View Full Version : Tenterfield's the go

The house in Tassie is on the market and Tenterfield will be the new escape. Small town with a decent golf course, a 3 court tennis facility and affortable housing appeals to me. Tenterfield has four distinct seasons similar to Tassie. The issue with Tassie is getting there and with only 3 hours drive to Tenterfield this won't be an issue. The golf club is currently $275 a year with no joining fee although this is due to increase to a hefty $295.

Anyone been out that way.

Yes mate, we wander down that way a couple of times a year and stay at the units on course. Nice country course, great meals and cold beer as well as a few wineries.

A group of guys from work go down every year to play Tenterfield, they love it, bent greens and course is always in great condition.

Only thing I know about Tenterfield is that Peter Allen grew up there. Don't forget your maracas.

I think he carried six hybrids and an umbrella for the sun.

Pretty talented bloke though.

Got a Mustang Survival Suit left over from working in Tassie, so I better take that with me.

52 years he sat on his verandah and made his saddles. And if you had questions about sheep or flowers or dogs - you just asked the saddler.

Tenterfield is a great track was down there for a few days with some golfing mates, in January, greens are very good, small, bent grass, and treacherously fast if you leave yourself a downhiller. We plan to make it an annual trip, cheap accom on course, free golf and $30 for the cart and you can keep it all day, we played a leisurely 27 holes every day, the on course restaurant does a great and cheap feed. For less than $300 a year it is a bargain, they only have about 250-300 members as well.

I may be accused of being biased, but I would rate Armidale a clear cut above Tenterfield, which would in turn be above Glen Innes.

In terms of the 18 hole tracks in the Northern Tablelands, I would probably rate them as Armidale (quite a long way in front), then Tenterfield, Inverell, Glen Innes, Uralla and finally Guyra.

Condition is always a big issue in rural areas of course, and playing some of these courses in mid-summer versus mid-winter is a very different experience.

Played the course a couple of times now and it is definitely not a championship course but a decent country track. There's some shot making to be had and some fancy short game moves plus some tough putts. Quite a few risk and reward decisions.
I would prefer a championship course but am satisfied enough to plan to move to Tenterfield.

Blowing a gale today and only saw two other people on the course.

Started the first round of my annual matchplay tournament.

I pitt 8 balls against each other in a knockout format. The ball has to get through 3 rounds to win and a lost ball is DQed.

TM Penta was 3 up on the turn when the Srixon ZURS went AWOL on the 10th. Tough contest early with double birdies on the 1st.

Tomorrow will see PRO V1 take on TM Black.

And an added bonus by my girlfriend who had a go at making a knock off of my favorite Christmas cake. The Collins Street Bakery's Deluxe fruit cake. She pulled it off and the cake is better than the original.

21st December 2010, 07:40 PM

Tenterfield is par 71 rated at 69.

Not sure on exact scores as I just keep the tally in my head but the Titleist ball was 2 over and the Bridgy was around 5 over.

Next match will be the last of the 1st round duels with Srixon Z Star against the under dog, Nike One Black.
