I've made several outlandish statements in that post, Pete. Plenty of hope in each of them.

Have fun guys....

Kristian, do you have a handicap? Pup plays of low singles right?

Scottt
1st February 2010, 06:38 PM
Kristian: Pup got down to 2 at Oatlands, which plays a fair bit like Muirfield. get as many shots as you can and then two more. God speed.

ParMaster
1st February 2010, 06:38 PM
Kristian has no hcp. Although I'm thinking a handicap of 13 or 14 for him is fair.

Scottt
1st February 2010, 06:40 PM
Kristian: what are your last five scores and where were they played?

KristianJ
1st February 2010, 06:44 PM
Pup: Ignore the number I sent in the PM for a moment...

Scottt: Last round I played was 86 @ Ashlar (have shot 79 there before though), then before that was 81 @ Glenmore Heritage, 83 @ Windsor, and 68 through 15 holes at Penrith.

ParMaster
1st February 2010, 06:46 PM
Ok let an outsider decide. :)

I'm not fussed. But you better watch out Kristian, I don't just want to win, I want to absolutely annihilate you!

And like 160 at Cumberland!!

And like 160 at Cumberland!!

My back 9 was a shitload better than the front...can't remember for sure, but it was only about +4/+5 or so. That dickhead tee shot of mine on the 2nd killed any hope I had of being somewhat respectable.

If there is a reasonable way of approximating a handicap from previous scores, so be it. We'll ultimately decide before the 1st tee anyways.

Minor_Threat
1st February 2010, 06:49 PM
Based on those scores and if they were shot from the members tee I would give you a 13 hcp KJ.

Good luck mate, I hope you teach Pup a golfing lesson.. ;)

ParMaster

I wish I could come up with a retort to that MT, but I can't really say anything considering you've beaten me both times we've played..

KristianJ
1st February 2010, 06:53 PM
Pup and I have agreed on 13. Yes, it's the unlucky number, but stranger things have happened in golf.

ParMaster

Kristian will get 8 shots as I'm currently off 5. (Thanks for the fu.ck up golflink, you incompetent idiots.)

You guided me around NSW, and whenever I decided to not listen to your recommendations (and, to be honest, sometimes when I did listen), I crapped it up. That's a suitable retort IMO.

KristianJ

I bloody hope not...

BTW, Pup's dad won't be chauffeuring him to and from the venue. In an act of unrivalled sportsmanship, I volunteered to pick him up on the way to the course.

leave a penthouse on the seat when he gets in,
he will either have to carry his bag in front of the first 5 holes or forfeit

KristianJ
1st February 2010, 08:55 PM
I've just realised I have to fit his bag and buggy in my car as well. 2 Bridgey staff bags and 2 buggies might mean I need to lay my back seats flat.

So much bloody effort for a simple Ozgolf matchplay...but I'll probably face worse when Ozgolf Champs comes up.

ParMaster
1st February 2010, 09:30 PM
Well you won't have to do this too often Kristian considering you'll only be playing one game.

KristianJ
2nd February 2010, 07:28 AM
Bad news, followers...I've woken up with back spasms and I doubt I'll be able to swing a golf club in anger today. :( Will see if Pup and I can reschedule at such late notice, but the rest of my week is pretty packed.

So all this rambling could be rather anticlimatic.

Scottt
2nd February 2010, 07:49 AM
Get Pup to zap you with his TENS machine when you pick him up. Problem solved!

ParMaster
2nd February 2010, 12:37 PM
haha scott.

That tens machine works unusually well though. Kristian, if you do come over today I'll give you a zap of it! :) Should help a bit.

Kristian would you like to play this game tomorrow at Muirfield GC, say 3 p.m or so?

ParMaster
24th February 2010, 08:45 PM
Bump Kristian.

KristianJ
24th February 2010, 08:52 PM
No can do, Pup...can't get away from work that early unless I've planned ahead at least a week. If it could be either next Thur or the Thur after at the same time (probably the Thur after - 8 March), I could make something happen.

ParMaster
24th February 2010, 08:58 PM
Next Tuesday probably suits me better, however I can do next Thursday if that is better for you.

KristianJ
25th February 2010, 11:00 AM
Pup, just checked with the powers that be...next week is probably out of the question - Thur 11th would be the earliest I could get away early, so if that day at around 3:30 is doable for you, we can lock that in.

3oneday
25th February 2010, 11:05 AM
This looking like getting played before Page 5 yet ?

KristianJ
25th February 2010, 11:42 AM
I'm supremely confident it'll be done before Yoss and adlo have their mano a mano thingy, Pete, egardless of how many pages of tripe are posted.

Thur 11th at 3:30pm Pup is hosting me & CoffsHacker at NSWGC. Room for a 4th probably, but we're likely only gonna get 12 holes in....

I'm not taking Pup on in matchplay on his home turf! He wouldn't need more than 12 to belt me, I reckon.

And yes, I just remembered that 11/3's going to be a no go as well. Maybe if there is room for the 4th person, I could make it and forgo any sense of neutrality for the sake of getting this match over and done with.

