Early news is that Hopes could be out. Damn shame that would be.

My two picks to win this for NSW - Jaques and Thornton. These two will be wearing Green'n'Gold before any more QLD'ers.

Thornely?
Are you so depressed about Bret Thornton's injury during last night's Wizard Cup final, that you can't get him out of your mind.

Good question.......

There is a big difference between not supporting Qld sporting sides, and hating everything about Qld.

MacGill has enjoyed outstanding success against Queensland - taking 59 wickets at 28 against the Bulls - and shapes as a formidable weapon in the Pura Cup final.

And another 20 on offer tomorrow :D

Jarro, it's the only way the Bull's will win again, if the Mighty Blues players move around and help the other states a bit :D

Well at least there's *some* cricket today.

QLD 0/10 at lunch after 6 overs.

Haddin sent the Bulls in to bat - must be a green top and hoping to knock over 3 or 4 early wickets. I would have thought bowling last on this pitch would have been the preferred option with MacGill in the team.

Mind you, with no decent QLD spinners, batting 4th on this strip might not be so bad - either that or this doctored pitch won't turn much until Day 8 anyway

Where are the COCKY BULLS now?

QLD - 3/18 - having just lost their 'star' recruit Shane Watson for a DUCK!

Bracken has 2, Nicholson 1.

I'll tell you who is making the runs for QLD - when they make some...

Bracken was bowling boomarangs,I don't care how good you are or who you are,its almost impossible to to keep bowling like that out.

Looked to me that he was swinging it more than a foot easierly.

Footnote:Bowling like this he has to be a shoe in for the Ashes tour. Will be suited to the conditions over there.

From memory Tait, doesn't swing it like that.

Bracken destroys Bulls
March 18, 2005

NSW quick Nathan Bracken rocketed into calculations for this year's Ashes tour with six first innings wickets to leave Queensland stunned on the opening day of the Pura Cup final at the Gabba.

Bracken showed why forgotten Australian speedster Brett Lee wasn't rushed across the Tasman for the final by claiming 6-27 as the Bulls were bundled out for 102 in 35.2 overs.

In reply, the Blues were 1-26 when bad light saw early stumps called with Greg Mail (12) the only wicket to fall when he edged Shane Watson to Clinton Perren at third slip.

Bracken, who took 7-4 against South Australia earlier in the season, took advantage of the favourable bowling conditions to mystify the Queensland batting line-up with his pace and swing.

He finished with the best figures in a Pura Cup/Sheffield Shield final since NSW paceman Wayne Holdsworth took 7-41 in the 1992/93 decider against Queensland.

Like his predecessor, Bracken is now shaping as a bolter for the Ashes tour with South Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait his main rival.

Man I said this above not an hour ago....I should be a sports journo

Can you tell me who is going to win the Golden Slipper tomorrow?

Fishman Dan
18th March 2005, 08:42 PM
Tez - typical left-arm bowler, and makes the earlier effort this season look like no fluke - when he took 7 for 4 or something. Don't know why it happens, but left armers are bigger swingers (in the sporting sense, not in the Jarro sense) than right-armers.

He's always in calculations, but fact is he'll never get a start on the Ashes Tour even if he goes - just ask Mike Whitney.

Most batsmen cannot play a left-arm quick swinging the ball in - i should know, I rolled our rival team with 8-51 one wet day with the same boring inswinger all day. Bastards only had 10 players too - cost me a 9-for ;)

terryand
18th March 2005, 08:48 PM

I know he is not in the same class as Bracken, but its something different to what Qld normally turn out.

Just saw the 5 balls Sports Tonight managed to show us

I've seen quality golf greens with less grass on them than that pitch - great decision from Haddin to bowl first. Gotta say some terrible batting though.

NSW 1/26 at stumps.

Mail is out, but nothing lost there. Jaques and Thornely are the key. If Haddin fails, one or both of these blokes could still score runs and they all score quickly. Or we could be all out for 120 at lunch tomorrow... :?:
