My Australia Day round was spent at the par 3 course at Penrith Panthers. Hardly a fellow golfer in sight, so I got through nice and quickly.

Scorecard's in the car, so I'll update the stats in a couple of hours, but here are some:

Score: 59 (par 54)
2 birdies, 10 pars, 5 bogeys, 1 double bogey
Highlights: 9 iron from 134m on the 3rd landing about 40cm from hole, and a near perfect draw 6 iron from about 169m that landed 2m behind the hole. Both birdied.

The greens were in rather average condition, and more what you'd see an average to good fairway look like. They looked extremely lush, but the grass was a couple of millimetres too long with a few bare patches and strands of kikuyu coming through the couch. A greenkeeper was mowing a few of them as I went around, so a few rolled more evenly than others.

In the end though, I was reasonably happy with my ball striking and focus, considering the heat and humidity of western Sydney today.

39 pts at Nudgee today. Played really well for 16 holes before falling in a heap on the last 2, finishing wipe wipe. Of the 16 holes I completed I had 11 pars, 3 bogeys and 2 doubles. 38 on the front with 13 putts. 46 on the back if I take trips for each wipe. Pretty happy with how I played for most fo the day.8 fairways and 4 greens.

Played in the Aus Day Cup with fellow members but non posters Giants7, Little Dougo and Bluescooter.

Bluescooter shot the lights out for 22 points on the front before hurting himself and struggling.
Little Dougo hacked his way around for 27.
Giants 7 won C Grade and a shiny new Odyssey with 39 points.

I had 33 and thought I played better than that...

A new odyssey for C grade? Nice work to Giants 7. That's a good prize.

Also Petey and Kristian good scoring guys. 10 or more pars and I'm very happy

St Andrews Beach today.

28 points with 5 wipes and 5 pars.
Best day with the driver for a while. Those 100m wide fairways inspire a bit of confidence.

Flav

Was $40 entry for visitors and $30 for members (including lunch and a couple of beers), so it was a fair whack entry fee. The prizes were pretty good though.

As he is using my ex-Jono Craz-e CS and shooting the lights out, I've already claimed first dibs on the newbie!

Shot a 95 gross, 68 net. (playing off 27 for now) but it was a casual round so it wont go towards my HCP.

Info below, courtesy of GolfShot: Golf GPS...

it wasnt a 43pt Stableford score... it was like 39, i think its calculating my HCP wrong or somethin...

http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/7651/75064123.pngHighlights, natural birdie on the 4th after a shocking 1st/2nd... missed a few birdie putts and made a few 3 putts even a 4putt.

Sand save on the 18th, Bunker shot was to within 10cm of the hole... loving my wedge play after i took a lesson on friday. Ive played one other time and scored 96.

Mate, that's all over the place for 27. Indexes 10-12 are wrong as par as points go. It's put you off 30. Index 13 seems ok though, so are you sure you didn't have 40 points? Net 68 on a par 72 sounds like 40 points to me.

Nice one rhino. Well played all.

I shot 33 points at NSWGC today, but I didn't do anything great. I started double, bogey, double so it's not too bad after that start.

Anyway I had a chipping lesson from the pro, so lets see how my new technique goes in the next couple of weeks.

Well I have a few scores to catch up on.

I recently got back from a trip down south where I played a few times on a couple of different courses.

I played Corowa 4 times and shot 39pts, 38pts, 32pts and 36pts.

I also ventured to Rich River to play 36 holes socially in 42 degrees heat. This course was in tip top condition for this time of year and I enjoyed it a lot.

For the first 18 I had 2 over and I played the best golf that I ever had on a reasonably tough course. On the second 18 I had something like 22 over but I was very tired.

Today was my first round back since arriving home and as I hate playing in 4balls me and a few others played socially early thismorning.

I now have a new personal best round of even par 71. This consisted of 5 birdies, 9 pars, 3 bogies and a double.

6 Fairways.
12 GIR.
29 putts.

It was just one of those days where I couldn't do anything wrong and got lucky a few times.

Junior pennats start in 2 weeks so it will be good to play on some different courses for a change.

