I know this conflicts with the Hartfield Summer Cup, but I told them that I would post this.

2 days, Black Tees, Stroke. $70 entry fee. Graded prizes and 4 NTPs each day.

The last few times this was held they had some very nice prizes.

The wife was not pleased about Valentine's Day golf, but certain things just can't be missed!

Scores:
Day One:
JC 85 net 81
Yoss 100 net 77
Aldo 89 net 75
TourFat: 94 net 85

Day Two:
JC 78 net 74
Yoss 99 net 76
Aldo 100 net 86
TourUnFit 85 net 76

I know I said I would play the Hartfield Summer Cup, but this interests me more, and nothing has been booked in for the Summer Cup yet.

Can you book me in with your good self, Cwazy Curling Canadian?

I'll put you in when I am down there next week. Not sure if I need to pay with the entry, I'll let you know.

The KB Classic has been quality in the past, attracting some decent golfers. Last time
Nick Crundall dominated.

The greens are starting to roll very nice again after their recent core.

adlo
13th February 2010, 07:26 PM
Round 1 wasn't pretty. The wind kicked in on the back 9 and was severe. JC hit a 6 iron all of 110 yards down 18!

Adlo & Yoss were off to a flying start around the front 9, but a 14 for Yoss on hole 13 ended his hopes. I played steady golf, but too many double bogeys on the back 9 in pretty tough conditions and hitting mid-long iron approach shots all day. The CCR will be 75-76, some good scores in early as the morning weather was beautiful.

Adlo 89/75 (41 (with a triple on 9)/48 )
Yoss 100/77 (44/56)
JC 85/81 (39/46)
TourFat 95/85 (?)

That might be the closest I ever get to beating JC off the stick. Oh well.

Yossarian
13th February 2010, 07:28 PM
You played some really steady golf mate and that is a pretty impressive score given what we turned into on the back nine. JC continues to impress me, he was playing pretty average and still cards a 85!

That 14 sucked I thought I did pretty much everything well all day, just one damned hole!

adlo
13th February 2010, 07:30 PM
My first time sub 90 off the blacks, so I am very happy.

Look at the positives, you keep playing like that in stableford or par comps and the handicap will drop.

Yossarian
13th February 2010, 07:31 PM
True, stroke is gay.

TourFit
13th February 2010, 09:05 PM
I played just HORRIBLE...first time I've ever had three 8's on my card (and I had a 9 as well !!!).

Had a penalty drop on the first (ended up with 8), a penalty drop on 3, a lost ball (and subsequent drop) on 4 and almost lost the provisional too (took 9), was 125m out for two on eight, a Par 5, and needed three shots out of the trap (took an 8 again)...shot 48 for the front 9 in the better conditions!! :smt087

On the back I played relatively solid for the first couple of holes and then lost a ball off the 13th tee (Par 5), and also needed a penalty drop on 18 as well...

Shot 95 (48/47) for the day...84 Nett. That course is just penal off the blacks, and when the wind gets up it's batten down the hatches and hold on for dear life !!!

Can't be any worse tomorrow (can it???).

adlo
13th February 2010, 09:10 PM
I couldn't agree more, when the wind is up, batten down the hatches. The final 5 holes are so tough. 15 is a very demanding approach, 16 is into 3-5 clubs of wind, 17 needs 3 glorious blows and 18..... well, just try and hit that one in reg.

Yossarian
13th February 2010, 09:27 PM

bad luck mate! seriously!

you would of had a bloody good day out if that was a 7 or 8 even.

in the big picture Yoss, that's a good day out mate. that's why stroke is so hard sometimes it can bite you at any time. most days you would probably par or bogey that hole as well.

I am sure we all have our stories to tell. Well my story today is a painful one. 4 x 8s and 2 x 7s. Would have had a decent stableford score with 2 birdies and a handful of pars.

Hole of the day would be Wee Tap. Pin back left. Punched 5 iron slightly long and right. Try to putt up the bank. Bank feeds it right into the bunker at the back of the green. I commit to an aggressive LW out of the trap making sure I don't leave it in the bunker. Ball comes out OK but rolls off the (short part) of the green. I try to putt up the bank with my 4th shot. It rolls past the flag and BACK INTO THE SAME BUNKER. Aggressive LW again, this one sticks on the fringe (just). Putt onto the green and then miss a 4 footer for a 7. Tap in for an 8. Great success!!

I was over it by that point. I played with the single most annoying and depressing golfer of all time. I felt like leaving after 9 holes. However, despite my poor scoring, the course was just playing so nicely. Condition is A1.

I have to say, Kennedy Bay is the only course I have ever played that I can honestly say I would play every day for the rest of my life and be happy. The different tees, the pin placements, the different winds....... so awesome. Yet so penal in rough conditions.

I'll be back for the 2011 KB Classic, I suggest more OzGolfers do the same. For $70 we had 36 holes, lunch each day and some pretty decent prizes up for grabs.

Not really my very "helpful" playing partner located it in a matter of seconds. What happened next is a bit hard to describe but I ended up on the cart path behind the green. Other than that I played ok. I was only 7 over the card for the back nine to that point as well.

I missed it. Hit a beautiful 3h drawing in on the flag. Seriously the best shot I hit all day. Took a bounce left then rolled up...........and down the mound into the back LH trap and came to rest about 6 inches from the bunker wall.

To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I was very, very fortunate to somehow get the ball out and give myself a chance at an up and down for 4. Crazy.

