Okay,

So here is the draw.

No forfeits please gentlemen. Those doing the forfeiting will be left out of next years draw.

Draw was done in a random fashion. Pieces of paper out of a hat.

Well 2010 Matchplay is underway.

After some late night changes of venue due to timesheet issues Damoocow & I played our 1st round matchplay this morning at Pines Rivers.

Hole 1: 310m Par 4 ddasey 1 up
Hole2: 324m Par 4 Damo wins hole. All square.
Hole3: 487m Par 5 Damo wins hole. 1 up.
Hole4: 372m Par 4 ddasey wins hole. All square.
Hole 5: 157m Par 3. ddasey wins hole. 1 up.
Hole 6: 439m Par 5. ddasey wins hole. 2 up.
Hole 7: 355m Par 4. Hole squared. ddasey 2 up.
Hole 8: 154m Par 3. Hole squared. ddasey 2 up.
Hole 9: 286m Par 4. ddasey wins hole. 3 up.

Hole 12. 308m Par 4. ddasey wins hole. 4 up.
Hole 13. 308m Par 4. ddasey wins hoel. 5 up.
Hole 14. 308m Par 4. Damo wins hole. ddasey 4 up.
Hoel 15. 422m Par 4. Damo wins hole. ddasey 3 up & choking
Hole 16. 279 m Par 4. Damo wins hole. ddasey 2 up .:smt017
Hole 17. 264m Par 4. Hole squared.

ddasey wins matchplay 2&1.

A big thanks to Damo for his company today. Despite some patches of wet weather I had a most enjoyable day. I must thank Damo also for coming over to my home course to play this game. It can be very difficult playing a course you are not familiar with.

So round 2 awaits :)

Thanks for the match Dave- you were really hitting the ball well [one fairway missed only all day] - actually we both played OK - I had an 89 and Dave a 91 - considering the rain and how wet the course was we played alright. The Pine Rivers greens are sensational at the moment [hard to believe I know, considering the fairways and tee boxes leave a lot to be desired !]
When you started choking at 5 up I thought I had a big chance to square the whole thing up !! Good luck with the next round.

Is there a reserves list? As a first-timer in the matchplay, and with a few long-time ozgolfers missing out it'd be a shame to waste a first round game due to a forfeit.

Matchplay Officials, I leave the decision up to you.

Bugger.... 1st reserve here.

I reviewed the original thread and found the above post right after Hux took the last spot. I'm happy for DC to jump in and take gregh's spot if that's how it's decided it should be done. Forfeits in the first rounds are stupid, albeit sometimes unavoidable.

(I will say that I'm a bit disappointed that my first ever ozgolf matchplay opponent will be someone I play with/against every other week. But at least it should be easy to get out of the way in double-quick time.)

Eag's
8th February 2010, 05:25 PM

Unfortunately we can't play the matchplay on Saturday anyway. The groups are still fixed as it's the second round of the club matchplay championship qualifier. Did I mention I'm leading C-grade eventhough I only just scraped in to the grade by 0.2? 8-)

markTHEblake

Hey, the handicaps that apply to the match is based on the date the draw was done, 23/12/09, right?
Thats how it applies if you are playing a handicap matchplay at your club.

That seems fair.

The writeup is close enough to being correct.

Result - All sq
F9 A A - R A - R R -
B9 R - - - A A A R R

I was suprised that our final scores weren't too bad, as it felt worse. I'm not as worried about the last two holes now, as I had played mutated shots like that the rest of the day too, but had got away with it thanks to my short game. I'm more disappointed with letting Rusty win four holes with only a bogey, although I won two myself with bogey.

i couldn't play any more holes in case he didn't win. the draw was devastating enough for him. What? I wanted the playoff hole to redeem myself. What are the chances of me playing three bad holes in a row? I'm sure you were just worried that I would birdie the first again.

Both handicaps are 11.5 now. No shot for you!

Jarro
19th March 2010, 01:53 PM
Maybe you could've had a bunker shootout ?

just
19th March 2010, 02:09 PM
Maybe we could have a subjective test to decide the winner. Both Andy and Rusty scan and submit their course plans to the forum and then we run a poll to judge whose plan is better, or perhaps who stuck to their plan more, and the winner of the poll is the winner of the matchplay.

Should there be some rule that after the 2nd replay then either extra holes or a coin toss is in order ?

How about that any replay only goes for 9 holes. Then its sudden death if still tied. That will guarantee a result 99% of the time easily. If they are still tied after the whole second 18, shoot both of them.

That might seem like a waste of half a round for some, but the matches are supposed to go for sudden death after 18, not play again.

If we are not holding up the draw, why should anyone else care? We could have had playoff holes, but we prefer a full replay as we enjoy playing matchplay, and don't get the opportunity at club level like others.

Jaybam goes through over peters. One up and ugly golf but a win is a win.

Lucky & I are playing our matchplay tomorrow at Wynnum.

I know it is past the cut off date, but work and family delayed the game 2 weeks ago.

I hope this is OK with everyone.

If it's not okay, it will be like playing a dead rubber.

Very true.

But for me any game of golf at the moment is a bonus. How dare bloody work interfere with golf

Well finally Lucky and I managed to get together and get our match out of the way.

We played today at Wynnum (Single v Par)

Lucky off 5 and ddasey off 18. (Nice to have 13 shots).

We both played some pretty good golf but the final result was ddasey 5 & 4.

Thanks for the company today Phil, we will have to do it again.

Now bring on the next round......