I had a game today at Royal Sydney GC and I don't really know how to describe my round except weird.

I didn't hit the ball like I normally do, I was swinging all weird and different, but my scoring was fine. I shot +6 with 2 double bogies (1st and 18th), and had a couple of birdies here and there. I hit 3 fairways (2 with driver) out of 14, so I was hitting shots from obscure parts of the course.

If only I bogied the last hole I would have won 60 dollars, so I'm pissed off about that (refer to things that piss you off thread). ;)

Well I'm back to school tomorrow, so that pisses me off aswell.

First round of the Summer Cup at reddy bay today. Very blowey most of the round, and showering this afternoon (sure glad I played in the morning). Finished with an 89/74. Played solidly except for a 9 on 14 (Bladed iron into hazard, and then my drop bounced into a divot :( ). Vs par event today

+3

+4 on the back where we started. Par, three boges then 1 under the last 5 for a two over 38.

-1 on the front, double, three pars, boge, boge, par, boge par for a 5 over 40 and 78 off the stick and would have been 40pts in stabe.

Mate off 16 went ballistic on the back, 2 over for +5 but back to back birds on holes he got a stroke went unrewarded in this game.

Hit 80 net. Missed only three fairways and greens in total. Hit the driver and irons longer than usual. Landed behind the greens/past the pins 14 times. 4 bunkers required 12 shots in total. 42 putts with birdies on 1, 2, 17 and 18. Missed three other 4 footers for birdies.

I haven't had a chance to practise with the new putter config. I was amazed at how well I jave been striking the ball in the last two rounds since retiring the S59s and getting back to the blades.

Today's poor round was can be attributed to poor bunker play as I had tried to finess them all out. The putter let me down due to distance control. The strong windy conditions did not really affect the ball as it was against us most of the time but still left the ball too long. The Vines have very large undulating greens with up to a three club differential. Some greens are around fifty to sixty metres across.

Amazing that I can have such a bad score but still think I struck the ball better than I have done off late.

Stab at Mirboo.

Got very unlucky on the 1st when my ball hit a hose and jumped sideways 30ms right under a tree. Wipe.
Got it together a bit after that with a nice little string from 4 to 11 where I birdied 8 and 11. I got to the 16th tee with 35 points in my pocket. Finished with 36 :(
Totally gassed it.

I payed with Eag's, Daves and kpac at Nudgee North. My goal today was to get my confidence back in my chipping and putting, and I think I can safely say mission accomplished. I was missing some very long putts by inches, and after a while they started to drop.

Driver cost me a few shots, as did a bit of poor luck. I had more than my share of shanks as well - two in succession on the last. I was tearing up the back nine for a while, but ended up with "only" 19 points for the nine even with a 1-0-1 finish. Choke much? 15 points on the front for 34 total.

So 16 points through 6 holes?

17 points on my count. 3-3-2-2-4-3-1-0-1 was the way the points fell. I only just missed the putts on the 2-pointers as well; tap-ins basically. The last 3 holes sucked a bit. Bad luck missing a green and resting on a root on 16. Drive on 17 was smoked over the corner, but just not high enough and clipped a stray branch, landing 1-inch from the tree trunk. 18 I just screwed up. Two shanks will do that. Lucky to get a point.

44 points yesterday to win the comp. Only 26 putts which makes a huge difference - they were going in from everywhere!

Nice shooting, Tex. What's the new handicap?

Haysey has all teh good ones, but here's the only one I took during a break in the rain: Chopper71 retreiving his ball from where the 4th fairway used to be.

Oops my bad, I read 1-1-1 for some reason.

You can't help bad luck in golf. I had a shocking run which has finally stopped. The positive thing is that your good golf is well above your handicap. Keep it up. You need confidence, fwend.

I should also mention that I pinged myself for the ball moving just as I hit a short putt on 9. It's almost like a double-penalty because it hit the toe and missed the hole, plus the penalty. Was a wipe.

If you have already started the swing, I don't believe there is a penalty, young Henno.

37pts at Nudge today 19/18 with 1 wipe on the back.

