View Full Version : McLeod Cup, Saturday April 16, 6:48-7:30a

AndyP
10th March 2005, 01:44 PM
The McLeod Cup is coming up again. This year it will be held on Saturday, April 16.

Timesheets will be out in two weeks, so hopefully I will have a good idea of numbers by then, and do a dodgy reserve of a couple of spots if need be.

Before the migration from the "other" forum, the following people had committed to playing this year ;) :

Those who played last time, but yet to commit:

Cost was $10 last time, and the guy in the pro-shop indicated it would be about the same again.

Let's see a show of hands.

I might need to re-think my previous commitment to this.

Our situation at home has just changed dramatically with the missus just being offered full-time work starting next monday

lots of juggling kids and such, but the best part is she will have all weekends off 8)

.. so at this stage i assume i'm still in ... but stay tuned

Incorrect. I said I didn't want to play the Matchplay champs and that I doubted I would have time to play much golf at all for a while. I may still have to pull out of the McLeod Cup at the last minute if it turns out that we can get a concreter that weekend to do our driveway etc., but for now I am in.

gee that was a fast comeback for something not too obvioous. :P

then for the matchplay why not a "for now I am in", you will have a bye anyway and wont have to play your first game until July? :?

surely you cant be that sure you will have no interest or time that far ahead. Its going to be a shallow victory for the winner should Ozgolfs best player not show up.....

remember, dont put off today, what you dont have to put off until at least tomorrow. in other words you got until July 30th to withdraw.

I already pulled the pin and thought the 20th was the deadline for nominations, right? I don't expect the rules to be changed for me, so there's no point me trying to join in now... despite the fact that you tell me I now have a bye for the first round.

It's your tournament. If you REALLY want me to be a part of it, then I will acquiesce. Of course, I'll want at least $100K in appearance fees to show up for this shindig. Oh, and can I play AndyP around Brookwater!!

Up to you mate. I don't want to cause a rules discussion, so if it's too late to join, I won't lose any sleep over it.

You've been put in the draw, Dion. People will start planning their rounds. No turning back now.
See you in the final. (I suppose you expect the 17pt AndyP to turn up to Brookwater).
How about you get home advantage and we play at City GC? I've got a real bad record there. ;)

But if you like I will aim for between 8 and 9 to suit the travellers, but not be so late that the whole day is gone for us locals.

I didn't take it as a given, because I know you aren't a great fan of the course.
But I guess once more and more put their name down, it was unlikely that you wouldn't play.

This is a great turnout for what should be a great day.

    Not happy
  There's a reason why only one club in the Southern Hemisphere is run by women

Just rang McLeod to see if the timesheet is out, not expecting it to be, as they had previously told me it would be out tomorrow, but I wanted to see if I could pre-book.
"Sure, it's here. Came out last Saturday."
:smt013 :smt013

As a result, I've had to grab six groups wherever I could, and throw some dummy names in there. (Tee times only run to about 8, then start up again at 10:30. There was only one full group left in the later block.)

Here are the tee slots that I ended up grabbing:

1st Tee:
6:48
10th Tee:
6:54
7:00
7:18
7:24
7:30

At least that's what I have been told anyway.
I might need to pay the club a visit this weekend to confirm for myself, and tidy up the names.
I have been told it will probably be $10. If it is more, it won't be much more.

cazandpaul, could you please PM me your full name?
PeterRs, same for you please?
Choppa, could I please have your mate Scott's full name also?

Time to let me know if you can't make it. Perhaps a later time separate to the rest of the groups might suit a few of you.

Like my day hasn't been freakin' stressful enough.

Cheers

Hmmm, off the 10th again for most of us. Could this be a good omen?

Andy,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I count 22 names. That still leaves room for me, if you were able to get 6 groups. :D :D

Sorry to leave my booking so late. We have a foursomes championship at Carbrook on the 16th and I don't fancy pairing up in foursomes with my old man in his current form.

I need to reply to a PM from Macleod but we may also be a possibility for a matchplay round that day if he's up for it.

I'm guessing that this is a confirmation that you are in, Peter. Are you playing your matchplay against Jarro?

I would advise that you book a cart.

