This will be my sixth consecutive year of being torn a new one by this event. Why o why do I do it?

These could be the last rounds we play before the new handicap system comes in (or the announcement of another delay), so it's the perfect opportunity to get that handicap out.

Here's the info:
36 holes over the Sat/Sun
Handicap cut-off of 18.4
$40 for the 2 days (pre-paid) --- BARGAIN!
Prizes for daily and total. 3 grades.
Entries (via entry form (http://www.headlandgolfclub.com.au/headlandgolf/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=1321)) close 19/3.

Anyway, who wants to join me? I've heard informal interest from Rusty and Blakey so far.

Stupidly popular thread this one

It was better when it was jarro-free.

Now i know you don't mean that fwend

Rusty
15th March 2010, 04:52 PM
yup, i'm interested. (was either thinking about this or Woodford Open Cup which is around Easter as well - though found out it's on this weekend).

individually fax our entry forms to them?
6:45-7:15am preferred tee time?

AndyP
15th March 2010, 05:06 PM
I'll go along with that, but I'll see who is joining us first for group requests, before putting my entry in.

BrisVegas
15th March 2010, 05:43 PM
I'll run it by the boss, but am only a slim chance. We are camping at maroochy over easter. It would be me and a mate from brooky.

PeteyD
16th March 2010, 11:54 AM
I am good to go with this. Should I fill in and fax the form now?

AndyP
16th March 2010, 12:28 PM
If you want, just list my name and Rusty's in the appropriate section. Last year we asked for 7:50a and got 7:34a for both days and found that the day wasn't too slow compared to normal. I think we'll aim for that again.

PeteyD
16th March 2010, 12:47 PM
What clubs are you and rusty with? I am redland bay obviously. Are you Wolston Park?

AndyP
16th March 2010, 01:03 PM
I am at Robina Woods and I think Rusty is Riverlakes.

PeteyD
16th March 2010, 01:12 PM
ask for 7:50 again?

AndyP
16th March 2010, 01:32 PM
Are you driving up each morning? If so, 7:50a is a good balance between not getting up too early, and staying in the morning groups. Both Rusty and I will be based on the Coast for the weekend.

PeteyD
16th March 2010, 02:24 PM
Not sure, we are trying to organise to stay with a friend up there. 7:50 suits me nicely.

Rusty
16th March 2010, 04:27 PM
it's hard to know exactly from year to year, but much after 7:30/7:40 the field seems to slow down a bit. from memory one year with CobraSS and his bro, we had a really slow round.

so i take it i should still wait a day or two to see what the final numbers are before faxing my form.

PeteyD
16th March 2010, 04:35 PM
I can go earlier, 7:30 might be a better option. They need to be in soon.

AndyP
16th March 2010, 04:58 PM
They need to be in Friday. I'm okay for 7:30, but hope to get in the seeded groups for Sunday.

PeteyD
16th March 2010, 05:03 PM
Is it only the gross comp that is seeded? So it is. Top 12 Championship Qulifiers.

I like to join as well, no time preference.

AndyP

It depends on whether Dion is playing or not.

Headland GC rejected my application :(

There's always next year :)

Enjoy guys. Wish you a good Easter.

AndyP
22nd March 2010, 03:53 PM
Why was it rejected? High handicap?

PeteyD
22nd March 2010, 04:00 PM
How do you know? Did they send email?

AndyP
22nd March 2010, 07:46 PM
Are you on a reserve list?
Did you mention how many consecutive years you have played? (I slip it in every time)

PeteyD
23rd March 2010, 10:30 AM
HAs anyone had an acceptance yet? or is it just Andy's being rejected straight away?

AndyP
23rd March 2010, 10:42 AM
I don't recall ever getting a notification of acceptance, except to see my name on the draw when it is released.

Rusty
23rd March 2010, 11:01 AM
same ^ . just see name on draw sheet. i guess if they do reject, they'd notify you. otherwise you're in.

my credit card was debited by Headland GC on 18/3/10.

Alo who's got your spot? did you also mention that AndyP and i have played for years in this also, as a group.

