Things don't look good for the ACT in the interstate event after scores of 77, 82, 85, 86, 90 & 91. :-s

One of the top junior players at Oxley has a first name of "Eagle"!

Aiming high in the game I think.

He was up at the Sunshine Coast thing at Headland.

Sean Crilley (ACT) was off about 16 at the start of summer and came down to about 6 or so. Quietest shy kid. Wish him well.

Kacper Goncarz has a game. 85 is way worse than I would have expected. You would know him sms?

this will be a good test for the boy and his mental strength.

A pro that I talk to a fair bit has huge raps on Jake Higginbottom. Says he has an unbelievable short game.

He would have to be good, remember Pup has a better short game then Mickleson. :)

I will be surprised if Cam Smith doesn't win this thing. He is that good IMO, I can't imagine too many his age being better.

I know Kacper quite well given we were both members at Yowani. Nice kid. Great attitude. Terrible action which will struggle to hold up under pressure.

Good to see young Jordy McCarthy going well. Top young fella, great attitude and a lot of talent. Last time I played with him he was playing off 3. A member at Pacific I think.

AlexMc
15th April 2010, 08:02 PM
I know Jac Delaney as well - only 15 and plays off 1. T12 at the moment is a pretty fair result for him.

I played a lot of golf at Yowani with his Kacper's father. I note SMS's comments about his action. Marius had a pretty strange action so I assume that Kacper son inherited it.

AlexMc

It says 14-16 April on the GA website - maybe it is 36 holes today. Surely they wouldn't play it over 54 holes would they?

EDIT - on the entry form it does indeed say 36 holes today.

Muuuuuuurdaaaaaaacaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like Pup might have blown out trying to pull off a blinder in the last round. Either that or there were too many dog-leg holes that didn't suit his gun-barrell straight drives. :)

Talking with a local that caddied for a bloke and he said the green were pretty slick and catching alot of the young blokes out.

Dotty
16th April 2010, 09:37 PM
That may explain it, GMB, as Pup's home course has had problems, and been using a number of temporaries for the past month or so.

kingslayer33
16th April 2010, 09:54 PM
That would have to be a first. Every course in Tassie having greens in better nick than NSW.

14 over after 4 rounds. I could only dream of playing like that . Well played Pup.

AlexMc

Some youngsters on that list with some talent that is for sure.
Better luck next time Pup.

I don't know why, but that has me pissing myself like a moron.

ParMaster
17th April 2010, 06:38 PM
Hopefully Pup can keep it going..

Well I didn't. There isn't really an excuse for my 80 in the last round, but I was playing very aggressive as I needed about a 67 or 68 to achieve my goal of top 5.

this will be a good test for the boy and his mental strength.

I played in the event last year as well, coming T-11th. I have the mental strength to compete in these events, but whenever I've been playing these big 4 day tournaments, I've always had 1 bad round of 6+ over par. If I can shoot 4 solid games there is no reason why I can't win these things.

I wonder if he'll post a course review between rounds

I love Launceston GC. When I go down to Barnie next year I will do a photo review of the course. It's one of those courses that I could happily play for the rest of my life, because it has a lot of variety in the holes.

A pro that I talk to a fair bit has huge raps on Jake Higginbottom. Says he has an unbelievable short game.

Jake is a seriously good golfer. He would have to have a short game to be off a "+" handicap at 16.

He would have to be good, remember Pup has a better short game then Mickleson. :)

True (partly).

Jamie Hook is a Newcastle member, travelling along nicely at the moment..

Jamie is a very nice fella. I played with him for both rounds yesterday and he was looking good after being -2 after 5, but after that he sort of 'lost it' and couldn't sink a putt the rest of the day.

ParMaster would have been higher, but Golflink ****ed his scores up. ;)

ps. Go Parmie.

Thanks, and I'll let you know if they get the scores correct.

Geez that's some good golf !

They are the best juniors in the country, and the range of talent is amazing.

Will the Pup keep the pattern and have a 76 tomorrow?

I was partly hoping that would happen, because scores of 73, 74, 75 and 76 sort of has a ring to it. :)

I think they may be playing 36 holes today, since the champs are scheduled for running over 3 days.

Correct.

I'll post a longer tirade about my tournament later, but for now, I'm going to have a ****ing nice sleep.

Pup :D

20th April 2010, 02:57 PM
Well done pup... one round off a really good result. Maybe you & Stuey Appleby should have a chat :)

So what's the next big tourney for the juniors?

ParMaster
20th April 2010, 03:23 PM
Not sure dhills. I might head down to Victoria again in a couple of months for their state championship, but as of yesterday I'm working very hard at my golf. In the next year or two I might be heading over for the British Junior or US Junior.

dhills2
20th April 2010, 08:47 PM
Fantastic, good to have your mid-long term goals set nice & early so you have something to keep you going when you trip & fall along the way ;)

Edit: The above should be taken along the lines of... 'everyone trips and falls along the way' and not 'you will trip and fall along the way' :)

The minnows did a bit better than usual I note. The ACT boys apart from the last day blowout to Tassia put on a pretty decent performance and finished 6th and the NT also avoided the spoon finishing 7th. Can't imagine that the SA Assoc are feeling good about their showing.

Very true. I heard Kacper 4 putted the last hole to give Lakes the junior pennant against Nathan Willett who 3 putted the last.