3 GIR
6/15 FIR
26 putts

7 pars
9 bogeys
2 doubles

Short game was very solid, driver wasn't too bad, most of my misses were only a metre or two off the short stuff. Tried to get too greedy a couple of times and fly the corners on the doglegs and paid the penalty but was generally happy with the way I swung the driver.

Not too much good except for the purist 4i I have ever hit on the 17th 200m Downhill Par 3 to 7 feet from the Pin!. Horrible downhill putt left though. if the greens were any faster it would have been impossible, back swing of 1" put it a foot past the hole!

No, i'd like it to be as low as i can go. I only just got back out to 12 (11.5). And with matchplay against sms next week that got me one extra shot. I did say to Just on the 14/15th hole that I had better start to throw the anchor out if i didn't want to lose shots. Had 3-2-3-2-3-2-2-1-3 on the back nine.

My previous lowest was 10.4... itching to get lower!

Pile of stinking animal waste today. -7 great for stroke but massive suck when it was a par event. 1 fairway all day, 36 putts, more visits to the sand than Lawrence Of Arabia and even managed to hook my attempt to put a wedge back in the bag from 20 metres.

Shot 84 off the stick in yesterday's stroke event at Moree. Best gross score since April 09. It's about time I had something other than 0.1 back. It equated to 67 net but didn't stick around for presentation as our round already took 4.5 hours with no break at halfway and the pregnant wife was keen to get some help.

Highlight of the round was 3 pars then 2 birdies from the 4th through to the 8th. I then bogeyed the par 5 9th, after reasonable tee and 2nd shots, to finish with 39 round the front. Stuffed what could have been a new low round as I preceded to take 45 shots round the back, including a triple on the 13th.

Had 40 points in the comp on Friday and 37 today. Got my first ever eagle.:D Par 4. Drive up the middle, 7 iron from 150m, always looked like it was going to be all over the pin, landed 5 feet past and spun back in.

The crowd went wild..............:smt038

I did anyway.

Was a mixed bag though. Two wipes, two birds, the eagle, couple of 1 pointers. Had the works.

Not great. A few interesting holes, and drive placement is important or you get blocked out here and there, and generally very good condition for a course that gets the traffic it does.

Played Royal Freo today with Yoss.

I hit the ball well. First full round with the new driver/shaft combo and hit it great. 10/12 fairways with the driver. My best in a fair while. The hard and fast, small greens proved difficult to conquer, as I missed a heap of GIR and struggled to get up and down. I didn't putt badly, but had 20 putts on the front, thankfully recovered with 15 putts on the back.

35 points.
10/14 FW
4 GIR
1 bird

Royal Freo is a good layout. I have enjoyed my last few rounds there a fair bit. Getting around in 3.5 hours on a Sunday is rare. God bless quiet, private tracks.

What's the track like, Aldo? We had a group go there a few years back for R. Freo's centenary and the guys say it was a pretty enjoyable place.

It is a pretty solid parklands layout. Very undulating, a good mix of lengths and straight/dogleg left/dogleg right.

It is being slowly renovated, mainly around the greens. The old greens are typically very flat and small. The new greens are larger (but still on the small side) and have much more movement. Sometimes a bit overdone IMO. Greens are a little below the standard of Hartfield, Mt Lawley, Yokine etc.

The fairways are kikiyu. There is ample width. Bunkering is used sparingly, but then sometimes overdone (like totally blocking out a running shot into the only reachable par 5 in two- what is with that?). Some of the mounds are very clumsy too.

So apart from the odd mickey mouse moment, it is a good, fun place for golf. Great condition and not a boring stretch of holes to be found. If I could add anything I would add a short par 4 or two, and a more reachable par 5. The course is set up well for the predictable sea breeze. Blows across on the front 9 and on the back 9 you play either with a tailwind or directly into the breeze.

When you make it to Perth we'll head there for a hit. I have full reciprocals, which is nice.

Having played both I would say that Cott is better - except for 2 pretty ordinary par threes .... both are enjoyable tracks though ...

I too concur that Royal Perth would qualify more easily than Royal Freo for worst in the world !
