OK, be kind.

Here I am hitting a driver and an iron

Apologies for the quality, it is off my phone.

I have not had lessons and am pretty much self taught, so please feel free to rip my swing apart. I know I am not holding the club right and certain other things. I think it is lesson time.

I usually average about 95-100 per round, I don't know what that works out to as a handicap. I am still new to it all, only just started playing again after a long lay off!

Cheers!

As they say lesson 1 - get a lesson. Your local pro will be able to give you all the tips and drills to improve your swing. what iron were you hitting there ? looked like a 9 iron or p/w

I'm no expert but I'd say not that bad at all. The swing with your iron looks pretty smooth.

Couple of tips

1- try and hold your follow through longer.
2- don't wear jeans on a golf course.

Ok thanks for the replies, it was an 8 iron I think.

As for jeans I am sorry when I can afford a pair of nice pants for golf I will buy some. Like I said, I am just getting back into it!

Hacker's opinion here but a few observations anyway -
1. Alignment: Looks like you are aligned out to the right and then swing across yourself. Driver swing looked particularly out to in... do you hit some big slices? Better set up a workstation & lay a few clubs down across the toes & down the target line.
2. Grip pressure: Hard to tell by video but the regripping of the left hand just before start of takeaway looks like you might be choking it a little.
3. Posture: Seem a little hunched but iron also looks a bit short.
4. Ball: Looks like it's teed up pretty high for the short iron... makes it hard to compress :)
5. Rest of it... better leave it to the swing gurus to jump in but the takeaway looks pretty closed & your whole torso seems to lift up during the backswing. That tempo looks pretty violent & I would imagine it's hard to find any sort of consistency with the amount of movement in your swing... unless you have unbelievable coordination with your hands and are able to manipulate that clubface in the downswing! Clothes are also brutal :) Jeans & collar up... you look like you're at a B&S!

Anyway mate, like I said, I'm a hack... but I think a string of lessons with a good pro would do wonders. Your swing looks pretty raw at the moment but you seem to have a fair bit of natural ability there as well. Good luck with it.

1. You are right, I can see it now. Yes, I do hit some big slices.
2. Again never noticed it but now I think about it I do hold the club very firmly.
3. I actually did think i looked hunched and that the iron looks too small? Can that be the case?
4. The ball was on one of those red step tees, about 6mm I think. What do you mean by compress?
5. I find that I am actually pretty consistant in hitting the irons, the driver not so much at the moment and yes the clothes are vomit. I apologise! haha

Definately "Casting", which is what I used to do (and still do sometimes).

A pro will sort you out very quickly and I reckon you will be shooting in the 80s within a few months!!!
