It seems a waste to take my golf clubs to Brisbane and only play one round:mrgreen:.

So I'm chasing a round somewhere Wednesday morning before I start driving home.

Keperra 7.30am

Redcliffe has it's back tee event on the 1'st Wednesday of the month.

Just looking in the SE QLD open days thread. Would they still be current?

Looks like Nudgee, Redcliffe (thanks Ferrins) Keperra or Bribie might be the go.

Pacific has a Wednesday comp as well.

AndyP
21st April 2010, 10:50 AM
Are you playing, henno?

henno
21st April 2010, 10:52 AM
Not as yet, but if there's an early morning or late afternoon game on somewhere in east or north Brisbane I might be able to wangle something.

AndyP
21st April 2010, 10:55 AM
How early is early? Probably not 8am, which is the earliest I could get there after taking the missus to work.

I could do this one instead of the Tuesday Virginia game, and potentially play Tex in matchplay.

henno
21st April 2010, 10:57 AM
I could always take the day off, I suppose. I'll chew it over with the boss and let you know.

If you blokes play early I will be keen as well.

I'm happy to do anytime that suits between 6 and 10am. There's no place else I'd rather be:wink:

Tuesday's a token golf day, but if they play with you on a Wednesday then you know you're popular.

Its nice to hang with the cool kids occasionally. You have no idea what Tomson and Courty are doing to my street cred:razz:

If you guys are keen on the early time, don't worry about me. I'll play the Tuesday round, especially now that I'm not a 5th player, and there are currently 5 players showing interest here.

Cool, Eags / Henno is there a time that suits you guys? And are we still talking about Pacific?

Anytime between 7:00-8:30 will suit me, I have to be at work by 2pm.

8:30 is probably best so that AndeePee can play as well. I'll know if I can get the day off when I ask tomorrow.

As I said, don't worry about me. I'll play only one of the Tuesday or Wednesday games, and was trying to avoid a 5 person affair.

I was the 5th person putting my hand up so I will sit out. There's now 6 in the Virginia game, including myself, at a time that suits me. I'm happy to stand down from this game, so you can grab an earlier time.

My leave has been approved, so where are we playing? Redcliffe? Pacific? Spots have now filled up at pacific pretty quick, so it looks like there are only times at midday or so now. Might be a deal breaker for a few.

Eag's
27th April 2010, 10:19 AM
You can always get on at Redcliffe. It depends on what time haysey can be there. Same deal for me, as long as we hit off between 6:30 - 8:30 I will be sweet.

Good stuff Henno, although afternoon at Pacific would be a drama. If not Pacific in the AM can we play Redcliffe?

haysey
27th April 2010, 10:20 AM
I'm good for any time as long as its morning.

henno
27th April 2010, 10:33 AM
Pacific is out then. I'll play anywhere at any time as I have the whole day off. Redcliffe would be nice.

Alright, done. I'll have a crack at organising this myself.

Henno, Eag's and Perci (If you can) Want to PM your details to me and I'll see if I can do the bookings? I'll see what I can do between 7 - 8am.

It's all good haysey I will give them a call.

Just got off the phone, they have no spots until after 10am.
I can't make that time, but if you like I can call back and book you three in?

Eag's
27th April 2010, 11:32 AM
Ok guys, I booked a group of 4 at 9:54am. I can't make that time so there will be a spare spot for anyone who is keen.
Let me know if this does not suit and I will cancel the spot.

Sorry to be painful:oops: but I'd prefer earlier if possible. What would the chances be at Nudgee or Keperra?

How much are the thieves at Keperra robbing from us to play there?

Eag's
27th April 2010, 02:31 PM
I think it will be $35 which is not great value. If you played at Nudgee you would be slugged $30.

henno

$25 is good going. Beats 30 clams at Nudgee any day. Plus it's nice and close after my usual Wednesday appointment at the meth clinic.

Keperra should be near its best with the Bowl in a couple of weeks. The fairways will be between 25 - 30 metres wide with 50mm thick green couch rough bordering the fairways and greens. The greens will also be faster than normal, not as fast as Nudgee but fast for Keperra. Should be a good day if you get to play the Old Course or the North Course..;)

haysey
27th April 2010, 08:12 PM
I've got a feeling that I may struggle with green speed given the crap we have to putt on at the moment. Can't wait:D

henno
27th April 2010, 08:20 PM
Nudgee fast? I was there two days ago and they were far from slick.

razaar
27th April 2010, 08:50 PM
Will be part of the team rating Nudgee North course on Thursday so will be able to do a stimp reading.

henno
27th April 2010, 08:54 PM
Whatever it is, I like them even quicker. And without the disease (that shazza so kindly pointed out on Sunday).
Although I can't talk. Pacific's greens are shit at the moment. Too long, too slow, too bumpy, too grainy, pretty shit all 'round.

That's what happens when they are oversown year after year. There should be no need to oversow in our climate if the grounds staff know their stuff.

I agree, and they have finally decided to not oversow this year. I have no idea why they are cutting them so long though. I think they are deathly afraid of losing them during winter due to some unfounded fear since dumping the idea of a winter oversow.

Of course I'm clearly a groundskeeping expert.

Greens usually have a life span of 25 years. That is about the time they start to experience drainage issues with changes in the substructure from ground movement to compaction. Oversowing puts grass on the greens as the bermuda goes dormant when it gets cold. The problem is that it is sown in autumn when the bermuda is still growing and ends up competing with the bermuda. Consequently the bermuda at this time gets less dense. Over several years of oversowing the bermuda will adapt accordingly as if it is being trained to accept another grass. Greenkeepers love to oversow once they get the seed quantities right. All they have to do from then on is to mow and water. If there are any fungi/disease in the green the weed (poa trivialis is a weed) oversow will mask it, which in itself is not a good thing. Blacklayer, algae etc are more likely to lurk in an oversown green because the surface of the green is usually very moist.

I guess the ones they are doing up at Reddy are overdue then, considering they were made in 1927.

Just toying with the idea of staying another day and having a bash at Brookwater8) on Thursday

Looking at Google maps tells me its 45 minutes on the Gateway motorway from where I'm staying in Nundah. The question is, is that fair enough for a 7-7.30 tee time? or would I need to allow longer to cater for traffic?

PeteyD
30th April 2010, 11:24 AM
longer, maybe 30 mins to be sure. It doesn;t take much to stuff the gateway, although it is usually going north that has issues at that time of day.

If leaving at 6am, allow 10-15 mins extra for travelling towards the city. Once past there no dramas.

Henno - 5 balls should be the equivalent of $22.50 in pro shop credit - surely you'd get a couple of decent ones for that - shame you and Haysey draw the West course, you missed 10 -18 - that's the pick of the 9's
