04/08/10, Kurri Kurri GC, Social.

1 birdie.
4 pars.
8 bogeys.
5 others (incl first 3 holes).

Score (B9 1st) 44-45-89 nett 77 (Par 36-36-72 ACR 71)

More of the inconsistent golf that I've been playing of late. It took a few holes to adjust to the green speed, so without this the score may have been more respectable. That said, conditons weren't the easiest with a soft course (from several days rain) and a bit of wind. My short game is quite ordinary at the moment. I'm looking forward to playing on a regular basis come September, although a couple of bad rounds might get me out to 14 (from 12).

Next round: This Sunday at The Springs. Hopefully a few of the NSW crew turn up.

3rd handicap card @ Glenmore Heritage today.

89, which was a marked improvement from 2 weeks ago, but still a few shots below my best. Hit a lot of greens in regulation today (about 10/18 I think), but some uncertainty and lack of confidence with some tricky uphill putts cost me shots. A few birdie putts either lipped out or stopped agonisingly short of the hole, so all in all I was reasonably satisfied with my work on the greens.

So I should get my club handicap in time for the comp next Thursday (which I'm guessing will be about 20 or 21), then 2 comp rounds until I have my AGU handicap. :)

A tale of two nines at Hartfield today.

6 Fairways
4 GIR
17 putts
Yields a 25 point front nine.

0 FIR couple of effective though'
0 GIR
18 putt
Yields a 13 point back nine :(

Still played quite well, just three bad shots lead to 3 wipes on the back nine, new putter is good. Driver is back. Good times.

Today was the first round of the 54 hole City of Cairns stroke event.

I played early with Tomson and two random slow-arsed choppers. My wrist didn't bother me at all, but I think it was playing on my mind a bit. I was terrible off the tee, terrible out of the trees (didn't get near a fairway), and terrible on & around the greens. I did par the last 3 holes though.

Pressure's off now, so I'll go out & do it all over again tomorrow.

Tomson has been struggling to with the Superdeep, but I think he worked it out on the 9th today.. I thought I'd smoked one out there (measured at 272m), but he BOMBed his  (see pic below).

This pic shows the approach shot (only 50m out) that follows. The hole is around 350m in length.

Did he make birdie ?

So were the shots into the trees off the tee or resulting from shanks ?

Its a new green and its starting to come along nicely. I think walking on the line was what turned me off them. That is very rude in my books more then slow play.

Round 2 of the City of Cairns this morning. The company was better than yesterday, but the wind was ferocious!

I hit the ball much better for the most part, but a couple of loose shots cost me in a big way.

Nabbed my second ever eagle on the second last hole on a day when i was just bumbling along after blowing some good early work. Gross 3 for a 5 pointer followed by a 3 pointer on 18 turned an average round into a good one . Driver - 3 wood - 85 meter punch PW and neither of us saw it go in.

32 points.

11 for the front, 21 on the back.
Wiped 7, 8 and 9 - on 8 hit a tree with a full blooded 4 wood and rebounded back about 60 metres. That sucked.

Then had a one pointer on 18 to lose the overall match by a point.

Great day though - tee off in minus 2, and its about 14 and sunny and perfect now.

Great pics, wb. I hate frost, dew and early mornings, so I avoided any chance of any of them by teeing off at 11.15 at Camden Lakeside in perfect conditions.

After four holes I had three-putted two of them and wanted to go home, and then missed another 3 footer on 7, and a five footer on 8 to be 3 down. From the 10th tee I played fantastic for the next eight holes, to be 2 under for that stretch, and two up, with a shot at the last. A ball in water off the tee, then an horrific three putts for a wipe, and a devastating 36 points that could have been so much better.

I don't know whether to be really encouraged by great ball-striking, or worried that the bubble might burst without recording the really good score I should have got.

Mat isn't known for his fashion sense. You get used to the pants after 18 holes.....
We wondered what the blokes pointing and laughing were referring to when we walked off 18 - I was immune to his look by then.

My footy ends in a couple of weeks time, if any of the Sydney boys want to come down for a day trip I'll happily host you.

08/08/10, The Springs G&CC, Social OZgolf Round.

1 birdie.
6 pars.
8 bogeys.
3 others.

Score stab 16-18-34pts (Par 36-36-72 ACR 72)

A bit late with this, but I left the scorecard behind when I went home. It was a better game than the game at Kurri, with the driving improving and the short game showing some signs of coming back. A wet ball with the first shot of the day and a nasty wipe on the 17th blemished an otherwise solid round of golf. It was encouraging for future rounds anyway.

Next round: Tomorrow at Muree GC, NSW.