PeteyD
23rd March 2010, 11:23 AM
When is the draw released? Doesn't look like they have debitted my card yet.

AndyP
23rd March 2010, 01:12 PM
After March 31 (no refund date), I would assume.

andylo
23rd March 2010, 01:46 PM
Sorry for the late reply guys :p

Yeah, my handicap currently is out of 18.4 range. That's the reason. I had argued that I had played many years in a row with the same people, and I also mention I would happily play with a 18.4 handicap. But the guy replied...

If we let every higher handicap player (and we have had a number of people ask this question) simply play off 18.4 it defeats the purpose of putting a handicap limit on the event. If you do drop to below 18.4 before the event, let us know and we will see what we can do, however certainly no guarantees that you will get in the field let alone in with your preferred group. It looks as though we will probably have a full field as it is.

A few adhoc scores should sort that out.

Rusty

PeteyD

Card has been debitted, so looks good so far! Accomodation (friends house) has been sorted.

PeteyD

Yah. You guys are mired in mediocrity.

AndyP
3rd April 2010, 07:28 PM
The rain stayed away today, but it was overcast and that kept it cooler. The course was damp after getting a decent amount of rain last night. If there is no rain tonight, the greens could be a nightmare tomorrow.

Our fourth was a guy from Sandy Gallop. He seemed like a nice guy and we are playing with him again tomorrow.

There's nothing special about our scores today. Rusty and I struggled, and Petey couldn't get off the tee straight and had trouble with the greenside rough.

1. AndyP 88 nett 76
2. Rusty 89 nett 77
3. PeteyD 101 nett 86

Rusty
3rd April 2010, 10:56 PM
excellent day today. can't wait to do it again tomorrow. a little bit of rain before our game tomorrow, to keep the greens at the right speed'll be good.

Sweet shooting Pete

AndyP
4th April 2010, 03:10 PM
Ferrins, you'll be extremely please to know that Petey lifted his game today, although he struggled greenside.

The pins were tougher and it left us with some slippery putts at times. It is so hard to get up and down and make one putts at that place. The course is looking good and the greens rolled true.

They were leaving the bunkers outside of the traps for the tournament, which I thought was a bit strange, as they don't usually do that at the course.

Looking up at the scoreboard from yesterday, it made us feel better to see that there wasn't a lot in red. Even the defending champion had an 83 nett 82. Here's the total scores from the two days:

Place - Name - Day1 - Day2 - Total
1. AndyP 88 nett 76 - 85 nett 73 - 173 nett 149
2. Rusty 89 nett 77 - 93 nett 81 - 182 nett 158
3. PeteyD 101 nett 86 - 91 nett 76 - 192 nett 162

Yeah, its always confused me when they do that as well.

PeteyD
4th April 2010, 09:24 PM
I really enjoyed the weekend. Tough course with no safe misses on a lot of greens. They had a thick fluffy rough around the greens that I struggled with a lot on Saturday. Not so bad on Sunday but I made up for that with a wedge shank! Greens were sweet as, no 3 putts all weekend for me ( a few from the fringe though).

AndyP
5th April 2010, 11:28 PM
Poo! I missed out on prizes on various categories in Division 3 by either 2 shots, 1 shot or on countback. And my pin on 18 at 3m didn't hold (although you should have to give the prize back if you 3 putt anyway).

Rusty
7th April 2010, 05:22 PM
gee, i didn't feel i played as bad on Sunday as Saturday, but the score tells all.

well done AP. didn't you say that was your best 2 day score around there - marvellous what a bit of matchplay can do for the score.

good to see on sunday we made it round the traps and up the to the clubhouse after the 9th without the aid of the rope.

AndyP
7th April 2010, 10:35 PM
well done AP. didn't you say that was your best 2 day score around there -
I've gone back through the scores to check.

It was my best overall gross (beating 2005 by 1), and it was my 2nd best overall nett (2005 was one better with 148).
Day 2 was my best gross score and equal best nett (with Day 1 2005).
That's a long time between decent scores there.
