odometer problem

The odometer on mums car just stopped working the other day. We have heard from some people that it is illegal to drive around with a broken odometer and others say the opposite.

I can't find anything much on the internet about it so I was wondering if anyone knows anything.

Not illegal Zac. Not that big a deal to get it fixed either. What sort of car is it?

A van. Yeh I know that its not a problem and has no effect on the car and don't want or need to get it fixed, just wondering if its illegal as a few people have said that it is. Thanks Mike.
