Did anyone see his "outside the ropes" segment that they did on him... Some pretty funny stuff on there. I am just happy that he is enjoying his golf atm

Just hopes his ankle holds up, hope he wins

Also good to see Davis Love up there again, id like to see him win something this year (he needs one win to gain lifetime membership of the pga) i have always liked the way he goes about things

I thought that happened in the fall series in 2007. I remember Golf Channel making a big hoo hah about it at the time.

go Palmer

You should just use the Allenby ignore button. He's really got his act together.

Anyone else here think he's put on a few more pounds? He's got an extra chin (or two) rather than the stickman image.

Veetle sure to get a workout today.

Day must of rallied late to make the cut ??? He looked like missing it when I was following it on Saturday morning.

Retief and Ames on hot streaks.. Dont think Ames has enough holes left though to post a high enough score. Retief does though, could be a dark horse to set the clubhouse lead.. and possibly a target for the others

Palmer finding a lot of sand, starting to cost him now. Stricker also bunker-bound currently. Allenby needs to play percentage golf.

Having said that he's just smashed a birdie putt past the hole.

Edit: 5' for par for Allenby. Stricker and Palmer both drop shots.

I question Allenbys mental strength in a situation like this, lets see how he goes

Left a putt on the edge of 14 after Palmer canned one. 15th he put it to 3 feet, Palmer to 6. Allenby made his putt, Palmer didn't.

These two are going toe to toe, and Stricker made birdie on 17.

All 3 of them are showing some nuts here.

He's smashing them off the tee too.

allenby 322 off the tee to primary rough - leaving 218

palmer 209 from rough to fairway, still has 17 yards to the hole

Fishman Dan
18th January 2010, 02:02 PM
Palmer short .... nervy chip with nothing to play with but on the fairway.
Allenby long... ball raced through the green, plenty of green to play with.

Faldo has been talking up the speed of this green all day, so I'd say Allenby has the better play if he has a half-decent lie.

Edit: He's getting a free drop on some well trodden grass. If he's a good dropper then he might even get to place it.

Who's next - Brad Hodge?

Jarro
18th January 2010, 03:06 PM
Allenby was very unlucky and deserved the win i thought, Palmers chip on the 18th hit the pin and if it didn't would've gone quite a long way past, leaving a difficult downhill putt.

Anyway, good finish to the tournament with a few people in contention right up until the last few holes 8)

Allenby can take heart from this, he's hitting the ball sublimly at the moment.

Webster
18th January 2010, 03:17 PM
Jarro, you make your own luck at that level. To the victor the spoils. Allenby had his chance. Better luck next time.

Hitting the pin at speed is lucky... especially if you happen to hit it square enough to have the ball rest 6 inches away. Luck is luck... I'm not a fan of the phrase 'you make your own luck at that level' but 'to the victor go the spoils' I can't argue with! Oh well, at least the Aussies are looking good thus far. Can't wait to see if Adam Scott can chime in when he starts his year.

You usually read the game well, but in this instance Palmer pulled one out of his arse. If the ball hit anywhere other than the middle of the stick he would have to have settled for getting down in 2 more shots.

They both had their chances on the final hole, but winners get lucky breaks - so Palmer wins the Sony Open.

Great finish to a competition. Well done to both of them.

What was the story with Allenby's second to the last, was it a miscalculation, did he get a flyer out of the rough?

What was the story with Allenby's second to the last, was it a miscalculation, did he get a flyer out of the rough?

It was pretty well buried in the grass. It landed in the right spot, but just ran like a bastard as soon as it hit the ground.

Robert Allenby admits that with the new grooves he'll be changing his wedges every 4 weeks rather than 4 months.

"Q. Chipping?

ROBERT ALLENBY: Yes, chipping, it just depends. My theory is probably every three or four weeks I'm going to changes my wedges, so I have always got fresh ones. Because I think that's the most important part of the game. If you can't chip around the greens, you can't win tournaments, and you can't compete.

And the grooves I have, they are one week old. I have probably nearly already wore them out in one week. I wore them out this week because I was always chipping.

Q. What did you use to change, every four months would you say?

ROBERT ALLENBY: Yes, exactly. So now it will probably be every four weeks instead of every four months. Hopefully the Cleveland boys have got plenty of them. They better start making them.

Q. They will make more?

ROBERT ALLENBY: I'm sure they will."
