Well done to Pete on his win with his last round for the next 7 months. Obviously he played the most solid golf for the weekend, and more often than not, that is what wins OZgolf days.

WTF is NAGA?

Was the opening hole tough? Many f-ups? :)

Is a venue decided for next year?

Congratz to all winners.

WTF is NAGA?
What Zig said. It mean's last.

Was the opening hole tough? Many f-ups? :)Not really tough.
Lots of bad shots, especially the snap hooks, including my own after playing up to the gallery.

Is a venue decided for next year? No, although I'm sure there will be a thread for it soon. We all would love to go back to Pelican, but we've said that the last two years for the venue, and we've still changed venues.

Jono won the Long Drive both days.

If you got more than 60 points combined you were in the running!

Course wasn't that tough, just some very average golf by most...!

24 Points for me Day 1, 13 and 11
24 Points for me Day 2, 16 and 8

42 putts day 1
After hitting 7 of 9 GIR on Front 9 on Day 2 and having 4 x 3putt bogey's in a row, I gave up counting the putts (and surprisingly putted extremely well for my 8 points on the back 9, true story!)

Thanks to Eags, Billy, Choppa, PeteyD, Haysey and Henno for great company for two days, and also thanks for playing as poorly as me - Choppa the only inconsiderate exception.

Moe's just used to PW. ;-)
For choppers its a tough track. Small greens with lots (and lots) of undulation and canted pin positions. Lots (and lots) of bunkers shielding both side of fairways, landing zones and greens and on top of that plenty of canted lies and add that off the fairway is either wet or in some serious poo. Throw in some serious coastal winds and it become a real challenge for most.

Some damn good golfers at the champs and they were all tested...I think that says it all. I think the CCR off the blacks today was calculated today as being 28 pts and 34 yesterday off the blue.

Funny to see the guy that gets 2X long drive also gets the NAGA.

As Hux mentioned the black tees were definately a lot more of a challenge today, especially the way I was chopping it around.

I took a load of photo's off all the tee blocks today that I will post up soon.

Personally had a great weekend socially, golf was crap.

Day 1: 28 points

Day 2: 25 points (with no wipes )

Congrats to the winners, good to see somebody played some decent golf :smt038

Great weekend - and great to see so many there and so many new faces also.
Thanks to Shaun, Pete and Ryan & yesterday SMS PTP and Choppa. Was good groups to play in both day and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Have to admit the clammy hands at the 1/2 point yesterday didn't help........ after 27 holes i had 56 points and thought to myself, "just keep it in play and i could go alright".
.

.
Wipe
Wipe
And then the quality ball striking of Pete was too much for me to ever keep up with. His back nine included some sensational golf - and he is a much deserved winner.
Choppa and I tried to give SMS and PTP a run for their money - and we started pretty well, but they we just too good, was great to watch. SMS didn't have his best day however (annoyingly) his recovery play at times was 1st class.

Big thanks to Shave for the organising! It was a very good venue (fkn hot weekend!) Was a fan of the course aswell - (didn't get to play in the sand much Saturday... made up for it yesterday!!) Still think that 15th is a tough slog, i'd take 9 17 & 18 over that 15th every day.

16 played easy yesterday.

Yep 3 wood, punched 5 iron, lob to centre and 2 putts for par.

Far better than the hybrid, 4 iron, gap into right bunker - pin high, SW rolling over back cause the green is about 10 feet wide, chip back on, into shitty depression on green virge near path and 3 putts for a wipe on Saturday.

From the guy that said - And i quote "This would be one of the toughest par 5's in the fkn country!"

yeah. i missed the green twice from 60metres. It was a doddle to get it to there, but gee... i think its well worth the risk to take a long iron or fairway wood instead and go for the chipping area just in front rather than lay up.

my first pitch i held back cos it was downwind and still airmailed the green. and the next round was unbackable favourite to finish short in the trap, and did.

Not happy about that hole at all, it penalises both the layup and the long approach.

A huge thanks again to all the organizers for another great champs, great venue and great company, and thanks to all the guys in my groups, Jarro, perer_rs and Bruce yesterday and Poidda, DDasey and Scarfie1 on Saturday, groups worked out great as I had only played in the same group as Poidda once before. And thanks to my rommie steve too.

3/4 of the way through the weekend I thought I was a chance with a 34pts (17/17) with 3 washes on Sat, and 18pts, with a wash, after 9 holes on sunday only for the wheels to completely fall off coming in with only 8pts and about 5 washes, I don't know if it was the heat or the lack of golf lately, or just that I'm a unfit fat bastard, but I was sore and the clubs were feeling really heavy. :-( I need to get fit for next year.

Congrats to all the winners and hope the surgery goes well Pete, well played.

16th November 2009, 09:46 PM
The 16th on Saturday was only a Driver, 8 iron and 2 putts, after I hit one in the woods first, still finished with a 6 for a point thou :-)

And Sunday was a driver into the woods again, but not as deep and found it (thanks Peter_rs, I wasn't going to bother looking) chip up the FW, 3 wood just short of the green in the bunker, bunker shot just off the back of the green and 2 putts for another 6 and a point.

What a fun hole :-)

I thought 16 was a doddle. Driver - layup to about 100 - wedge on - 2 putts. I'm actually disappointed I didn't birdie it both days as I left myself some makeable putts.

I certainly wilted in the Qld steamy heat.

Well done to all player and especially well done to the organisers and other jobs for making another great weekend happen.

Anyone who didn't have a great time can only blame themselves for that.