Johnny Canuck
14th February 2010, 09:43 PM
I shot 78, not 76, but appreciate the help. Should have been much lower, a little disappointed.

Bogey on 8 after losing a ball, which I then found on the 9th tee.

Played a flop shot on 9 that ParMaster would have been proud of and then missed a 5 footer to par the front. Disappointed.

Needed 5 shots from 80 yards on 17. I hate sandy lies in the rough. I went straight to Pete after the round for some advice and will try out his suggestions.

He said you don't want to hit down on it. Great. I tried and failed twice by trying to punch shots to the green. If I need something to go 25 yards in a massive cloud of dust, I've got the shot.

The greens rolled great ZRW!

Yossarian
14th February 2010, 11:35 PM
Ok for JC. Forgive me if I wax a little lyrical here.

I walked onto 18 after handling the back nine pretty well. A triple bogey on 9 after being greenside in 2 could have killed me but I let it go pretty well. I then proceeded to play some good bogey golf with two pars. I almost birded 17 but left the putt about an inch short. So I was feeling pretty good walking onto 18 although the wind was starting to pick up.

I got off a pretty good drive, I've been working on a low controlled driver shot and it is paying off. I was left with about 200, I think, to the green. No way I am getting there. Decided to lay up well in front of the traps around the green and leave myself 100 in, hopefully get up and down at worst a bogey.

Go for the punch six iron. One of the few shots were I didn't check my line properly. Dick move. Blocked it out right into that big clump of trees about 100 from the green. ****!

Hit a second perfect, exactly where I want. At this stage the saga really begins. I remember thinking, gee it would be nice to not find that ball in there.

My group gets to the trees and I have a bit of a poke around. I think it was Neil goes barging in full of enthusiasm and finds the bloody thing in the middle of a tree. ****. We talk about my options. I decide to take a line back to the 10th fairway.

At this stage I made a stupid mistake. I hit a good shot just too far left. In hindsight I should have aimed way further right because there is no trouble there. Anywho they tell me I put that one into the trees so I reload and plonk one onto the middle of the green from 150 out.

Again I remember thinking gee it would be nice to not find that one in the bushes. Again I poke around a little and then Neil went in and found the ****ing thing again! I decided to try and chip out because I had a small opening and didn't really want to play from the range at this point because I would have had to play over about 30m of bush blind. So I have one in the bush. And I was still in the bush. So I swing even frigging harder. It ends up pretty much on the cart path behind the green. Completely ****ed. Dead. No chance of doing anything with it. I think Peter the pro rocked up at this point. We talked about it and I ended up taking a line back to the driving range where you hit balls from. I could even see the pin :)

Wedged over the shit nicely to about 12 feet. Left the putt an inch shot. Tap in for 11.

Gay!

14th February 2010, 11:38 PM
Wow imagine if I did a write up for every hole.

Johnny Canuck
15th February 2010, 12:09 AM
To me, the hardest shot on KB is the layup on 18. The wind is always howling and the preferred landing area is the narrowest point on the hole.

I was less scared hitting a 2 hybrid into the howling wind from 190m than I would have been if I was trying to hit an 8 iron 100m.

Earlier this year, I had 90m left on 18. I punched a nine and started it 10m right of the entire green.

I found it on the cart path and ended up on the range.

I was seriously pissed off because my ball travelled 90m forward and about 60m right to left on a punch nine.

That was the probably the best round I had ever played at KB. It was the round that I lost medal by a short, but NEIL forgot to sign his card. Sweet victory!

At KB, you have to tell guys where to look.

Today on 8, I told Willis, don't look past the bushline, and he stayed out of the rough for me. There are some spots on that course with nowhere to drop. See the bushes on the left side of 17 for example. If you find it, you'd better go back to where you last hit from. There are no other options.

Good work Yoss.

Just think, if you didn't stuff up those two holes, you could have dropped 3+ shots off your cap.

Aldo, glad to hear you took a manly approach out of the Wee Tap bunker. That overrides any score on the hole.

I know but I did and that is that. At least I get to keep two shot holes for a while longer :D
I think zig would probably welch on the bet anyway seeing as he has us all on ignore now.

He's going to have so many people on ignore that he'll be talking to himself.

Basically, nothing is going to change.

Thanks for the mention PF...

Played MUCH better yesterday than the disaster of Saturday !!!

Shot 40 on the front 9 (doubled both Par 5's) and was happy.

On the back nine I doubled 11 but got it back on 12 with a birdie. Lost a ball on 13 after taking 3W (resisted the urge to pull driver on the Par 5) and made another double and had two solid pars on 14 & 15 into the wind. A bogey on 16 from a poor lie in the rough (was unlucky a bit to stay up there on the slope)

After a good drive on 17, I got an unlucky break with the second and it ran into some thick rough and trees and I had to chip out. Hit a poor approach into a 4 club wind and missed the green. Took another double.

I had a triple to finish with a duck hooked drive, a drop and still 340m to go !!!

Shot 85 with a double/triple finish...including double bogeys on ALL of the Par 5's for the day !!!

The 17/18 combo killed a lot of people yesterday.

Tough day at the office mate.

Great to read this even after a horror round like that.

Spoken like a true golfer.
Yeah, rough day, but IMO it should rate 78 off the blacks. Unless you are flushing it, it is rough.

Bunker aggression is the only way at KB.

The 17/18 combo killed a lot of people yesterday.
I finished 8/8/7 for a total of +11over the card through the final 3 holes. Ouch.
