What are the benfits/disadvantages?

I'm looking at a set of Maltby MPC or TE heads. MPC's have progressive offset, TE have a standard .100" on all heads.

I don't know if being off 10 makes any difference either way.

With your hooking tendency, the ball will be going backwards by the time it lands.

I tried offset irons once and spent the day hitting every left.

My Ping Eye 2s are about as offset as you get. I hook them when I'm an idiot, but not because they're offset, merely because I address them wrong. I'm so accustomed to lining up with a straight line from toe to hosel that I sometimes subconsciously set up with the face closed without noticing. Think about it, if the face is square at impact (albeit 5mm further back due to offset) the ball is still going to go straight providing your swing is on plane. And clearly offset has nothing to do with swing plane, so why should they hook?

So to summerise: Yes, they hook. No, it's not the clubs it's you.

Should get a lower ball flight with off-set irons.

i wouldn't think you want offset Mega, you hook like a King's Cross Veteran at the best of times - except when you go and have a shank that is.

Just got this off Maltby's site - fairly much as you would know.

Progressive Offset
Iron head design feature in which longer irons have more offset and shorter irons have less. The offset progresses in somewhat uniform increments through the set. More offset is featured in long irons as offset tends to reduce slicing, promote hitting down and through the ball and also helps to get the ball more easily airborne, qualities that help most players hit the ball straighter and more solid.
