They are a great putter. I have a MacGregor 24k gold plated Jack Nicklaus VIP that is the same style only a little thicker face to back. The gold place was in really poor condition and flaking off when I got it so I removed the rest of if from the head and most of the shaft. They are the greatest feeling putter but totally unforgiving.

I tried out a couple of different ones and found that they all felt pretty good to me.
I have since bought a new replica head and put a shaft and grip on it (thanks Kari) and have dropped 4 putts a round off my average. It seems that the older style blade suits my putting stroke better than the face balanced putters I have been using to date.
I also just bought a Cleveland Classic "by Design" which looks and feels very similar. It has a bit of bag chatter and I am about to send it to Kari for some pimping

I have a macgregor vip putter that looks similar to the 8802 still has the original leather grip. Veefore is correct they are very unforgiving.

I have rested the 8862 until I play regularly once more. Too unforgiving.

I have one of those right handed that I used to plan never to get rid of, but would probably be prepared to part with.

where are you located?

Why on earth would anybody wish to putt with a 8802 with the smorgish board of putters that are now available to golfers.

I love blade putters and have a few in the collection, including a few Wilsons. I wouldn't take one onto the course (bee's dick sweetspots) but I use them in practice to hone the stroke. The 1960's 8802 with the Head Speed shaftband is supposed to be the sweetest feeling of all the 8802 versions (they go for $US150 - $300 depending on condition). If you've got serious cash to burn you can go for the pre-8802 "Designed by Arnold Palmer" model (I've only tried a remake though).

If I was looking to play a blade I'd go for a Bettinardi BC7, a Spalding TPM 7 or a Ping G2 Tess - all have more central weighting (as opposed to a heel bias) and a bigger sweetspot.

My 8802 does feel pretty sweet though.

Has anyone seen one of the George Low Wizard putters that the 8802 is a copy of? There weren't a lot of them made and they were supposed to have been made from recycled WW2 aircraft materials melted down if I remember rightly.

Now there is a putter with a price tag that would make Scotty Cameron's blush.

Genuine collectables the Geo Low Wizards - they go for HEAPS. Nicklaus made the model famous with all his early wins.

I've got a remake, nice putter:

Your all mad . . . it is a stupid putter.

You guys need a Oddy #9. It is the closest you want to get.

PS: I have a Harvey Pennick version . . . stupid putter.

I am with Virge on this one, my white hot tour #9 has a lot of that classic look but rolls it ridiculously well and is also very forgiving (considering i blow)

Exactly - perfect for loungeroom carpets as far as I am concerned. never on a golf course.

Unless you can ACTUALLY putt !!!!

Not at all - otherwise we may as well be using 160cc drivers...

Why make the game harder ?

Welchman Rhys Davies putts amazingly well with a Ping proto type in the 8802 style. Everytime I see him on the screen he seems to be holing putts or lipping out. There are many old guys who learnt the game with 8802/8813 models that won't putt with anything else. The Wilson 8813 Australian model (late 1960's) was a very light stainless steel putter that gave tremendous feel of the putterface on the ball. Much more so than the 8802 models which were carbon steel and heavier.

The new Adams A7 putters seem amazingly light too...they have a head style in 8802/13 and it is only 305g !!!

There is an opinion that the stainless steel used in the Australian/European 8813 models was recycled from scrap kitchen utensils, knives and forks etc., hence they were never able to duplicate that particular batch.

I am with Virge on this one, my white hot hunk of man has a lot of that classic look but rolls it ridiculously well down my throat and is also very forgiving (considering i blow the meat popsicle all night long)

Fixed.

Cheers mate. If you get a chance, can you post a pic of your Lajosi?

It isn't a Lajosi, he just helped me put my putter together.

believe it or not but my game has improved after switching putters. I now use the putter in my sig and I'm averaging 31 putts per round. I was hella crap using a mid mallets and mallets . I guess I love a challenge it's what I'm used to. After getting my swing corrected and putting stroke smoother my blades and napa will stay in the bag. I can't afford to buy or trade for another set of clubs. I've gone full circle. Started the game 17yrs ago with blades and napas. Since coming back to the game I'm gaming better results.

I picked one of these up today (the 8813), and was quite surprised to discover how good the feel was. Granted it was putting on the lunge room carpet, but I'm keen to give it a go on a practice green somewhere in the next week or 2.

i picked up one of these putters at the local market few weeks back for $5- had no idea what it was at the time.
been using at the local courses putting green, real nice feel, seem to over putt with it.
if i were to sell, is there still any interests on these forums?

Someone would probably be interested but the problem for you now is that no one will pay more than $5 for it because you told us how much you paid for it! ;)
