I received a couple of shafts today from 2puttgolf. He has stuck a sticker on them indicating that "|" should be facing the target.

Will there be any noticeable effect if it faces away from the target ? What will different positions do to the ball flight ?

The theory is that the shaft will flex in the plane of least resistance. So it aids somewhat in keeping it online, as if the shafts wants to twist to that point. As to advantage or not, who really knows.

Pretty sure there are threads galore on this. Is a forged spine softer?

Buttery soft, like prisms.

Tom,

Do you remember where the spin was on the PX ?????? :)

These Enzo shafts look very very bright ! Brighter than the Srixon yella ! Might have to use a Srixon Satdy so my gear is matching

I am pretty sure the NBT was with the logo facing up.

I'm sure you and courty would go great together with the bright colours. :)

Some manufacturers put the 'line' on the shaft to indicate NBP, and then paint the logo to that line, which means logo to side & NBP to target...and others paint the logo at 90* to that line, which means logo up/down & NBP to target...and some mark the spine with the line and then paint the logo to that, which means logo to side & NBP up/down OR logo up/down & NBP to target...and

It says this shaft has a PTS of 4". Does this mean the tip of the shaft is 4" long ?

I have a spine finder. Not that brand but very similar. Works pretty well IMHO.

Curious to all those that are spine aligning clubs as to which spine you generally use with graphite shafts???

Have a look at the link Titleist posted, there's an 8 minute video in there that was pretty informative.

Anything about spine angles, firing the hips and lag in there?

Nope. It's a jellyfish. Jellyfish have no spine.

Thats what I meant the jellyfish from sphere. Gosh that was a bad movie.

I bought one ages ago, after i went and got some clubmaking tips from virge, as he has one.
Works a treat, i do and have done all my shafts, even checked the KBS Tours i had bought from o/s, all good.
I align the spine, not nbp to the target.
I do think it makes a difference!

OK, now I'm confused. I accidentally stuck a shaft in an R9 tip with the | facing away from target. Will this make the shaft play softer ?

PeteyD
21st April 2010, 10:46 AM
I think that is what Titleist does, assuming the | is the nbp

3oneday
21st April 2010, 11:17 AM
That's the way I read it as well. Damn, lucky I have a shaft extractor then

Captain Nemo

I dont think it will play softer, but i do think you get a tighter dispersion with the spine aligned!
I have read with the nbp facing the target you might get a little bit more "kick" in the shaft due to the stronger part of the shaft being at the back.
All reference and advice is coming from a novice so dont take this as gospel!