BrisVegas
25th February 2010, 01:10 PM
weren't you planning to take the 12th off to play Twin Creeks & Riverside Oaks ?

KristianJ
25th February 2010, 01:42 PM
Yep, I still am...I can probably stretch it to a day and a half/2 days off though.

ParMaster
25th February 2010, 02:37 PM
Kristian as BV has said I can't do that day. How does the tuesday of that week sound to you? So like the 8th or 9th of March?

We need to lock a date in..

KristianJ
25th February 2010, 04:41 PM
Well, I can possibly squeeze in 4/3 from about 3:30pm...I was reminded that the boss is away for the week next week, and next Thur could be the best time to sneak out early.

Otherwise, I'll need to try and pull something out of the hat for either 16 or 18/3, which might end up being too late. :?

ParMaster
25th February 2010, 04:59 PM
4/3 is next thursday? Nothing wrong with that for me.

We setting it in stone? 3:30, next thursday, Muirfield GC?

KristianJ
25th February 2010, 05:14 PM
Yes on all counts. I'll even edit the thread title to lock it in, Eddie.

ParMaster
25th February 2010, 05:19 PM
Good, now don't injure yourself. :)

KristianJ
25th February 2010, 05:22 PM
Ditto...I wouldn't want to see you strain something going for 210m straight as a gun barrel ;)

ParMaster
25th February 2010, 05:25 PM
I'll just take 3i instead and smooth it the 210, rather than bash the 4i that far.

;)

KristianJ
25th February 2010, 05:29 PM
You gots smartz. :p

KristianJ
25th February 2010, 08:04 PM
BTW, assuming I get my forthcoming shafts in time, I'm yet to decide whether to put the 9015D in for reshafting whilst this match happens. I'm wary about the ghey fade returning.

ParMaster
25th February 2010, 08:10 PM
:D

Murfield actually suits a little fade matey, so keeping that ghey fade in your reportoire isn't such a bad idea..

KristianJ
25th February 2010, 08:17 PM
Nah...much rather kill it. :) I'll have a quick range session before I drive up to Katoomba tomorrow, and try to get some video of the remoulded upper body work in the driver swing that seemed to work well a couple of days ago. Plus I plan to pay attention to my wrist position, which I didn't think about last time.

However, I shan't be providing commentary regardless of the outcomes :p

ParMaster
25th February 2010, 08:22 PM
Nah leave that to me. Shot by shot commentary even.

;)

KristianJ
25th February 2010, 08:26 PM
I'm bringing my camera with me to Muirfield then...I can put on a Feherty accent and provide some play by play commentary for a few of your shots. You can be McCord and reciprocate

ParMaster
25th February 2010, 08:27 PM
Who do I play in the next round?

KristianJ
1st March 2010, 09:48 AM
Someone.

To be honest Pup, after my crapola last Friday and your form over the weekend, you're a shoe in. Can't wait until the end of my cricket season so I can finally get the membership and the time to get to weekend comps, so I can have more regular playing opportunities.

KristianJ
1st March 2010, 08:34 PM
Oh, and how are the ankles doing?

ParMaster
1st March 2010, 08:41 PM
Just my left ankle. It's Ok but bad after I skip.

KristianJ
1st March 2010, 08:51 PM
How about getting to the course...will you need a lift? Just so I can sort out when I leave work, that's all. It would probably be 2:30 at the earliest when I can get away from there.

KristianJ
2nd March 2010, 06:11 PM
Pup, you'll probably hate this...

My cricket team made our comp's grand final this weekend, and the only day that most of the team's available for a pre-final training session is Thursday arvo. So it looks like my plans to get over to Muirfield have been dashed for now.

The odds of me forfeiting are getting shorter unless we can get a game somewhere in between our houses, I reckon :?

KristianJ
2nd March 2010, 06:25 PM
Okay, I just chatted to my brother - this session's got a 50/50 chance of happening, so he'll let me know ASAP what's happening. So the match is still on unless my brother tells me the training session's on.

ParMaster
3rd March 2010, 03:59 PM
...

Updates Kristian??

I can really only play this at Muirfield, considering I really have no way of getting out west. And No I don't need a lift this time. :)

KristianJ
3rd March 2010, 05:38 PM
Session looks like it's on...I'm racking my brain trying to think of the next available date this month. To be honest though, unfortunately I see this being a walkover for you, mate.

ParMaster
3rd March 2010, 06:41 PM
Jesus. I can only do Thursdays, and next Thursday is out.

KristianJ
3rd March 2010, 06:59 PM
Well, unless we can definitely 1000% seal in 18 March, I'm going to just let you through...you're the one with the handicap already, and it's just too bloody hard for me to do anything else without one, plus I can't always guarantee that I'll be able to get out of work early on the weekday arvos.

Annoying, I know - but that's just how I see it realistically. Plus I've been taking my cricket seriously for the past 5-6 months and because it's a grand final this weekend, I've got to give that priority.

ParMaster
3rd March 2010, 07:10 PM
Come to think of it, I can get off school the next 2 tuesdays at 1 p.m. How does that suit?

