It is custom for the host of the Wynnum Cup to start a thread or two asking how to play certain holes.

The 10th hole is the starting hole for 80% of this year's field so I have decided to go with it. The 10th is a blood sucking son-of-a-bitch which if you aren't carefull will rip a shot or two from your score to start your day. This hole is a piddly 276m and gun-barrell straight. However, out of bounds is to the left (not to mention a car or two) and sufficient flora on the right to cause untold damage, especially as more OOB lurks just beyond the green.

This year I am thinking a bunted iron/wedge combo is required. Especially with the peanut gallery sitting on the practice green which is only 10m behind the tee.

So, what is your plan of attack?

Driver OOB left. Reload with hybrid, wedge, 1-putt, "dirty birdie".

Topped 3W that bounces out of the creek into the fairway. Hybrid short of green. Chip on, easy 10' putt for par.

The last 3 times I have played this bloody hole I have hit hybrid, lobby over the back, unplayable #-obut each time I made a 5.

Top a 3-wood bouncing it out of the front gully, another 3-wood short of the green, pitch up to 5 ft and make par.

Was this a comment made on the Saturday night of the Champs?

usually my first drive of the day is one of my best, but my bad one is a block.

Even though i cant recall ever having any trouble on this hole before, and i rarely hit anything but driver, i am considering that the bunkers are protecting the RHS of the green making a chip and run from the right trees impossible, so i will taking that out of play.

Girly shirt lifting flossy bunt with the bitch stick for me.

Anything right is pretty much kaka Blake. You are correct about the run up not being an option. The lies over there aren't fantastic which makes a high floppy a dangerous shot with the fence being pretty close to the back of the green.

Driver, 1-putt. ahh the memories.

Hybrid or 5 iron followed by another iron and then 2 putt.

just
24th January 2010, 08:07 PM
And whatever you do, don't park your red Porsche next to the 10th Tee.

Jarro

Will all this happen under the cover of your umbrella just ?

Indeed, my Smoothy umbrella with the extra length shaft and high MOI square shape.

Dunno, it's two weeks away, and the plan isn't done yet.

Driver, skull 58 degree over the green out of bounds, drop and hit same club to a couple of feet than tap in bogey. Worked last year

A push into the trees on the left. Hack it out with a short iron. Chip on and 2 putts and I will be happy:lol:

Depends if Hux and I are playing match play or not. Wouldn't want to give away too many secrets too early. ;-)

Your only plan needs to be "sit back and see which Hux turns up to play". It could either be the Net 60-odd burglar or the Gross 100 chopper.

Gross 100 chopper or copper?

Iain

4 iron, wedge.

henno
25th January 2010, 08:26 AM
4 iron, wedge.

Isn't that your play for every hole? (Minus the 4-iron on the par 3s)

You could caddy for SMS in the interest of peace prior to matchplay.

Where's the fun in that? :)

Lucasto23
25th January 2010, 11:27 AM
Driver off the tee and see what we have to deal with then :(

Daves

Well we had an update on the right approach for the 10th today. It seems (for a lefty) that a big push towards the out of bounds fence, then a hacked chip and run across the green, and a pigs arse putt from off the green back for a bird is the now accepted method for handling this hole.:mrgreen:

Eag's
29th January 2010, 11:15 PM
How about a dropkick driver, half wedge to 15 feet, two putt par :)

henno
29th January 2010, 11:17 PM
How about skulling an iron into the creek, only for it to hit a turtle (or something!) and magically end up on the fairway.

Eag's
29th January 2010, 11:19 PM
 PeteyD found one of those turtles on the 18th today ;)

PeteyD
29th January 2010, 11:19 PM
Nah, the lefty birdie today was special.

PeteyD

 PeteyD found one of those turtles on the 18th today ;)

It was probably the same one I hit on the 10th last time out!

henno
29th January 2010, 11:27 PM
No wonder you're winning the handicap bet. You've clearly paid off the turtles.

Daves

Nah, the lefty birdie today was special.

It was, shame it wasn't me:cry:

Did any of us actually hit the fairway? (at any stage?)

PeteyD
30th January 2010, 04:55 PM
Yes, I hit hybrid up the center before totally stuffing the second shot.

henno

gazgolf1

Lucasto23

PeteyD

The fat 4 iron was pretty special though. Almost as good as the fat practice swing!

Pull hybrid under tree. Left handed back of 6 iron to fairway. Wedge on 2 putt crapolla.

Hux

AndyP

Solid 3 wood for first shot in a couple of weeks, but a little right and finds rough. 9I (I think) to back left of green. Pump first putt past the hole. Nail the tester back. Par.

16 degree driver / PW / one putt
And I hope that 33cm holds up for the NTP !
