FT 9 8.5
Cobra S9.1 Pro 8.5
Ping i15 8
Mizuno MP630 9.5
R9 460 8.5

The only thing missing is a good putter collection to go with it.

I do stand and applaud the relentless pursuit of perfection.

There are those that will say you are misguided, perhaps even our former PM

I don't recall you mentioning any of them were overly crap.....

Probably because it'll affect resale. ;)

4th August 2010, 02:31 PM
No, you are correct as well.

I loved the R9 8.5 and R9 460 8.5. The 909 D2 9.5 Voodoo was excellent, the 909 D3 8.5 Voodoo was superb too.

There are none really any better than others, although I really didn't like the FT Tour but it had an NV75 in it too.

Even the Cobra S9.1 Pro goes well enough, it just sounds....... disturbing, for me :)

Where to next ? $240 for an R9 460 new ? I have the i15 arriving some stage soon but I think it's just another unchartered waters that maybe I shouldn't enter ?

TheNuclearOne
4th August 2010, 05:51 PM
Don't you buy most knowing you'll either sell em right away or have a couple of hits and sell them? I thought it was more of a selling hobby. Could be wrong too LOL

markTHEblake
4th August 2010, 06:09 PM
We all have to have a hobby, its probaby better that you blow your money on drivers, rather than substances or pokermachines as many do.
The problemyou will have to end up facing if you do give up, is what will you then do, collect stamps?

4th August 2010, 06:30 PM
So after all that 3 what have u learnt about all those drivers? Anything really impress? Have u kept any?

I've been through about 7 or so drivers in the last year, however I came to the realisation that it is all a big waste in both time and money. $300 there, $500 here, all for a few more metres.

I now game one driver, have one backup, and a "tinker" driver that I test with different shafts. Rather than buying drivers, I recently started investing in professional lessons which is a better investment IMO.

The funny thing is, I know many people that are driver ho's, but they never change or test new irons. I've found that the right irons can lower your score more than the right driver.

Now, if only I learn to putt decently...

best we don't discuss irons.

No one driver has really stood out from the pack, I do recall a Ping G5 with Diamana in my past that gave me wood for a while, but that was maybe years ago.

;)

I don't think I've really lost that much in my pursuit (whatever my pursuit is) and point taken Blakey :)

OK, back to ebay we go !!!!

LarryLong

Looks to me like you're too hung up on the major brands (resale driven?). If you're going to try a different driver every second time you play golf, why not go for some whacky ideas and see what all the other companies have to offer?

Adams, Wilson, maybe even try a few of those crazy component manufacturers?

I figure if I was in your shoes, with your addiction, I'd set myself a goal of playing every driver on the market in a calendar year. :)

:lol::lol: - the only club you will ever need.... How about "The Perfect Club", that was doing the rounds a while back...

Pete,

What's in the Bag at present with all those going by the wayside ?

Have you tried any Callaway stuff, or even some cool Japanese driver porn ? The Callaway sound awful and also look awful, but performance wise they are pretty damn good. Sort of like the ugly girlfriend who speaks in a high pitch whine, but when you need her, she can suck a golf ball through a garden hose.

FTiz tour in 9.5 in something 70-75gr might be worth a shot, very easy to onsell afterwards too. The iMix is not being continued, so dont spend the extra on it - Cally say it was too expensive.

They are friggin horrible to work on and change shafts... so find one you like assembled.

3oneday
6th August 2010, 09:51 PM
Thanks Virge I'll take a look. I didn't really like the FT Tour but did like the look of the FT iz. I'm pleased to hear the iMix is being scrapped, shafts over here were $200+ each, who's gunna keep supporting that ?

This weekend I have the Cobra 8.5 with Graf blue reg. i15 arriving some stage next week, as are the 909 and Dymo.

Always been a Nike driver fan and really only hit the STR8 square this year, so might visit the Dymo first up I think.

FT Tour is probably low launching, one reason why you'd like it I guess ? I real players club, another reason ? ;)

Explains why you liked that Ping. The Nike and Ping are almost the same club - or if I say it better - they both suit the same kind of swing. Your not going to like the Cobra, though the 8.5 might make it usable. Out of all of them... that 909 is going to be the longest club you hit... but it is also going to be the most wayward. The Titties always feel the best and go the longest - but they just kill you on the forgivness front.

You have such a good move on the transition, I reckon shaft weight is going to be important, you may want to raise it up a touch

It's not so much that I like the FT Tour's low launch as the holy grail or some such (it was like any other driver of spec), but more that I didn't like the FT iz's high launch/spin.

Althought how low I've been hitting the ball since my recent comeback, I might need to reassess my low loft, low launch, low spin preferences.

Like my dad, even though it was the smoking killed him, he was still puffing on the pipe up until the last day, he only had a month or so off the smoking when the radium stuffed his senses up.

Some people just cant give up.

31d, maybe you should try something drastic, like give all your money to your wife, and then you need a purchase authority to buy a packet of tees?

ok, maybe not the best idea. How about you give your wife some of your money, but tell her its all of it. With whats left make a bet with Jono, that neither of you will buy any golf clubs for a year.
