nice putting Tung :D

played this arvo, just couldnt strike it too well today but still managed to find a good score (short course helps). Jumped on the bogey train on 4 and didnt get off till the 7th, but got it going again with an eagle on 13 8) 1.5 putts per GIR has to be my best performance in a long time. the lack of greens helped that stat and also lead to another total putts under 30. If i play tomorow, and hit some greens look out, my putter feels deadly atm. after years of mocking my putting im taking every chance to talk it up.. who knows how long this will last

Fariways - 2/10
GIR - 6

Trung, when are you going to get a haircut and a job :D

What’s with the 10th green, big green, slopping or is it the operator of the putter  :D

Can I play Tung in the first round of the NSW Matchplay?

You big stirrer, as you have already been told.........secured a job in the city this week with many additional extras..
eg. car + private car spot in the CBD  .

As for the 10th green... The pin was tucked high right both days. I went for the bird on both days as both were uphill putt (around 5-6m) .. Only to have a 1.5m putt straight down hill coming back twice... ..... Gotta be less agressive on those putts

The operator is doing fine 8) .

Great news from the Gold Coast Div 1 pennants - Emerald Lakes won 4/3 and in doing so guaranteed we cant get relegated. We are 2 wins from 3 and tied for 3rd on the ladder.

The deciding match finished on the 22nd. Our bloke smashed his drive 320 metres and lobbed a 9 iron to about 12ft. The eagle was conceded and we were home. Happy days.

I have embedded myself as the reserve and quite happy to be there. These Div1 players are too good for me, seems that about a 3 handicap is the highest marker out there, except our team!.

I won my token match against a 12yo in leg braces again, but blimey, i have never seen someone get up and down so much - 6 times on the front 9, and a couple of them he was dead and gone. Even G69 isnt that good.

990BLuva - take note, in the last fortnight i have beaten opponents off the stick who are on half my handicap. to give you 11 shots is nuthin....

I thought in pennants the match was halved after 18 holes and you get a half point each  but we are talking the gold coast here I spose :D

So Trung you have a week to go to get to 5 and I have...... well some time on my hands :D congrats on the job mate 8) about time

i have never known pennants to be any other way. you keep playing until its finished. I remember one bloke on the sunshine coast took 26 holes to win his game.

Logan played Gainsbourough greens on Saturday and 2 matches where halved Div2.

Lgan looked like winning 6/3 at one stage and would have sealed the pennant, one guy was up 2 with 3 to go and got done  another guy was 2 up with 2 to go and got one of those halves, so it come down to the last pair and the logan guy needed to get up and down in 2 from the back of the 18th and failed to do so, that would have give them a 4 1/2 to 4 1/2 draw but they ended up losing 5/4

In other words, Logan golfers are chokers.
Take note those of you who are facing a Logan player in the first round of matchplay (Nudgee, Drunken, Choppa, Tezza).
Kev, looks like you were lucky to get a bye first up.

2 under.. nice mau =D>

got away with my swing for 16 holes today, wasn’t so lucky on the other two, double and a triple (after which I was even more mentally fudged than usual). so the run of 1 or 2 over has finally ended, had 6 shots too many this arvo. chipping and putting continues to be much improved.

Fairways -> 3/10 (3 missed with a 6iron :( )
Greens -> 7 (2/8 par 3's :x )
U/D -> 4/7
Miracle Chip Ins -> 1 :D

putts 34
U/D 3/3
SS 1/1

The score should have been better, 3 of those GIR ended up 3 putt bogeys  hence the 3 over par score

Thanks to Nudgee, Tezza and Griz for the day :P

Congrats to Nudgee on the win 8) to be honest though anybody could have beat either of them  :D

Grunt
25th March 2005, 07:36 PM
31 points today

First game in 2 weeks very scratchy, wicked slice came back, iron play was not that bad, putting was very average too many 3 putts.

Will hit the lesson path again just to get it all right. I know I am a better golfer than 23 suggests

At the moment I feel like a single figure marker trapped in a hackers body

One day all the holes in the cheese will align and look out Grunt wil shoot 80's

jimandr
25th March 2005, 09:35 PM
If Grunt can say he's a better player than his handicap suggests, then so can I. The difference is his statement is true, while mine isn't at the moment.

