Fairbanks Ranch CC is around 30 minutes drive north of San Diego. Was originally the steeple course for the Olympic Games with a few of the jumps still used as 'features' today.
To meet the prior global financial crisis, the club had to take some drastic action. So, out went the initiation fee and annual subs were dropped from $150,000 down to $70,000. Surprisingly, they have had another half dozen or members join up. Golf course is 27 holes with 41 staff.........
Another 'exclusive' course nearby dropped their fees from $300,000 (no typo) to $175,000 per year (no typo). Damn that GFC.
The view from the Clubhouse.

Classic architecture at the 1st green......

One of the Par 3's. Stood out so much I couldn't remember the number.

Wonder if they considered it might be a bit more enjoyable if it was cut short instead of long rough and striped.

Finally.....made it to the last hole.

But don't forget the waterfall at the 18th green....

Worth another look. At least it is a bit more subtle than Trumps.

So, worth it for US$70k per year?
Classic wankfest.
