Matt Jager from MGGC won by 5 strokes. Matt's off a +2 and is our current? club champion. It sounds like he's going to turn pro in 2011.

Jager wins Mens Amateur Stroke Play Championship

West Australian Matt Jager made the most of his hometown knowledge to take out the Australian Amateur Men's Stroke Play Championship at Lake Karrinyup Country Club in Perth on Sunday.

Jager shot a two-under 70 in the final round to finish at 12-under for the tournament, five strokes clear of Victorian Luke Bleumink and Korean Jin Jeong..

Victorian Ryan Woodward, who shared the overnight lead with Jager, bombed out in the final round with a six-over 78 to finish in fourth place.

New Zealand's Ryan Fox started the final round just two strokes off the pace but also endured a torrid fourth round with a seven-over 79.

I went out there today and followed Matt from his 4th hole onward. He went 2 down pretty quick to some BIG putts from his opponent. He hung tough though and as his opponent struggled a little he pulled it back to a 3/2 win. In the afternoon the bloke he played against, Lincoln Tighe if I remember correctly was a MASSIVE hitter. He is a big boy with a very short swing who just pounds it. on the 3rd hole he was about 20m past where Ernie Els was when he played that hole during the JW Classic a few years ago. The weather sirens went off as a wild storm approached just after Jager had played the 9th and I didn't get his score because I was waiting for him to come down the 10th (and perving on some of those very hot girls playing the Ladies Amateur).

I imagine that storm could have played havoc with the course, trees down, bunkers washed out, etc. I was driving home at the time and it's the worst conditions I've EVER been in. Still waiting for power to come back on at home (Willetton) 2:00pm today! :( I think the whole Canning Vale, Riverton, Thornlie, Lynwood, etc., etc. is still out - restoration time: UNKOWN from western power web site. Shit load of food to cook up/throw out tonight! Nowhere to store the cooked stuff anyway.
