Tough conditions this morning in the monthly mug. 88/72 for net par. Left the driver at home and played 3W off the tee. Seemed to work better. 11 Fairways, 2 gir, 29 putts, 8 pars, 4 dubs and a woeful triple on 13. 2 penalties. Lots of water on the course and intermittant squalls made it a fun round. Only 2 of us in the group so went round in 3 hours, which was a nice change.

Well played Peteyd.

Good idea playing the 3 wood off the tee. In the wet, it's almost as long as driver and straighter for sure.

henno
3rd March 2010, 02:45 PM
29 putts is pretty good going on wet greens. I bet there would have been a few "rooster tails" of water on some longer putts.

Not really. I managed to miss a couple of short ones when the rain was coming in horizontal though.

You might be half a chance with that score today Petey!

Maybe. Looked like it might get nicer this arvo but the wind and squalls are back.

I am dry now too :D

03/03/2010, Kooindah Waters GC, Solo Round.

8/13 effective tee-shots.
5/18 effective approaches.
6/11 up and down successes.
29 putts.
---------------------
11 pars.
6 bogeys.
1 other.

Score 43-38-81 nett 70 stab 17-22-39 (Par 36-36-72 ACR 70).
Ball age: 17 holes.

The first hole was a throwaway, losing my ball with a pulled drive, then shanking an approach for another lost ball. That's what happens when you drive for over an hour then walk onto the tee. I decided to keep stableford points so I'd have the option of picking up. I didn't need to in the end, as I played very well from that point on, particular my driving (which is on fire) and putting (on lightly cored greens). I even scored strong (as opposed to playing well) in my last three holes, which has been the weak point of my game recently.

Golf is being nice to me at the moment.

Next round: I haven't decided if I will sneak out to Pacific Dunes or not tomorrow. If not, I might be playing OZgolf matchplay on Sunday, which may be at Oxley. Lots of maybes.

It's the most I have been under par in a comp for sure, but the course played short due to many tees being forward in preparation for the Womens Open next week. Just hit it very well and knocked 'em all in.

04/03/2010, Pacific Dunes GC, Solo Round.

2/11 effective tee-shots.
1/14 effective approaches.
1/6 up and down successes.
27 putts through 14 holes.
---------------------
2 pars.
9 bogeys.
3 others.
Score: 20 points through 14 holes.

Golf is being nice to me at the moment.Good call, ya stupid twat.

I called it quits after 14 holes, as I just wasn't enjoying it. I didn't hit any fairways on the front nine, but managed to restrict the damage to a lot of bogeys. A 9-9 start on the back nine tipped me over the edge.

I'm now thinking that playing off the permanent back markers in a strong wind was a bad idea, especially when it was clear that I was playing bad as well.

Golf really ****ed with me on the last hole. I walked off the 14th green to the ladies tee on the 18th and thought I'd hit from there for some "fun". It was a 435m par 5 downwind with a very well protected green. A pure drive, and flushed 3 wood later and I was 5m from the hole. Fortunately, I missed the putt or else I might have needed admission to a mental institution.

Next round: Buggered if I know if the matchplay round is happening on Sunday. I'd say probably not and will make it a weekday game instead.

edit: I just looked back at my other Pac Dunes scores. That place owns me. Want to play matchplay there, Rusty?

Why are the men's tees forward? Are the chicks playing from the men's tees?

Why are the men's tees forward? Are the chicks playing from the men's tees?

Thursday tees are usually a mix of middle and back tees, but at present with the ladies playing mostly off the back tees next week, most were forward yesterday. Except for a couple where we hit over the barriers already set up. CCR was 71 against par of 73 which is usual for a calm Thursday this time of year.

If there is any wind at all next week the shielas will find the course a real challange.

Swam my way round Caboolture this morning 6/3. Was meant to be monthly medal but they changed it to stableford due to the conditions. Lots of cancelations, no carts allowed, all bunkers = GUR, and tee up through the green.

Despite the slop, 35 points. I guy I know who has only just got his card and is off 24 snagged 48 points

Effective tee shots 11/13

Great shooting, Jack. That is some pretty hot golf, and great putting.

1st round Club Champs at Albury today, and I just had a "meh" round. Didn't putt all that well, and missed a few key fairways. 3 putted the last for a 77 - nett 71 (par 70). Not horrible - just not all that good, either. 3 more rounds to go, so there's plenty of time to get the putter warmed up.

Played Mareeba this morning with NKJ and NKJ No 4 escorting and handling flag duties.

89/78.

Greens were in excellent nick, there is a spraying program going on to get rid of rubbish grasses but the putting surface hasn't been affected.

Course is pretty well dry but still not a lot of run.

NKJ was heading for his PB, but kept letting in some major blowouts.

Couple of foto's attached, NKJ with his OZgolf Shirt and Scotty in hand and NKJ No 4.

Medal day in Dubbo - 81/69. On the face of it - good round and was leading the field in A Grade when I left the club.

However...9's of 35 and 46. :(

Fairways hit - 7/13 (5 front 9, 2 back 9). Putts - 30 (12 front 9, 18 back 9 including 2 3-putts). 3 double bogeys, 2 3-putts.

I played so calmly around the front. 1 bogey, 1 birdie. The back 9 was just a disaster. I hit the ball well throughout - it was just little things that went wrong out the back that compounded on each other. 3 shots in the bunker on 10 (landed in someones footprints first, rolled in to mine for my second), chipped from under a tree on 12 and hit a tree root and went backwards towards a hazard, lipped out on 16 and spat out 6 foot downhill. I didn't think it was a change in attitude - it was like everything went right in the front 9 and everything that could have gone wrong out the back did.

I bought Bob Rotella's "Golf Is Not A Game of Perfect" last week. Best get in and take a read because I really feel like what is holding me back is all upstairs...

First comp game in two months for me since the forced lay off with my knee injury. Also first comp game with the new irons!

Comp: Medal Stroke
Conditions: Wet
Score: 78 nett 77

I was very happy with the way I played even though the score does not refect this. The two months off had definitely affected my short game, as I missed a few easy up and downs and didn't hole a thing.

Very poor bogey, bogey, double finish bloated the score pretty quickly also.

I hit my new irons really good though with a great flight, still need to get acquainted with their distances, but all in all very happy! My knee held out OK also, it is far from 100%, but the strap that the physio has provided is helping a lot.

Stats:

1 x birdie
5 x bogies
1 x double
10 x GIR
34 putts
1 x 3 putt
3/8 up and downs

A woeful 33 points at Camden Valley today. 33 can be a good score, but today it was awful because I drove the ball really well and then butchered almost every hole. Had a 3 pointer on the 1st hole, then didn't have another one all day.

Turned up to play on Saturday to cored and sanded greens. I won't complain too much as the greens needed the work badly.

35 points 14/21. Took a while to find my feet - I really need to hit a couple of balls before I tee off - and that cost me on the front 9. Played pretty solid after the first three holes and seeing as I didn't make a putt over 3 feet all day I was actually striking the ball quite well.

A two round stroke event starts next wek so hopefully the green are a bit better and I can make a few putts.
