Aussies absolutely killing it in opening round. 5 of top 10 are ours & 3 more tied at 11th. Mind you it is a condensed leaderboard this early in the tourney.

Great to see big Jarrod Lyle putting in some consistent performances of late. I followed him around NSWGC in the summer and he was one of the most personable guys out there for sure.

Also good to see Elks sharing the lead with a few. Really enjoying his website 'Dirters' at the moment.

Joe Durant had two eagles today & is currently sharing the clubhouse lead with Jason Day... pretty eventful scorecard between 7 thru 11.

Aussies are playing some inspired golf on tour at the moment, good to see.
It would be great to see Day rack up his first win. There are four Aussies in the top 16 with Day on top.

Jasson Day went to school at Hills International Golf School at Jimboomba, and when he was in Grade 12, one of the teachers/pros, quit the school and decided to go on tour with him as his caddy. Does anyone know if he is still caddying for him. His name was Col Swatton.

The commentators at one stage did refer to Day's caddy as his "caddy & coach".

Hopefully he inspires more kids to quit school and follow their dreams.

Well done Day, great to see the young bloke break through.
Out of curiosity I checked shot tracker, day hit it into the piss on the 18th in rounds 1, 2, & 4

Good to see him breakthrough for a win after a couple of near misses. Back in something like 2004 he looked like he might have had the goods when he crushed the field in the Aust Junior championship at Yowani.

He hit iron off the tee to take the water out of play, he then hit that iron shot fat and had over 200 yds for his second shot which he pulled into the piss.

Great win to the young fella. Was lucky enough to have a round with him down at THe Hills a few years back as i had a few friends that were members there. Could tell then he was going to go somewhere with his golf. Congrats mate.

Day was lucky to have a relatively less experienced player in second place. If it had been a top ten player it may have ended differently. Notwithstanding a win is a win. His 16th and 17th were key holes. That 3-wood on 16 was impressive.

Ah well, at least they didn't mention the 16 year old American kid. pgatour dot com reported more on Speith than Day in their first update after the tournament ended... they were probably trying to figure out who the f#$% Jason Day was!

Awesome stuff. I actually predicted a little while back that Day would make his first PGA Tour win this year. If I only I could predict NRL winners that well.

That 18th hole was hilarious.
.

Wasn't it - everybody just choked, and then choked some more . . . and when you thought it was almost finished, some more choking.

And I was over the Speith thing very quickly, every sentence was "16 year old" this and "16 year old that", Sensational effort from the young bloke, but FFS, he grew up on the course and knew every blade of grass on the course.

Still sensational effort...

Yep, despite his dramas, he putting was solid as and got him out of trouble more than once. His recovery shots were mostly pretty special as well. His biggest problem seems to be not being able to throttle back and hit a safety shot safely! plus he has got to get that Driver back on track!.

It was interesting to hear Blake Adams say afterwards that even though he didn't realise Day was in the drink he would have still played the same second shot on 18 out of the trees instead of chipping out then trying to get up and down to make par from less than 100m (my guess as to distance, I only saw a quick replay of the hole). This seems like BS or a silly approach given the scenario... after all, Day made bogey but only by sinking a 15 footer with zero pressure after Adams put himself out of contention.

Thoughts?
