last three and squared the match. I can see why Pavin picked him.

I didn't see Tiger hit a shot in the 3 hours I watched it. He was 9under when his match finished on the 15th. He must have had a relaxing night beforehand. The US really lost it on the previous day when they only scored a half point to Europe's 5 points. It was a big ask to win from 3 points behind IMO. Pavin made some interesting pairings which I am sure he will be criticised for back home.

dunno what you were all complaining about, The TV Guides at Yourtv.com.au and on the interactive TV Screen were both showing that the Ryder cup was being broadcast on One HD from 11.30pm. I cant think why someone wouldnt look there?

But because of our stupid anti syphoning laws they get away with letting us down time and time again.

The Antisiphoning laws have been watered down a bit about 5 years ago or more, and and event such as the Ryder Cup would never have been including in the Anti siphoning list of events anyway, as it was never a significant sport.

Ryder cup was never included in the anti syphoning laws. It never used to be shown on FTA TV because no one wanted it.

One and ten were committed to the games. Not least because it rates much higher. At least we got the cup. :)