Playing with Grunt, Jono and Trung at Macarthur Grange my 32 points was about what I deserved on a course I should be tearing apart. I don't enjoy the luxury of reachable par 5's very often, and hit poor fairway woods twice of the three I could reach, and didn't convert any of them into birdies.

After a dusty start I drove the ball well, but irons weren't very good. Hit some greens, but always a long way from the hole on very big greens. The new putter again didn't perform, but that was more due to the number of very long putts I left myself.

7 of 12 fairways
9 of 18 greens
36 putts, inc 4 3 putts
2 of 6 up and down (both to save bogey)
1 of 3 sand saves

Good to be back home - not that i've lived here for more than 2 weeks consecutively.

Single stableford at Casino -

39 pts (17/22, 1 wipe)
32 putts? Didn't count other stats, not many fairways but plenty of 'effective' tee shots.

Pretty sure the CCR will be down around 68, so likely to lose .3.

Using the new driver - SMT Spectrum, and once i got that hang of it i started to get it out there. Long lost confidence with driver hopefully returning.

Lip-out par on the last - we have made a nice even 40 points. Any day a chopper like me pars the 18th at Casino is a good day.

Off to Kyogle tomorrow for skinners with the oldies. If i get off the tee like i did today i could really make inroads into this handicap (again )

26/04/05, Headland GC, Sunshine Coast Easter Open Amateur Champs

Got off to a strange start, alternating between pars and double bogeys. Never really felt like I was hitting it that well, and stuggled with putts on the slick greens. Whenever I missed a green, it was to the wrong side, making it very difficult to get up & down.

Once I figured out that I was out of kilter because I was a little stagnant over the ball, I got a bit more aggressive, and had +1 for the last five holes.
Hopefully I can continue on tomorrow, where I left today.

9/14 effective T-shots.
6/18 effective regulation approaches.
36 putts.
---------------
9 pars.
4 bogeys.
5 doubles.
42-44-86 nett 73 (par 36-36-72).

A very mediocre 33 points today, with big negatives and a big positive. I don't know which to take more notice of: terrible ball striking, or my best chipping and putting for months.

7 of 14 fairways
A massive 3 GIR, but I also hit a 5 wood to 3 feet for the world's best par 4 after a sideways chipout.
1 of 3 sand saves
7 of 10 up and downs :o
29 putts (1 three putt, no birdies)

27/04/05, Headland GC, Sunshine Coast Easter Open Amateur Champs Round 2

Getting frustrated with my consistent inconsistent rounds. Once again, seemed to match up pars with double bogeys too often.
Played a little smarter today, and avoided missing greens to the wrong side as much. Unfortunately, I didn't get up and down as much as I would have liked.

My scores seem to be hovering around my handicap (+5 total in last three comp rounds), so maybe it is only a matter of time, before I shoot a good score. If I could nominate a date for it, I would say April 16. ;)

7/14 effective T-shots.

Saturday was 4 Ball so I went around with the odd pairing. Made heaps of mistakes of distance, air mailed 4 greens and the rough is mountain forest there. Ended up with 101 with 2 snowmen after I got excited by a birdie.

Scooted around with the Club Sec. on Sunday for my second card made a stone cold start of 8 and then 9  leading to another 101.

Gunna have to start working on eyeballing distances inside 120m cos I was hopeless. The new 3W that Ben made me is a little rocket. :smt023

instead of playing the MM this arvo (which I thought would be cancelled), I made my way to the Airport Course to join my mate, and his mates...

played the front nine in one over (which I was very surprised with), bogeys on both par3s, and made a bird on the 7th (after hitting GIR with a 6 iron from the fairway bunker)...

standing on the 10th tee, raring to go (for potentially my 2nd best score on the course), the rain stated falling consistently, and the rest of the guys decided to take a break at the halfway house...

soon, we were joined by the group behind us, who didn't even finish the 9th, and another group who didn't finish the 8th...

what could have been!!! :?

