How do you measure success ?

Who would be the person to do this ?

At what stage of your game would this be done ?

What criteria would you use for comparison to others ?

I would have thought that the new handicapping system would be as good of a gauge as anything since it is so reflective of form.

Or are you talking about measuring progress?

Amateur or Professional, interesting to read/experience peoples opinions on the matter.

How do you measure success ?
The way you're seen to have played the sport. eg Integrity, sportsmanship, honesty.

You're saying that scores have nothing to do with success?

Scores are only relevant in non-handicapped open events.

So far we have some objective (using data) and subjective (using individual/personal opinion's) criteria.

All opinions are subjective anyway.

Actually getting on the golf course is an achievement for me these days. What happens afterwards is largely irrelevant.

Mike makes some good points. I don't worry too much about 'success' - I figure unless you're on the tour you should be playing for enjoyment. I really only measure myself against what I know (or perhaps think) I am capable of, and lately I'm coming up short.

I try not to compare myself to others though - it's just not fair on them. :)

This thread seems like a weird one to me. 'Success' is not a word I relate to my golf or most amateurs at all.

In part it came out of the Geoff Ogilvy thread.

Critique of a player seemed based around an article about Geoff pre his major wins and other improvements and successes and I actually posted this threads details on the Geoff under achiever thread (http://www.ozgolf.net/showthread.php/19296-Geoff-Ogilvy-Career-Underachiever?p=502848).

I've asked the questions based around how do you measure success/talent/achievements/outcomes etc!

So HappyP what I looked as unusual and measured inconsistently/unfairly/unqualified you've looked at it as being weird.

I put it out for discussion.

How do you measure success ? Achieving a goal.

Who would be the person to do this ? The goal setter.

At what stage of your game would this be done ? When it is decided to commit to a goal.

What criteria would you use for comparison to others ? Whatever is appropriate.