A-Lo has requested to play in Kee's group, who is playing against Choppa, who is playing with his mate, Scott. So that group already has four, unless A-Lo want to change groups.

OK Jarro u have a life line, if we play match play.

Last two comps

Keperra lost 0.5
Middle Ridge lost 1.6 (42pts and won the day)

I broke my Middle Ridge Comp Curse-took a new approach if I'm going to be in trouble make it deep trouble-driver on every 4 and 5, I went straight through one of the server right dog legs by 100m (normally 4/5 iron) lucky no one was on the green on the otherside of the dog leg. For some reason I sore a whole new side of the course.

As for the cart I won't know until the day depends how she wakes up.

Andy- does that mean we r all off the 10th

Just looked at your golflink. 15 shot difference between the two days at Middle Ridge! What's going on there?

Another question re your golflink record. If you were off 24.3, 24.4 for the two days, why does it say you played off 25? Did Keperra not get the card in early enough for you to check before the weekend? Is this allowed? I would have thought that you would be disqualified. :?

Andy- does that mean we r all off the 10th
Yes, it does.

P.S It appears that a couple of players have been practising on the course leading upto the event. Is this allowed for OZgolf days? ;)

I thought one of them should be fairly obvious.

peter_rs
11th April 2005, 12:37 PM
AndyP- Just notice that too.

The golflink system was down on the weekend so we could not check. I used 25 as that was what I was on the week before. Forgeting about the 38pts at kep think the CRR was low for 47pts to win so I would no lose a shot.

I rang the pro shop & the club house to ask. The pro said the rounds should be DQ, but he didn't know with golflink being down, I may get a break. The guy in the club house said the results had already be entered and golflink would handle it.

What does an "A" mean beside a golf link score- my last two have it which where on the wrong hcp.

Maybe I spoke to soon about the middle ridge curse, so does that mean I get the 1.6 shoots back?

AndyP
11th April 2005, 12:50 PM

The "A" means that an ad-hoc score has been entered. So I think Middle Ridge have forced GolfLink to accept that you played off 25 for those two rounds. So unless they make some sort of other adjustment, the 1.6 shots lost will stand. (Blakey seems to know this sort of stuff).

As to the DQ, I would have thought that this was a club decision, not Golflink.

peter_rs
11th April 2005, 01:01 PM
The 15 shot change was finding a driver swing(getting away from the tee). I actual putted better on sat 32 instead of 35. Also sat was the pro-am so the course was a little harder and longer.

The only reason I ask about the DQ- Because the score is on golflink I have not been DQ by club. The next point is a sore spot. not only did I have 42pts it appears I "won" the day. The next person was on 40. So I would have still better them with a adjusted card. So do I ring the club and enforce the DQ & get back the hcp shots, or let sleeping dogs lie and take the hcp drop.

Are there morals in golf?

markTHEblake
11th April 2005, 02:02 PM
The Kepperra score that reduced your handicap to 24 might not have been posted to Golflink until after you played at Toowoomba. Thats why its sometimes OK to play off a handicap that is not technically correct.

However i think we can say that didnt occur, as you would have an A next to your name for backdated scores. I can vouch for that as i had a score entered as "A" that was done about 2 weeks after i played the round and it meant i was ripped off on my handicap by a shot for a while (and it cost me a comp prize). yuo can see that on my recent golflink history.

As for whether or not you should be DQ from Toowoomba, the answer is No. the competition has been closed, disputes etc cannot be settled after the results have been declared. Except in extreme circumstances AFAIK, and that might be something like when the Golf Union becomes involved at State National or International level.

your handicap was only adjusted by the difference based on a handicap of 24 so you were not disadvantaged by playing off 25.

if you feel guilty make a special request to DQ yourself and give your prize back. However note that a DQ doesnt absolve yourself from handicap reductions, they still stand.

as for the moral issue, well you would have to be an idiot to say " ok i will play off 20 today becuase golf link is down". This happens everywhere and you queried before you played didnt you. dont feel any guilt, you didnt do anything wrong. though i am surprised you dont check golflink everyday like the rest of us internet heads do.

peter_rs
11th April 2005, 02:14 PM
Is that why I have the "A" mean besides my last two rounds with the wrong hcp.

