Well tonight a bloke at work was walking to the train station and he decided to pop into the pokies and throw a quick 20 in..5 minutes later he spun the jack pot and walked out with $2500  Its the second time he has casually strolled in and pulled a big win..Me, Im not so lucky.

Whats the biggest amount of free money you guys have got?

One night in a drunken stupor I put my last gold coin into a pokie machine at the Casino. I pressed some buttons and some things flashed but I was in no state to mentally calculate how much I'd won, so I just pressed 'collect'. I ended up with about $80 in one dollar coins, so I filled my pockets and headed to the bar. 8)

A grand at the Casino a couple of times, and $1100 at the speedway raffle at Parramatta a few years back.

I always buy a ticket in everything going, so it all goes out again quickly

A mate & I won $4000 at Burswood Casino years ago. I was over there for a holiday after the Australian Sailing titles @ Mounts Bay. My mate had come over after I had finished and we were staying with his cousin. She lived at Claremont(? Near Mounts Bay)
She took us out to the casino. We won it on roulette and the Chocolate wheel thingy. Was a big night. Started off drinking VB and ended the night on Cointreau & Ice.
Was pretty funny these 2 pissed young blokes with 2 girls walking to the Hotel next door at about 5am and asking the concierge to get get us a limo. He was a smart arse and asked how will you pay for it and we reached into our pockets and fanned out the cash. Needless to say we got the limo.
On our way home to his cousins place at Claremont, We ask the limo driver to put the radio on, listening to the radio and we here the local radio station do one of those first guys here win $1000 things, His cousin tells us it is just where we are. We get there 1st! Another $1000.

We get home and I top it off getting it on with my mates cousin. A pretty good time in Perth that trip.

I had a night at Tigers Leagues where a friend and I played a pokie up to about $1000. It was quite weird, after a while we decided we were after the major jackpot. We were betting everything max, but managed to maintain that amount for probably a couple of hours - it would go down and we would get a decent win to bring it up, we were doubling huge amounts and winning...

In the end we settled for pulling out about $800 - but the fact we kept so much money in the machine was surreal. Needless to say, never again. Losing that $200-odd before we pulled out almost didn't mean anything.

I also had my first OzLotto win last week in the $20m draw - I thought it was $21 (after spending $18 on the ticket). I went and cashed it in and picked up $35 - I had wins in the bottom 2 divisions on the same card :p

[PS - Scottt... yes, I declared it all with the bride]

Through another forum, I won a HD plasma TV in a suburban cricket raffle. Except the suburb was in Melbourne and I was in Sydney.

Fortunately, their captain did a 'phone-around to his team-mates, for the best offer.

Although I sometimes regret not having One-HD as an option.

$1100 on a 10c machine at St Marys Leagues Club about 18 months ago - I hit its major jackpot, which stood at about $950 at the time, plus got a little bit more on the side. On Australia Day in 08 I accumulated around $800 over an afternoon at Port Macquarie Panthers, so wasn't that bad a year.

In the mid 90's I owned a fifth share in a horse with a few mates. At that stage I still believed the dribble that trainers spout. He told us on the Wednesday that she was "cherry ripe" and should be a great chance on Saturday. I don't want to risk the TAB odds shortening so I opened a Centerbet account to secure a fixed price. I have 500 e/w (my biggest bet ever by miles) after cannily securing 12/1. She wins paying $20 + change on the TAB. I win $7500 but leave the best part of $5000 on the table due to being too smart for my own good. Stlll a great day.

Went to the casino with a mate and all we had was $2.50 in cash and a $5 chip. The $2.50 got us a VB can split into two glasses, and we headed to the blackjack table with an optimistic outlook

that $5 chip lasted us all night with some very strategic blackjack play. Basically every time we got our pool up to about $25 we would drink it and start again with the $5

later at night the clown got greedy, he broke the strategy and lost about $20 plus the $5 bank. I think in the end we had won around $80-100.

