we were telling him all the way down the 13th to pick up and taking the p1ss out of him as he went along for all the divots he was taking, it was at this point he said his shoulder was hurting as it was an old injury. he's another one of these blokes that have been there done that and don't want to hear it from anyone else.

Greens will play truer early on as with the Hartfield greens I've noticed on the days of big events, traffic tends to have some effect around the holes as the day goes on. Greens are very firm with little grass on them atm being peak winter.

Definitely think Veefore should marshall the 'tiger' group with some interest :)

Well I'm not sure what group I'm in yet TF, but it def. doesn't have anything to do with "Tiger" if he's gonna be around, lets be straight to the point: I've played with all sorts of characters over the years and that's never phased me at all...

Just having been a past pennant finalist (twice) over east and not gotten over the line each time.... was devastating and have learn't lots from what transpired. This is no different with numerous big calendar events where the occasion has simply gotten the better of me before.

Confidence, calmness and focus is what makes all the negative stuff go away.

ATM, there are some bunkers that you can almost putt out of - not that I've attempted this yet but there about 3 bunkers that one of our Div. 2 pennant players regularly putts out of to get up & down more easily.

As for fleecing the imports I see SE's point here. It's getting harder to play the odd Saturday (as a 6-day member paying the bigger green fee), but more members could mean that price hikes become better absorbed. Two interesting approaches the club can weigh up.

When they first rebuilt the 4th green I used to putt out of the right side bunkers when the flag was close. It was the only way to get it near the hole. As the lip grew though I had to go back to the wedge.

I played with a new member yesterday who joined before playing the course. He HATES it. It is just too tough for him. The fairways are too narrow and the greens are too fast. When his membership ends he is thinking of going back to Lakelands. Every time he got into a bunker he wanted to just pick up and not even try to get out. When he got into the left bunker on 12 I talked him into putting out of it. I told him to hit it HARD but the first two times he babied it and it didn't even make it 1m up the face. The third time he hit it like I told him and put it to 2ft.

Yes. Basically I drive around and watch people play golf. Occasionally I stop for a chat when I see someone that I know. Then I go for a drive again. I also get to put a drink or sometimes two on the Captains account so depending on how many I have before I start marshalling it can be an interesting drive. Thank goodness there are no RBT's on the golf course.

It's not the first time someone has putted off 3 and it certainly won't be the last. That green has a false front, false back left and a false back right. The actual useable size of that green is about 2/3rds of the bent-grass area.

Have to agree, I am almost resigned to sticking my second to a SW distance and hoping to knock the wedge close for a chance at par. Or playing for the front right and get the chip or putt close enough for a shot at par. Yeah I know that is hand bag golf but 3 can turn into a double or triple real fast

Yep I hear you OMS, 3rd is a very tricky bugger to hold at the best of times.

I struggle also with the 4th and 14th, especially if they are playing longer than usual. But I tend to have the most trouble of all staying on the 10th green.

Even though I quite often take 8i-PW, its amazing: Just a slight tadd of draw that I play, always makes it catch the slope and run off left. It happens even when I hit the middle of the green :shock:.

Last saturday the pin on 11 was ON the tier at the back. Not at the top, not at the bottom but halfway up it. Ever since the Captain gave the greens staff the sheet with "suggested" areas for the holes we have been getting some absolutely "pennant fundraiser" type holes.

Oh an the third hole. The first time I played with JC he hit lob wedge from 100m and couldn't hold the green.

Tiger Hamilton came out and played 9 the other day. The greens were very soft. He's convinced he'll play good golf on Sunday by chipping aggressively. I told him they'd be much firmer and quicker, but i don't think he believed me. We may see an airborne putter or wedge.
