I reckon everyone should put in few bucks at the start as a membership fee, so we can have some sort of prize at the end and maybe a piss up somewhere.
Doesn't have to be much I reckon and plasterers, jail wardens, glass cutters and council reps all get paid heaps I heard.

1. We could have 3 for a win, 2 for a square and 1 for a loss. This is so people who always loose (like Haysey) can still get some points up. That way people who turn up at away courses can still benefit somehow.
2. Also, people who come from towns that start with an "M" should have points deducted just because they should (rednecks).

Courty
2nd December 2009, 09:49 PM
Whats the format going to be?

I'm going to split us all into two (hopefully) even groups. Each group will play a round robin as per the 2009 system, then the top place-getters from each group will play off for the final.

2 reasons for this, everyone gets at least a few games, but there aren't so many games that we don't get through them all (a la this year).

2009 had a few changes/additions from start to the yet completed finish that were discussed with some but not others.:-k

Not sure what you're alluding to here. You wanna be more specific?

Nope, I'm not going to reward mediocrity. ;)

No one is bound to play their matches at any specific course. Anyone who's smart would probably try to make it happen at a neutral course, but that's up to the competitors themselves to work out.

Not sure what you're alluding to here. You wanna be more specific?

There was some messages posted that I cant see anymore about changing to a finals etc towards the end of the matches and a few other things, no biggy.

Hence thats the reason why I asked what the format was going to be.

Courty

No semi-finals?

I kind of implied that (in my own mind, at least), but I should have specified. 1 vs. 2 in each group, then the 2 winners play off, and the 2 'losers' play off for 3rd & 4th.

If NKJ gets his handicap within the next three weeks, is he able to be included in the draw for 2010 ?

Absolutely. This thread is an EOI only. If he is interested, he needs to express it in this thread. ;)

I'm still not quite clear on what you're getting at. If you're referring to the finals format, I was kinda waiting to see how much time we would have (with a view to finishing before the Champs) before I decided on exactly how to play it. Where possible, I'd like as many OZgolfers to play as many matches as possible.

I have got a trophy done for the winner of "FNQ OZGOLF MATCHPLAY CHAMPION" which is to be passed on each year. Who will be the first shield on it for the year 2009 ???
Is it numbnuts Ned, is it the Count, is it Russell the love muscle, is it Cookie Monster, or does Solarman the underdog have enough shots to win.
Will Solarman or Cookie fall this Saturday......all this and more, stay tuned.

Group 2 looks like more of a 'players' group: the group to drink a little more around the course, the group who would throw a few more clubs around the place, the group who set a few more style guidelines, the group who will have more fun.

Look forward to it.

OK. So I'm a little bored tonight. My attempt at a form guide for 2010.

Chopper71: Awesome player to watch when on song. Figured deep into his home club championship matchplay rounds. Often goes under par. Will be there at the end.
Ned Kelly Jnr: Unknown quantity. Has the pedigree to spring the odd surprise.
Courty: Semi finalist 2009. (at least) Handicap has blown out recently. Needs to ho a game from somewhere as his seems to have disappeared of late. Will enjoy getting a shot or two off haysey.
Julie: Consistency the key. Can never go to far wrong from the centre of the fairway. Guaranteed to hop into it.
Mike: North Queenslands golfing elf. Experienced matchplayer. Has contributed greatly to Mareebas pennants team over the last couple of years. Can do better than 2009 results show.
Haysey: Sucked in 2009. Has problems between the ears. Must do better early in 2010 to have any sort of credibility.

haysey
12th December 2009, 08:20 PM
And the choppers group

Ned Kelly: Semi finalist 2009 (at least) Happy to have avoided Ned Kelly Jnr. Superb matchplayer, having lost only once in 2009. May be hampered by reduced amount of golf in 2010. Will be there at the end.
Russell: Semi finalist 2009 (at least) Needs new clubs to compete in 2010. Has suffered a drop in form late in 09. Still a tough competitor with the right handicap.
Cookie: Ozgolfs Carson Kressley. Great swing, burglars handicap. Had a baby in 2009 and still to get his balls back from his wife's purse. Won't play golf enough to figure.
Solarman: Semi finalist 2009 (at least) How the **** this happened is beyond me. Massive handicap helps immensely. Has to be a contender in this group. Opponents must play him at Paradise Palms.
BrettM: Will put opponents to sleep talking about the agronomy of the golf course. Each way bet if it doesn't take him another 5 years to bed those shiny new clubs in.
Tomson: Flusher who hits it miles. Struggles around the greens. Each way bet whether he'll finish each round with 14 clubs. Needs to lose the headcovers.

3 games in the last 2 years. My contribution consists of not actually playing.

Chopper71: Awesome player to watch when on song. Figured deep into his home club championship matchplay rounds. Often goes under par. Will be there at the end.

Never seen him play but is spoken of in whispers by his Cairns peers!!!!:smt108

Ned Kelly Jnr: Unknown quantity. Has the pedigree to spring the odd surprise.

From his first Junior coaching with Carl Mattsson, was described as unlimited potential (which is the same for most kids), Is practising every day so only time will tell.

It will be interesting being the Caddy/Minder!!!!!:-k

Courty: Semi finalist 2009. (at least) Handicap has blown out recently. Needs to ho a game from somewhere as his seems to have disappeared of late. Will enjoy getting a shot or two off haysey.

