Is it wrong to buy a 2nd set of decent (used not new) clubs knowing that you will probably use them once in a blue moon? :smt087

I have pretty much at least three of everything at any particular time. It helps with everything except the lowering of scores. (It's particularly good for emptying wallets and maxing out credit cards.)

Just do it.

Haysey even has a set of Junior Golf Crubs as an alternative! (Along with his other 3 sets)

I did it, the set is now at Henno's place for about half what I paid, and I never hit a ball with them.

So in conclusion, it's not wrong, but it's not smart either!

Only if they once belonged to John F Kennedy

I'm about to set myself up with a 2nd set, therefore I can see no reason why you shouldn't. ;)

Unless your second set are the exact same specs as your gamers I can't see the point.

You sound like the sort of guy that has a cupboard full of the same size beige pants. Why would you buy anything different to existing pairs when you know these ones fit and are functional?

mike
21st June 2010, 11:01 PM
All my pants are the same size because I'm one size and only one pair is beige.

Chopping and changing irons is counter-productive IMO. You're handicap is a prime example.

Chopping and changing irons is fun for some. Being a boring beige pants wearing fuddy-duddy who wears his handicap like a badge of honour is not.

Oh please.

Not wrong, but, unless you are hitting a couple of hundred balls a day and playing at least one or two rounds a week, why bother as you will not wear out your gamers before the ho in you demands you replace them with the next shiny set

Keep a 2nd set for when a mate comes over that doesn't play often, then they don't **** your good set up ;)

Tongueboy
22nd June 2010, 08:08 AM
you got mates? i haven't.

3oneday

Wacker, go for two sets of bench warmers, of different makes. Best way I know to find out what really works for you. It also gives you a choice under different weather conditions - the combinations of head and shaft give different trajectories.

I have three sets of irons that make it into the bag depending on the conditions. Callys for windy days (stronger lofts), missies for calm days (higer trajectory) and daiwa for wet days (cord grips). My wedges include a 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, & 60 which get sellected depending on which set of irons are in play. My woods and rescue never change.

As for the putter....we won't go there.;)

I couldn't care less if people have 6 sets, I have enough trouble using the one set I own.

unless you cupboard is full there is no excuse to have fewer than 2 of anything.

Yep, you need 3 of everything as a bare minimum:smt023

Thanks all. Im convinced on getting a 2nd set for sure. =)

I've been thinking of getting a cheaper set even if it is my gamer. I hit so many balls with my Srixon I 506's that they are really starting to wear.

I've got a second and third set in the garage that are great clubs, but I don't move away from my gamers. I haven't hit either set since I got my most recent set. I want to be as familiar with the set as I can be.

A spare driver, putter or wedge on the other hand....

Bushka
22nd June 2010, 11:25 AM
mmm..maybe i should pick up a second set of I 506's then...they are not exactly the most expensive clubs out there, plenty forgiving though. Thats an even better idea J.C

Johnny Canuck
22nd June 2010, 11:30 AM
that would be the smartest idea. i wouldn't argue with that. why practice with something totally different than your gamers?

I just bought a second set, but i have convinced myself there is some degree of logic to it.

Been using titleist 695cbs for a while, and am now only swing a club on sats.... so dont get them all out of the middle, so i bought a larger more forgiving set of irons to use untill i decide to start practicing more....

LOL if a mate wants to play golf i aint supporting him, he can hire from the proshop at the course or buy his own set :)

why practice with something totally different than your gamers? That's exactly the point I was trying to make.

Never sell. That's a good motto. I keep old sets around for when a mate wants to have a hit.

LarryLong
23rd June 2010, 10:52 PM
I keep my old set too, in a bag with about 10 balls that are all ladies balls. I always give that to any visiting mates.

I'm under lots of pressure to sell from the minister for junk room cupboard re-organisation though.

Hamo84
23rd June 2010, 11:07 PM
yeah, do it!!! i used to keep all my spare clubs... till i found ebay and sold most of them...

I always have a set of clubs for a mate, or for traveling and rough courses.

IanO

I have a set of Brosnan "Black Magic" in the roof that I keep for when a mate wants to play. There is no way I could sell them as no one would buy them and I don't care if they knock them around.

I did just sell my old Ping ISI Nickels though. Had to make room for the 735.cm set I am just buying

Courty
24th June 2010, 05:38 PM
I may just end up with 3 sets.