Hedland is a tough course I here with slick greens at this time of the year.....
I have a new appreciation of Headland now, after playing there this weekend. It is a very good course.

My scores seem to be hovering around my handicap (+5 total in last three comp rounds), so maybe it is only a matter of time, before I shoot a good score.

maybe its a matter of time before you can count. try for +11 in last 3 comp rounds.

Just found out that my +1 was enough to win yesterdays comp ( on a countback) but because I'm not a member I can't win the voucher prize - although they"ll take my comp fee money. Is this normal?
I won 2 golf balls for winning the comp and four for the nearest to the pin. I lost .4 from my handicap......back to 19.8 again. Just need one more good round to get to 19 - then 1 stroke to reach my goal of 18. Then I gotta stay there!!

No its not normal, you have been ripped off and you should tell them so.
Its normal for a visitor not to win the Monthly Medal for example, but you still get the 1st prize, just not the medal.

I have seen some clubs have a seperate Visitors comp, but they usually tell you about it beforehand, so you know where you stand.

also if you were not in the same comp as the members, then you cant be handicapped according to their Competition Course Rating, so you could be handicapped differently for that round.

Yep - they've jipped you FG, this is a load of crap. Horton Park tried to bring this one in for ladies comps a while back, but I was on committee at the time and raised such a ruckus that they gave up on the idea - so visitors pay comp fees/win vouchers the same as any member.... :D

Nope, +5 vs Par in the last 3 rounds.

Last minute decision to play, rang at 7:20am and had a tee time for 8:05 in Stableford comp. Played scrappy and thought in trouble when it took a chip in to salvage bogey on the first (par 3). Short game was in excellent shape and shot 20 points for the front after a par on the par 5 9th with 2 strokes.

Back 9 was solid except for one double and scored 23 pts for 43 total. Dropped 2 shots to now sit at 19.9.

2 good rounds away from reching first goal of 18h'cap. Here's to maintaining good form.

you should be pleased that someone has actually noticed what you had posted

no your not right, its quite clear your scores are not hovering near your handicap at all, and your kidding yourself if you think you are.

I could say the same thing about my recent scores, i am scoring at roughly Nett Par but i am a million miles from playing to my handicap.

a lot of people think that a Net Score of Par is playing to their handicaps (becuase they dont understand CCR) I dont think that you are one of them.

OK, +5 vs nett Par and +9 vs nett CCR (still not that bad) over the last three comp rounds.

I actually believe that the CCR has been biased towards the lower handicapped players in the last two events I have played anyway.
At Headland the total CCR for the two rounds was 143. Nett 2nd place in Div 3 (12-27), which was a field of about 75, had a total nett of 145. That is, 2 over the CCR.
Doesn't make my 4 over look that bad, if you ask me.

I was just using a statistic that favoured my argument of hitting it fairly well, and you caught me out. ;)

Single stableford at Casino -

39 pts (17/22, 1 wipe)
Pretty sure the CCR will be down around 68, so likely to lose .3.
Fishy, with this round, and the other two over your handicap during Easter. Did you end up getting 2 shots on any holes, or have you temporarily put on hold the move to 19. 18.3 now?

AP - i think i updated this in the other WDYS thread...

Actually lost .6 - the course is playing a little tougher with long rough. It's absolutely awesome out there, especially for a country course. So i PLUMMETED to 17.8, and then duly added another .2 in the other rounds i played while i was up there.

So currently 18.0.

Good work. Must be the first handicap drop for a while?

Yeah i think it is - i had +2 in a vs Par comp at Bayview in December, but not sure what happened to that - i'm sure the CCR was around that mark.

Oddly enough, it was the first round with the new driver (as per the WITB post), and while i scratched around the front it clicked over the back 9. The back 9 at Casino (holes 11 to 17 anyway) are much more forgiving than the front.

Still spewing that i missed a 2-3 footer for par on the 18th - more due to the fact that the approach (5-iron) was bee-lining to the flag, landed in the only muddy spot in the Northern Rivers, to pull up about 5 metres short of the pin (off the green) at the crest of a mound. Another metre and it would have rolled to within feet of the hole