Well he may have copped a bagging about the extra mid drift but IMO Courty''s swing is  actually not as slow as it used to be and his ball striking for distance and power was much better yesterday when we played, danger man when he gets rid of that bale out/push right.:smt087

Julie: Consistency the key. Can never go to far wrong from the centre of the fairway. Guaranteed to hop into it.

Miss J, only one thing she needs consistently and when she gets it we boys be in lots of trouble............CONFIDENCE!

Haysey: Sucked in 2009. Has problems between the ears. Must do better early in 2010 to have any sort of credibility.

Yes big time and what Courty said.................although was playing with much more confidence yesterday, but that may have been because he was nailing Cookieman!!!!

Ned
13th December 2009, 09:51 AM
And the Movers and Groovers group.:D

Ned Kelly: Semi finalist 2009 (at least) Happy to have avoided Ned Kelly Jnr. Superb matchplayer, having lost only once in 2009. May be hampered by reduced amount of golf in 2010. Will be there at the end.

:-k A couple of sporting projects in play for the kids will be taking up some of my time...................... with the split format, making the top four with the quality in this group is going to be the MAJOR problem, but I expect that the winner will most probably come from the Movers and Groovers just looking at the Class (or in Solarman's case..............ARSE)

Russell: Semi finalist 2009 (at least) Needs new clubs to compete in 2010. Has suffered a drop in form late in 09. Still a tough competitor with the right handicap.

Ive always said to him imagine the heights he could climb if he had a FULL Set of decent crubs, not just two!!!

Cookie: Ozgolfs Carson Kressley. Great swing, burglars handicap. Had a baby in 2009 and still to get his balls back from his wife's purse. Won't play golf enough to figure.

Yes well when he does get the family jewels back and actually plays more then once in 6 months the Cookieman will be hard to beat.

Solarman: Semi finalist 2009 (at least) How the **** this happened is beyond me. Massive handicap helps immensely. Has to be a contender in this group. Opponents must play him at Paradise Palms.

The debonair, eccentric Latex Suited Wonderman, go help us if he either gets a golf swing or a new back!

BrettM: Will put opponents to sleep talking about the agronomy of the golf course. Each way bet if it doesn't take him another 5 years to bed those shiny new clubs in.

The consummate professional, knows how to put a golf course together, keep it that way as well as blaze around it with the game to match.

Those new sticks certainly are sweet looking and I don't think he bought them just because they looked good either.

Tomson: Flusher who hits it miles. Struggles around the greens. Each way bet whether he'll finish each round with 14 clubs. Needs to lose the head covers.

Meh, the head covers are loosing themselves going by what you were saying, Courty reckons he just needs to learn to play the deft side of the game and he is a winner.

I'm no greenskeeper but even I know that when it rains it washes the sand away. Oh well they must know something that I don't.

BrettM

WOW, scarified the back as well.

Problem with the disease you have (like the 1st green) is that it is spread by renovations.

Big call. I wouldn't be surprised if they take until at least April to fully recover as they'll probably be hammered by disease first.

I think that your playing partners must play a role in how you score.

Bob scored well because he had two partners from Group 2 who complimented him on good shots, and encouraged him when things got difficult.

Group 2 are like this, unlike the 'hand-picked' Group 1 try hards.

Any of you guys going for the GM role??

Is there anyone that would be willing to take on that role? The common perception is the role is a poisoned chalice...

I wouldn't touch it. I've encouraged Solarman to apply

You have got to be joking if you think I'd run for that.

Lets say that Solarman did take the job - what changes do you think he would make, what would be the new rules he would enforce.:D

Haha:lol::lol:...poor Iain would never get to play golf at Cairns again, Solarman would be a marshall out on the course watching every move he makes!!!:D

Damn. I just spoke to the man himself.
Mareeba losing it's greenkeeper is an absolute tragedy. Good luck to him, he's moving on to bigger and better things.

He'd have to ensure that there is a keg on tap for his mates, like me. Right Bob?

Where is he off to Mike? Let me know what direction the Club are thinking of taking.

Where is he off to Mike? Not greenkeeping. Justin is the heart and soul of our club. As you all know it's very rare, if ever, that you see Mareeba in poor condition. I worked closely with him in '06 and you'd be hard pressed to find someone with a better work ethic.

Let me know what direction the Club are thinking of taking.I wouldn't have a clue. Ned is closer to the action than I am.

That's a real shame, Mike. I hope you get a suitable replacement.

In other news, I'm playing Cairns with Chopper this morning. Our match may be played today.

If so, is NKJ available for a match against either me or Chopper tomorrow?

Haysey or Chopper had put their hands up first I thought.

You wont get a reply until tonight, I'm off to work and NKJ is snoring his head off!

Sore again this morning Julie. But it came good yesterday once I got off my fat ass moving, so I'm expecting I'll be all good

Haysey beat Ned Kelly Junior 5 and 3

An interesting day. I was 6 up after 9 holes before NKJ peeled off 3 wins in a row. It took a lucky 25 foot downhill putt to get me back on track and a birdie on 15 to seal the win.

Thanks for the round young fella. I'm very impressed with your golf game.

A faster start next time will make life extremely difficult for your next opponents:mrgreen:

Can I still claim underdog status?
