View Full Version : Wanted: Fake Titleist AP2

I have bought 5 sets of these over the last 3 weeks.

And of those 5 sets - 4 have been fake... rather frustrating as all the photos are really good.

I just received a set of 710 AP2 and they are sensational copies . . . and I mean SENSATIONAL. If it wasn't for the dodgy projectX stickers and the rather simplistic "710" on the hosel it would be a easy pass-on . . .

Oh well - Henno... sell me yours...

5 Sets? What will you do with them Virge?

I took you for a learned buyer of clubs Virge. I guess it shows even those who know clubs can be undone by the counterfeiter.

I just sent a set back, for a refund. Plenty of them on Oz ebay.. #@$%er's
Did you get any money back?

I bought a fake Scotty off Mega Watty a bit over a year ago for the sole purpose of comparing it to a real one that I had. It's incredible how they can get them looking so similar in terms of design. I think its the cheap materials that give the fakes away, but there would be MANY people that would never think twice about the authenticity of the clubs they are using.

I gave the fakey to my brother after I was done with it, had a roll with it a couple of weeks ago and it didn't perform any differently :)

I just learned not 15 minutes ago that I may need surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder, so strangely enough they're probably on the market (or in the cupboard for a while).

Henno I had mine done 7 weeks ago. In the sling for 6 weeks, still a couple of weeks away from being able to start strength work.

I purposly bought a set of Mizuno MP 68's to compare to the ridgy ones i bought.....can't tell the difference xcept for the pungent smell of the grips.
Have hit both on the range and found that the fakes drop about 4 metres shorter that the real ones.
To be honest i don't know which set is in the spare bag????

Thankfully haven't yet bought any fakes, and I have not seen any in the flesh to compare. I have read that most fake irons are actually cast, not forged, not sure how true that is though?. Some claim the counterfeiters "steal" the actual moulds from the OEMs, but if they are cast that hardly holds water for the forged clubs that they counterfeit.

I had a counterfeit Cleveland DSG wedge. I loved it, but the grip lasted about 12 months before it was screwed. Never had a club I chipped in with as often before or again!

Same here - but the newer fakes are very very good... you can pick them when they finally are your hands - but the photos are usually quite good. For the record - you need a closeup of the "710", on the fakes, the 710 is not a clean cut

Remind me to scrub Virge off my "safe to purchase from" list

But right now I have some very cheap AP2's for sale....

Good man - PM me.

all from the same seller?

A whole bunch of them . . . seriously, just blew me away how many of them a fake...

Any time they want to actually come to the party and offer some kind of service or advantage to me purchasing in Australia, I will be the first one there... But when I can buy and land a set of clubs from a Titleist USA distributor for less than AU$1000 and they insist on $185 per iron... they ain't going to happen. If you want to make a 40% markup - you have to provide a service.

Indeed. Aussie stores and club pros take the piss on price, so f**k them.

I realise they might not have as great buying power, but Jesus, they could buy off eBay like Virge, whack on $200 for their troubles and still be significantly cheaper.

You may well find that the big companies are part of the problem.
Unless it has changed lately the major brands have 2 PRICE BOOKS
One is for continental US authorised resellers etc and the SECOND is for EXPORT

Notice any US owned outlets here any more ... they were stopped to keep the prices inflated and to stop them importing the cheaper US purchased product

So I doubt the margins you imagine really happen ... there has to be some but I feel certain the 'level playing field' has a few elephants buried in it

Still money in the pocket is better than none

I would baulk at any AP2 710 under $700USD, it's just not realistic but it's an expectation that ebay gives sadly. One reason I guess fakes prosper.

Agreed - but when you pay $850 AU for a set of AP2, you woudl hope that they are the real deal... buyer beware I guess and PayPAL covers me if they are fake.

Didn't expect them to be such good quality though !!

Well, if they are from the same set I would say they are fake, purely because of what is above the ferrule on the shaft. Last I checked Titleist don't have labels or stickers on every club.

However, you don't make a decision based on a picture, I can steal a picture from anywhere. In fact, I would suggest the picture is the LAST thing you look at when deciding to buy from someone overseas.

Different Seller - different state, he is in North Ryde.

I'll give you a legup:

75 feedback at 100%, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Titleist-AP2-Forged-Iron-Set-2010-model-/320542456611?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Sport_Golf_Equipment&hash=item4aa1d1bb23#ht_503wt_979

Fake, never sold a damned thing and now has AP2 ? Not likely and starting at $600.

0 feedback selling 2nd hand, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Titleist-Ap2-710-/230482302854?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Sport_Golf_Equipment&hash=item35a9d0d786#ht_500wt_994

Too low, why start a $1000 set of clubs at $490 ? even if they are 2nd hand. It means either the seller doesn't care what he gets, they are fake or tehy are fake.

0 feedback, claims he doesn't know how to use them ? FFS and they are at $500 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Titleist-AP2-Golf-Set-Black-model-/180515170745?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Sport_Golf_Equipment&hash=item2a078ae9b9#ht_500wt_994

Either fake or stolen.

I have 2 clubs left for sale on Aussie ebay and I haven't ordered stuff for 2 weeks, it's simply a waste of time buying or selling new product in Australia.

Wonder if Parlyboys AP2 were the real deal or not?

Not a bad call since I nearly hit the BUY IT NOW button on fakies on ebay a few times.
I assume they are real since they come from a OneAsia Tour player, unless Titliest give him fakes.
