Well through some bad luck and some good fortune i have had an insurance claim come through after some @$$holes swiped some of my gear, unfortunately i have to spend the credit at a particular retailer that doesn't carry all brands.
I'm specifically after a driver to update my MX-500 with UST HMOI R70 shaft. I'm happy with this set up but want a new toy. Fogivness is #1 on my priority list prefer something that sits Square.

Brands in the mix are -
Callaway, TM, Ping, Cleveland, Mizuno, Srixon, Brosnan, Proline & Shark:D

anyones thoughts (of relevance appreciated)
Yoss,JC&Adlo - Zacdullard you are all banned from participating in this thread.

mmmmm.....
I've got this credit to use up and thinking of getting fitted for a driver. Only had one hit of Yoss's yesterday and although i hit it well it was shorter than my mx-500 by about 15m.

negative ghost rider on that purchase.

sorry MW.

I don't reckon the 9015D fits into the forgiveness category ?

R9 460 has plenty of forgiveness, Ping G10 possibly but the G15 I have heard is heaps forgiving.

If you have the cash go the bling of something latest ! or get Proline I guess

simmsy
19th December 2009, 04:03 PM
yeah the cash is there. I can't be bothered with the R9. Golf is hard enough without having all those different settings to play around with your head on the first tee.
Can you imagine being on the first tee and wondering if you remembered to close the face back up or change the loft or what ever else it bloody does.
geez.

I wasn't overly keen on an r9. Until I hit one!! Long and forgiving. Oh, and straight.

I'm not sure that they're that long?? With my old Superquad I used to be able to hit onto the fairway over the net from the grass at Vic Park, the r9 won't get over the net....

Forgiveness #1 = Nike Sumo 5900 , looks square guaranteed.

Well Cobra ZL is getting big raves at present, although it too has the ability to change shaft settings.
Interchangable shaft heads are definitely the way to go - being able to try different shafts is really great. I have my R9 running NU, and neutral weights (don't forget the R9 460 has no weights only shaft settings)...the most I have changed is from NU to N on the shaft.
However I have swapped shafts - I consider it a great feature when a latest release head costs so much and you can then have a play and find the right shaft to go with the head.

ugly at address #1 = Nike Sumo 5900

The cobra ZL is #1 on my want list, unfortunately the retailer i am dealing with don't do Cobra.

You know i had a similar issue with insurance with some stolen fishing rods - they get a discount from the retailer for all business at that location.
I told them I wanted to replace a custom rod with a custom from a specific manufacturer. They told me they get discount so we agreed they would take from memory 10% off the insurance payout value and give me the cash. Worked out nicely. I got a nice custom G Loomis instead of an off the shelf thing.

You should try the same with the driver and then get the ZL....that or buy whatever will sell best for max $$.
Remember there are new Cally Diablo Edge, FT series and TM Burner out beginning of next year...you could always wait for the new releases!

Why don't you get the most expensive driver humanly possible. Keep it in plastic. Drive down the road to Drummond and get store credit and grab a ZL from them?

simmsy

that's not very helpful adlo.
I will hope that something else agrees with my swing.

I thought my post was most helpful.

In any event, go and get fitted with an open mind. See what works.

Cally FTiz looks good. The G15 is ultra forgiving but launches moon balls.

Edit: simmsy, looking at FT-iz specs I would be equally happy with the 10 degree FT-iz (not tour). The 10 degree is square. The 10.5 tour is 1 degree open. Thanks buddy. Don't forget your old pal.

Bad news on the theft....does that mean the trusty BUL 3 wood has gone? That would be sad news...

I don't think the head matters, its all BS. The shaft is the key so get whatever head you feel comfy with and try loads of shafts! Anyone that argues against that logic is an idiot and fooling themselves!