I'm not sure 18th March will work, I think I have physio that day (after 15 years on the stupid hospital system waiting list). ;)

KristianJ
3rd March 2010, 07:13 PM
I've got an "appointment" at Dunheved next Tue, but the Tue after that (16th) will be fine for a 3:30pm tee off.

But if that falls through for whatever reason, I think that will be my falling on the sword.

ParMaster
3rd March 2010, 07:19 PM
What time is Dunheved Kristian, and who you playing with?

KristianJ
3rd March 2010, 07:21 PM
4:30 (4:15 at a push), and I'm going to be there with one of the ISG members. Could be posting about it here as well...

ParMaster
3rd March 2010, 07:24 PM
Hmm. I'll ask my dad, see what he says.

I would like to finish the 18 holes, but I'd still kick your ass after like 12 holes. So we could finish our match in time realistically.

Grunt
3rd March 2010, 07:26 PM
Won't get finished though if we start that late.
That does not exude confidence, I thought you were going to whip him?

KristianJ
3rd March 2010, 07:28 PM
What Grant said...I doubt it'd go the distance, really.

ParMaster
3rd March 2010, 07:48 PM

Peer pressurised wanker.

Personally I'd rather do the Muirfield journey and just have the 2 of us - would be more time effective not having anybody else in the group, plus maximise the chances of getting all 18 in just in case something does go right with my overall game.

KristianJ
16th March 2010, 08:24 AM
6 hours till tee off...I'm confident that it won't be an 8 and 7 romp by Pup, and hopeful that if I do bring my A game, it will eb a close encounter. My only real strategy will be to keep the ball as close to SAAGB as possible and ignore my opponent wherever possible. :p

KristianJ
16th March 2010, 12:06 PM
Hehe...well, I do sincerely hope it doesn't hamper you too much, mate. Muirfield doesn't seem like the sort of track where it'll be too taxing in terms of the walk around.

Oh, and I will be wearing my Ozgolf polo. Not that it really will have an effect on my game, of course...:p

ParMaster
16th March 2010, 01:51 PM
I'm leaving now and I'm in my school clothes. :)

KristianJ
16th March 2010, 06:50 PM
Interesting afternoon to say the least...

I turned up at Muirfield at 3:20, got my stuff out and wheeled my buggy up to the clubhouse, only to be told that the course was closed. The greens were being worked on and the main carpark was being reasphalted, but the gates were still open and no real indication that it was closed. So when Pup and his chauffeur dad turned up, we ended up convoying to the 9 holer at Parramatta. Step down from what we were expecting to play, but given our more casual approach to dressing for the day, it would suffice.

What followed was a seesawing affair. A comfortable hole win by Pup on the 1st was followed by a hole win by myself, albeit with a fortuitous semi-topped 53* wedge shot that stayed low and landed only 2 or 3 metres from the pin.

Pup worked his way to being 4 up with 5 holes to play, before I won the next 3 holes with a mix of reasonably good golf and some luck by virtue of Pup missing a couple of short putts to halve 2 of the holes (quirks with the green as opposed to Pup choking).

We went to the 18th with Pup 1 up, and a course staff member threw a spanner in the works by removing the flag. In the end, I couldn't get up and down from the back of the green, and Pup was able to secure a 2 up victory with a simple 2 putt par.

We then sacrificed a couple of balls and had a bit of a long drive comp thingy. I demonstrated that the ghey fade was well and truly dumped, and that I could SAAGB it with the best of them.

Overall, I was pretty happy with most of my effort, and pleased that it wasn't decided until the final hole. A match played in fine spirit, and Pup had the consistency to make it through to the next round. :)

16th March 2010, 06:55 PM
Sounds like a great game fellas. Congrats Pup!

Did you see my name on the Honour Board there? ;) lol

ParMaster
16th March 2010, 07:03 PM
Well I had a fun day, except for the sidesplitting headache.

I can't really add much to what Kristian said, except that he really is a bomber now with that Callaway! Kristian didn't play bad at all, but a couple of really shit shots held him back from that win.

Thanks MT. :)

KristianJ
16th March 2010, 07:17 PM
Admittedly, 2 of those shit shots were with the Callaway. Both dribbling pull hook type things, one of which nearly killed an innocent bird, and the other hit the underside of a car on the road of the left side of the 4th fairway. Plus I somehow shanked a wedge on the 4th the second time around from a near impeccable fairway lie, which I could have potentially gotten up and down if I'd not thought that it'd hit a car (Pup found the ball on the way to the 5th tee).

And MT, couldn't see any honour boards - we didn't go anywhere near the clubhouse.

Congratulations to both players for making some pretty determined efforts to get the game played. Well done.

It took awhile, but we got there in the end. ;)

KristianJ
16th March 2010, 09:18 PM
It did indeed...never thought that the final twist in the tale would be a venue change though. :)

Parra's probably an OK place for practising instead of heading to a driving range, but nothing too crash hot. Middle of the road in terms of the 9 holers I've played in the Sydney area IMO.