So basicly take it and run. So in reality I should have been DQ before they entered the score, once entered its not easy to change- That is a loop hole for cheaters if the guy doing the entering is not watching.

Thanks for the info blakey.

AndyP, What is the story with the course, I was speaking to a long time member yesterday who said it was in the worst condition he can remember in 10years.

No grass on the fairways, no rough to speak of and the greens are ok at best.

The rain will obviously do great things for the course but I hope it does not turn it into a mud pit, that would be a real shame.

This is an under rated layout, I hope it is not as bad as he says.

I am still looking forward to it, hope I can continue my form from the last outing in the Wynnum Cup. See you all there.

That's disappointing. :(
I last played there in January, so can't really comment on the current condition.

I have just spoken to a fellow OZgolfer who has played it in the last week, and he also believes it is getting worse, in particular the greens. Apparently the fairways are OK, but the rough is as you say, almost non-existent.

Perhaps the ladies don't put too much importance on the men's events. :smt102

Just like to thank my playing partners Shavey, CobraSS & 990B Luva for a fun day :smt023
The golf was very ordinary on my part, but it was good to watch the match between Shavey & CobraSS go hole for hole. Well played guys and congrats to Shavey on the win =D>

I took one small bonus out of the day by picking up the NTP on the 12th 5 balls 8)

I didn't know you could win NTP if you didn't hand in a card :) Let's keep that one quiet..

I'm glad Eag's won something for the group as some mug beat me for the pro pin on 15... :( Only a matter of time Eag's before your driving range form carries across and then watch out!

Another thanks to Eags, Cobra and 990B for an enjoyable day. Good company and some great shots to match...

Loved the layout and look forward to playing it again now that I know where some of the hazards are :)

Looking forward to the McLeod Cup 2005!

Despite the DNF, I had a great day, accompanied by some great partners - Tezza, Peter, & Jarro.

Congrats to Jarro on the matchplay win.

Thanks to Tezza for putting the mozz on me, on the par 3 12th tee, our 3rd hole.
"Geez Dave. Two solid pars, sure you're a 20+ capper?"
Result? Tee shot OOB, 2nd shot flubbed onto the social tee, walked off with a 9.

I learnt heaps yesterday. I'm nearly as long with my 3 wood as a normal driver, feel free to abuse the group behind hitting up on you (non-ozgolfers), and don't forget the sunscreen.

Thanks Jarro for the game- even if you did try to claim it early(7th). "I told you all you had to do was say I was playing well".

I had a very bad day with the irons & it showed on the card 7,2x8 & a 9. With a total of 6 lost balls. 6 balls no wonder I had 100+.

Not that I hit my irons to bad just never expected to hit a 7 iron 153m up hill into wind. Davidp you did hit that 3 wood well. U were up with tezza driver and my 3 iron on the par 5 7th (tezza said 250m to carry water we were about 5m short). Great effort to play from the creek tezza.

Once again thanks to the guys for a good day. and to Jarro for winning- and if you want to lend shazza to sledge your next opp feel free to ask .

I got off to a flier in my title defence, parring the first five holes (could have been better), with some nice hitting. Got a couple of nice kicks into the water during the next few holes, and my game was never the same. Stopped feeling comfortable over the ball, and started to play some real shocking shots.
I don't think I choked, because I don't think anything changed mentally. :? It's got me baffled as to what changed.

McLeod played pretty tough for me on Saturday. I found that if I missed a green it was to the wrong side, leaving a nasty lofted chip that I would need to stop real fast. The fact that there was a bit of water about, especially around some of the greens, didn't help either. Lost 6 balls or more.

Thanks to Gaz, Moocow and Macca for the day. Shame we couldn't produce some better golf between us.

Was impressed with Gaz's bunker work on the day, he made several sand saves (let's ignore the fact that he was in them in the first place).
Was hard to track the other guy's rounds, as they were in a cart that seemed to be doing quite a bit of travelling.

Thanks to everyone else for coming, it was good to get 20 people there and have a good OZgolf atmosphere. Next year we'll try and get the groups all together, or have some off the front and back at the same time.
And thanks for humouring me by looking up at the honour board, at my request.
Looking forward to McLeod Cup 2006.