Well and truly. Although I did see Shavey get equally spanked by SMS pre-flop, with SMS having a king and an off-suit junk kicker to Shavey's pocket ladies. A king on the flop and a king on the river sent Shavey packing with the rest of the losers.

As shazza said, after KV were learned fast that people (enough to slow scores) cann't do stabs scores right. To avoid mass DQ and take the fun element out of the weekend, the match committee made the call that the corrected score higher or lower would stand.

So now we just enter the gross on every hole and check the total points if that is wrong we can do a hole by hole count

A couple of observations...
9 of top 10 are 13 hcap or less. 6 of them 'A' graders. Suggests this course was tougher than average.
pete_the_pilot won by playing to his handicap.
hux took this too seriously and was too sober on Sunday
Only 3 of the top 10 played better on Sunday! hux, blake & nuttedit.
shazza_rs, courty, hux, steverawlo had massive improvements in the second round. What's up with that?!?!
kpac, choppa, sms, bruce, goonie, lucasto, andyp, west, peter_rs, senecio, dc68, jarro all had big 2nd round collapses. Good stuff.

How big is a collapse if your position in the field doesn't really change much? With the exception of last year, and year one, A-grader's have owned the Champs. I think that will continue while we play off back markers on resort style courses.

It also puts paid to the whinging we had before we moved to double stableford, that stableford would advantage all the choppers.

Why don't you play one day off the tips and the next off the mens markers?

And I still can't work out the "gross scores" the Pete_RS works out.

We did.

Very few can, however its a special super secret meant to confound, especially those from WA.

adlo,

gross is not true gross.... there was a match decision to award gross to the best 36 stab result of a 0 hcp, and is another reason why we have to record every gross score see post 80 there is another sheet like this that has everyone of scratch. It was figured it was better then just a played to golflink gross.

For the record we used a score of 9 in the table for a wash.

I think from memory we had one person played KV without a wash, and he had won everything that year, so we went with the above method instead of scraping the title.

I did not get a chance to use an autoupdate script I had to check everyones golf link friday night as my computer was on its last leg... some people notice sat night. windows runs so much faster with nothing installed.

To avoid mass DQ and take the fun element out of the weekend, the match committee made the call that the corrected score higher or lower would stand.

Point of Order :-)
Thats not a decision the match committee can make, that is the Rules of Golf. People cannot be disqualified for recording incorrect stableford scores, nor scorecard additions. The player is responsible for recording his gross score per hole, and the match committee is responsible for calculating the correct stableford scores and adding them up.

p.s. yes, one would be considered a wanker to hand in a stableford scorecard without the points calculated.

A couple of observations...
Only 3 of the top 10 played better on Sunday! hux, blake & nuttedit.

One observation.
Too much course for the old hooker huh? :-s

I am not going to say it was easier off the back tees cos it definitely wasnt, but apart from the 18th and one of the Par 3's the course was not significantly harder that the 400m extra distance would suggest.

A couple of observations...

shazza_rs, courty, hux, steverawlo had massive improvements in the second round. What's up with that?!?!

I have historically made an huge improvement on the 2nd round of the Champs each year. I feel that I never play well at a course I've never seen before. So my theory is that if we were to play the Champs somewhere I'm reasonably familiar with, I'd be a shoe-in for a placing.

A couple of observations...
9 of top 10 are 13 hcap or less. 6 of them 'A' graders. Suggests this course was tougher than average.
pete_the_pilot won by playing to his handicap.
hux took this too seriously and was too sober on Sunday

kpac, choppa, sms, bruce, goonie, lucasto, andyp, west, peter_rs, senecio, dc68, jarro all had big 2nd round collapses. Good stuff.

1. Hux had to drive home the drunks on Sunday.
2. Hux had to eventually play better than the previous two rounds.
3. Hux found less trouble from further back.

PS You good golfers are just pissed cause you can't go on about how hackers can't make the Top 10!!

Bottom dwellers fight back :smt023

PPS On a point of order a count back will show that on I should actually be above BV on the scoreboard courtesy of 36 pts :mrgreen::mrgreen:

Is 36 points your final answer??? You said you had 34 points when i first asked you what you had. Then you said you'd miscounted and you actually had 35 points.... Then I see you had 36 points to take out the day... I hope I never get a speeding ticket from you. ;)

I was sober - what do you expect.

Now last I checked 33 still beats 32

And yes you want to hope I never write out a ticket...for starters you won't be able to read it, second it will have mistakes all over it, thirdly it will probably be for having a dog off a lead drinking out of an open container with an unsecured load on green P's doing between 2 and 62kph over the limit.....I have absolutely no idea how to read those f'en code sheets - I'll leave it for the scooter p's

True,

Lucky that is how we do it :) what about cards that are not signed or no hcp or the wrong one on score cards....

It is a USGA thing.

The scoring staff will reject all scorecards that have not been signed by the scorer and the player and scorecards that do not have Stableford points totaled. If the missing information is not provided in a timely manner, the player will be disqualified and given zero points for the day. If an error on a scorecard awards too many Stableford Points on any given hole or in the Stableford points total, (he) the player will be disqualified. If a card has an error on the scorecard that awards too few Stableford Points on any given hole or in the Stableford points total, the erroneous score will stand.

Pete no dissension from me, just confusion.

Let's use petethepilot (h/cap 5) as an example;
"gross total 3 gross rank 47"

compared to, say, yourself (h/cap 12);
"gross total 36 gross rank 19"

and sms316 (1)
"gross total 60 gross rank 1"

Doesn't matter what angle I look at it, it makes no sense.

markTHEblake

From memory, Pete the Pirates rank "47" is a typo or formula error, and should read 1
