Had a hit today of the new Nike VR Tour driver and Str-8 and all I can say is SWEET BABY JESUS!
I tried the VR Tour 9.5* Project X 6.0 (stock shaft) shaft and this thing goes like a rocket, it sits so good very much like the old Titty 983E (pear shape) the head size is around about 440cc.
Ball flight was flat and penetrating and the sound was just unbelievable, Nike have really found something special with the compression chamber. Forgiveness was good but not super which is expected from a smaller head driver.
I love this driver as a matter of fact I have one on order, for you guys who have hit balls at the Northlakes driving range the green at the back of the range. I was reaching that with a strong head wind. I thought I was just hitting it well so I pulled my FT9 Tour 9.5* FUBUKI to compare, the difference was surprising, my FT9 which is the longest driver I have hit to date was at least 15m short of the Nike I put it all down to the new Compression Chamber as it acts like a secondary trampoline face.
As for the Str-8 9.5* it was much more forging than the tour because of the larger head but I was put off by the sound, it sounded alot more tinny than the tour I think it's because of the adapter. Performance wise it wasn't as long as the tour as the ball kept balooning. It was fitted with a Aldila VooDoo (stock shaft) this driver will be better for players who struggle for flight IMO.
I'll give you guys a review when I get my hands on the new Adams Fast 10 in the next few weeks.

He is unable to keep a driver more than a few months no matter how good it is.
He is a major driver and putter HO, actually he is just a big golf HO :-)

Freddy I have been moving away from lower lofted drivers to increase forgiveness - so these days I prefer to play with a 10.5 lofted head with a low launching shaft - eg my FT9 TA is 10.5* but I combined it with a axivcore green in 85 Stiff and I get the perfect amount of forgiveness and nice mid to high non ballooning trajectory - so go the 10.5

Or is that an industry secret? 8)

3oneday
16th February 2010, 08:22 PM
Well, henno there are a few prices ;) they are selling in the USA retail for $299USD with a $100 Nike Giftcard, about $280USD on ebay.com I think.

I haven't sold one yet, but I saw one sell on ebay here last week for $500AUD ! that was a STR8 fit.

Hit one just now at Vic park. Head looks sweet. Feels pretty damn good. Hit a 9.5 on a good trajectory (for me), sounds good too. Too bad it's too light and too long... Why they make a "tour" driver 45.75" I'll never know...

The str8 is still too loud....

The 001 method looks nice too....

I could easily play an all Nike bag....

3oneday
16th February 2010, 08:29 PM
Funny how they've never managed to sort the sound out, but you say it sounds different to the non STR8 ???

Yeah, the glued tour version sounds like a normal driver, nice solid sound. The Str8 doesn't sound as bad as the old Nike drivers, but still louder than the tour.

Lucasto23
16th February 2010, 10:06 PM
nudgee, wasn't intrested just wanted to know what it was like. It looked nice ;)

What did you think of the tour green shaft you had gorilla

nudgee
16th February 2010, 10:12 PM
the tour green definately lowered my trajectory - low spin and I got the 85 gram as I like a heavy combo - my pro mate is bombing my FT 9 TA with this shaft in it. there is no doubt it will lower your flight - top notch shaft that you can get these days reasonably cheap.

the tourstage should give you a lower flight as well given its deep face - but I never did hit - Perci will be able to tell you all about it soon ;)

Swing weight is D4 I think too Iain, so if you cut it to 45 1/4 I think that would make it D2.

Oh, well I'm hoping to hit the non str8 tonight on the course, I'll give you my thoughts as well. I've never really worried about length ;)

Iain
17th February 2010, 11:30 AM
I don't think it was the length, more the weight that I couldn't get used to. Even all the irons felt wrong, but I have all my irons at about d6.

Look forward to hearing about it.

Well ;)

Absolutely loved the sound, very Titleistish soft 8) I took the 8.5 out and was pretty pleased with how it felt, flew and performed.

I hit it side by side with the FT-9 Tour, let's just say the FT-9 has packed it's bags and is nervously awaiting it's date with my Sony ;)