Blakey

Had a similar night with my former housemate -it was Wednesday before payday, we had $10 between us, but we had a free meal voucher and 2 free beers. So we ordered a schnitzel between us, had the beers, bought four more beers and invested the $2 left over in a dog.

Changi Banjo blew out from $4 to $20 in front of our eyes before belting home for a $40+ collect. We ended up leaving at closing with $50 profit each and a skinful - and my mate picked up the only decent bird in the joint...

Not bad for a Wednesday ;)

Bought a car, computer and shares. He was 18 years old.

Gave me and mum a bit each.

Sold some of his shares and paid for a ticket for my mum to fly to the US. He is generous, although he doesn't think about it too much. Bought the shares at $7, sold at $11. And now....... that's why he doesn't think about it.

I won $1000 playing poker last year, which will keep me in front for a while on that particular investment stream.

I've had a couple of $500 odd collects on the pokies, but I'm still well behind.

I've had a few $500 and $600 collects playing the first 4 on the dogs, but I'm still well behind there as well.

Nice honest post, Jim. Most people that have had big wins, don't tell you about the losses on the way.

I won $1000 playing poker last year, which will keep me in front for a while on that particular investment stream. Please tell me more.

I don't really gamble, and I don't buy scratchies or lotto tickets, therefore my wins aren't memorable.

The biggest win that I can think of is from buying tickets to the tennis on the Gold Coast. I won a new tennis racquet valued at about $300, plus tickets to two days of the Australian Open including flights and accommodation.

I've had plenty of losses, but not in the order of hundreds of $$. I'll generally never spend any more than $50, and it's really only once or twice a month that I'll go anywhere near one. So 1 or 2 great days out of 15 or 20 is nothing special.

My sportsbet account maxed out at about $8.5k at one point, and I'd never deposited a cent in it. I had always promised myself to cash out at $10k and start again.

That same account now has $39.31 in it and has hovered between $200 and $3.30 for about 12 months now, still have never put any money into it. The downward spiral started when I but a $1.5k multi on. Wales over Scotland, Ireland over Samoa, All-Blacks over Tonga, England over Argentina and Australia over Italy. All the games were within 3 days of each other and I thought it was one of the safest multi's of all time. I think it paid about 3.70, then at the last minute I decided to boost the odds a bit (to something like 4.05) by making the Aussie leg vs Italy a +14. Needless to say all the legs came in, all that was left was the Wallabies to beat Italy by 14+ which I believed to be a very safe bet. With 30 seconds to go, scores were level and Mortlock touched down in the corner for a last gasp win. I was absolutely pumped, went to collect and realised as I logged in that I had given the Azurri the 14 point start! DISASTER.

I then chased the money with more and more outrageous bets and the result is $39.31 in the account!

Biggest win would be a few nights at the Casino, back when I was younger, stupider and had a big disposable income I had a few nights when I worke up in the morning with $4-$5k in cash/chips in my pocket, but I have lost over $1k a few times too. I can only assume I won it playing blackjack, and didn't sell my body. I was usually too intoxicated to remember, but I don't think even a rich fag would pay that sort of money for my body!

I had a few nights like that pre mortgage and nuptuils.

We won a 10k Hardly Normal gift voucher through Amex rewards a few years ago. That was totally out of the blue.

I have had a couple of largish sports bet wins, but they all go back over time.

Mike,

It was promotion to open an account, you got a $50 free bet and it had to be a bet with odds of better than even money.

My first bet was Collingwood to beat West Coast at the MCG in 2005. We were bottom of the ladder at the time and they were top, I just plonked it on to get the ball rolling and the Pies won. It built up from there. From memory, we were paying 7.50.

Won a few hundred here and there on the pokies, dont play them very much at all. My parents on the other hand r gold card members of the casino - $89k is there biggest win. Quite often they'd pick up 2-10k over a weekend. All in all they r prob down 100-150k. The idiots.
