you've almost got the same length backswing as Phil Mickelson and John Daly

geez you tee the ball low too .... how the hell do you hit it high when it's teed so low :?:

McMw
7th March 2005, 02:09 PM
I teed it low on that hole, coz it was into the wind...wanted a lower ball flight...

I tee it way higher when the wind's not into me...

Jarro
7th March 2005, 02:17 PM
Phew ..... you had me worried for a minute there

so what seems to be the problem Mau :?:

McMw

well...slight overswing is one thing, mine's just ridiculous... :?

Overswinging is not a fault. It can be the either the result of good technique or bad technique. From this pic it looks to me like good technique.

If there is something wrong then look into the cause not the symptoms.

Hard to tell from this angle but the only thing i can detect is perhaps the right hand coming away from the club, and the right elbow is flying a bit. But i would want to see other pics first before drawing that conclusion.

we really need to see pics from square on and from the back.

I can't see a problem with the shirt colour either, but perhaps the shorts are a bit too long.

Amazing how cocky Trung is now he's reduced his handicap

I agree with the right elbow.....bit of a chicken wing happening there. But with that huge wind up you must be able to hit it a mile. Looks like a lot of power there. :D ( cute calves too - but that's sexist so I won't comment)

is your right hand grip all fingers, or is it just a weird angle?

McMw
7th March 2005, 05:40 PM
I have an overlap grip, so that's just the weird camera angle...
mate took it yesterday (didn't know abt it till I got it in the email this morning)...

I've asked him to send along other shots that he may have taken (I know of one more he took just after impact)...

I didn't think that was a flying elbow, and still can't see how it is...but...

looks like I need to firm up the left (or right?) wrist???

Okay....
Got 4 pics, 1 of which was already posted, and the other's from the putting green...

this one is me on the 16th tee...
9 iron from 140+odd mtrs, came up 1 mtr short of the green, and abt 10 mtrs short of the pin, right...

McMw
8th March 2005, 03:35 PM
and this is me, after the 17th tee shot (first pic posted)...

into the wind, so my tee shot came up short of the 150marker...
think I had abt 170-180mtrs into the green, back pin...
hit a 3 iron...with the ball slightly above me...
full shot, with the ball starting on line, and fading at the top, towards the end...
ended up pin high, right of the green, maybe 6 mtrs from the fringe...

How wide is this fairway Mau?

Looks very generous or are or to the right hand sideof the fairway.

Terry.

McMw
8th March 2005, 03:57 PM
all 4 of us ended up on the right side of the fairway...coz of the left to right headwind that was playing on this hole...

yes...this is the widest fairway on this particular course, and yes...there is no rough...what you see on the background...that's it!!!

they have a local rule, ball lost in jungle, one penalty drop from POI...

it's not the kind of course I really enjoy as it doesn't allow me to bomb it off the tee....and where I can, too good a shot will usually end up in the jungle on the other side (as it happened twice on Sunday)...

fun course to play, but boy!!! 8)

it's a bad idea to see what your swing looks like....

I was very conscious of my swing this afternoon when I played 9...so much so, I blocked my first t shot off the 10th so far OOBs, it made the other groups snicker!!!

I thought i got it sorted on the 18th tee, but the 2nd shot was soooooo bad...it was embarassing...

sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

You have a good point there Mau, I find the same thing  you start trying to tell the hands where to go and start steering the ball rather than swing through it.

one good thing though is you've identified it and it wont happen again  8)

just got back from Perth - played 5 games of golf... :D

didn't take many shots of my swing, as my bud was there (first time in aus) so I took more pics of him and jean...

but Jean did manage to get one good one...and I quite like it!!! :D

What coursees did you play over there in Perth :?:

Looking good mate, can you transfer more weight to the front leg? :D

BTW...black socks?

McMw
18th March 2005, 01:51 PM
and what's wrong with black FJ socks??? :D

I played Royal Perth twice, Hartfield once, Collier Park once and Glen Iris (photo) once...it was just too dry and warm...but I really enjoyed putting on quality greens...in fact, the putting was the only thing that worked out for me...I was hitting the ball SHITE...

I got two more shots of my follow thru with my 5 wood (one tee off and one fairway) and I hate the way I finished...no balance or looks un-co...and the shots were no good too...high right...

I notice your left foot still appears to be perpendicular to the target line when addressing the ball. I am curious as to whether or not the 'fanning' of the left foot is still causing you problems? If so, perhaps you could open it a quarter of a turn to the target line (i.e. 22°) at address. After all, this is what Ben Hogan himself recommended. Of course, you would need to be aware that this does cause additional hip rotation on the downswing.

McMw
24th August 2006, 01:54 PM
my only real concern with the left foot finishing pointing to the target is if it's leading to me losing distance...

afterall, it would seem that with the left foot spinning towards the target during POI, means there is no resistance on the left side of the body...

I'm reasonably happy with the distance I've got atm, but just wondering if I'm losing out on it with this bad swing technique...

and from the pic above, my legs are bowing out towards the target - another flaw...

Ducky
24th August 2006, 06:12 PM
Well, my understanding from reading Ben Hogan's 'Five Fundamentals' was that the back foot was to be perpendicular to the target to create resistance (i.e. coiling) on the backswing, and the front foot was to be a quarter of a turn towards the target line in order to achieve sufficient hip turn (i.e. uncoiling) through the downswing. Of course, that is just his theory.

Haha.....just stiring McMw :D

Wow....what a backswing....look out Daly!!! I assume you hit a nice draw off the tee?

McMw
2nd June 2010, 10:45 PM
u assume wrongly - I wish I could hit a draw, but if I hit anything that curves that way, I tell everyone else that it was a bad swing, or some strong wind that did it...I slide too much on the downswing, so I fight a gay fade most of the time...

I didn't tape my swing (would be hard to that and swing at the same time I'm guessing)

besides the obvious (yellow ball) problem with this shot - I'm guessing that the downswing starts to look like it's coming from the outside (to in swing path) is the big problem here...

What isit - kick start with the lower body (too quiet), or drop the hands down and in first?

What does the ball tell you? The only thing to trust is the ball, it never lies. If you want to improve then watch the ball in flight very closely. It will tell you what the clubhead has done through impact, which is vital info for improvement.:)
