OK, to avoid confusion in the other thread, while this discussion has some steam, lets get somewhere.

This was taken from the original thread, and slightly modified.

This is my suggested itinerary for 2010. Hire a big house in the South West for 2 nights, we all squeeze in there, beds are prizes for leaders.

Friday, March 26

Start the drive south.

Ryder Cup Day. 2 teams picked in the 2010 OzGolf draft by our captains SnuggieThePokerMan and iTree-golfguy.

27 holes while we are fresh.

TEE OFF 0800 at Kennedy Bay

Kennedy Bay, play 18 holes, custom pairs event as designed by JC.
Binningup, play 9 holes individual matchplay. Captains to seed matches.

Drive to accommodation for the night. Poker night/pizza etc.

Saturday, March 27

Individual comp begins.
I am going to suggest 2 days of 18 holes, to enable a bit more social time. It seemed like most people wanted to head home Sunday afternoon before it got late. If we have more time Saturday PM (after a slightly later tee off than this year- thankfully), the weekend might not go so fast.

Dunsborough Lakes, 18 holes stableford. BOOKED FOR 0800

Trip to the Bootleg Brewery? (they are open 12-6pm, so depends on what time we get there, might be good for beer + snacks, then onto somewhere else for dinner)

Sunday, March 28

Start drive back towards Perth.

Capel GC, 18 holes stableford. BOOKED FOR 0830

Late lunch at Joaquin's old mans. A BYO BBQ could work me thinks. We could grab some meat on the way.

Accommodation?

We have a house booked in Bunker Bay, overlooking the coast. Sleeps 10, and the rest can sleep on the floor, couches, roll outs etc.....

Dates?

March 26-28

Rough costings

All 3 days of golf would come in at the $110 mark for green fees. (Kennedy Bay @ guests rate $25, Binningup $10 (voucher), Capel $30 (voucher), DL $45)

Accommodation, budget $50 per punter for the 2 nights. House rental is $560 for the group plus some fees for cleaning etc. The more golfers, the cheaper it will be.

$1 skins all weekend, and an estimated $25 donation to the "prize pool" for novelties. Non Ozgolfers are eligible for novelties but not for overall prizes.

Can't wait to see Tourfit on the first tee wearing a Maxibon shirt.

Does he have to wear it on the Friday and the Saturday?

Yes. I think he does.

TourFit
11th November 2009, 12:19 PM
Shouldn't have to wear it on the RC day !!! Only on the individual days.

Plus, if I wear it Fri AND Sat, then pull myself out of the mire of embarrasment and am not in last place Sunday, someone who has to wear it WILL NOT BE APPRECIATIVE !!! It was pretty skanky after 2 days...never mind 3.

The RC day is an addition and 'special'...should be Maxibon exempt due to the team nature of the event !!!

adlo
11th November 2009, 12:20 PM
That would be hilarious. He is probably going to avoid the champs at all costs now.

No discussion or suggestions gents?

TourFit

Is Binningup not worth 18...???

adlo
11th November 2009, 12:34 PM
It is..... but when do you play it? Unless we play 36 on Friday, which I am more than happy to do.

Pieface
11th November 2009, 12:44 PM
If we have a house, lucky last should be able to wash the TourFunk out of the shirt on the Saturday evening if required. Shirt should be dry in 10 minutes late March.

TourFunk...... :smt038

More golf the better.

True, all we need to do Friday night is drive to accommodation, eat and sleep.

Save some festivities for the Saturday night perhaps.

OK, OP edited, I am suggesting a 36 hole Friday!

adlo
11th November 2009, 01:24 PM
OK, doing a quick search for accommodation ideas.

What do people think of something like this? (http://www.rent-a-home.com.au/accommodation/wa/margaret-river---south-coast/yallingup/9588)

Would be $700 for 2 nights, can sleep in beds 10 people, the rest in the living area. If we had 15 golfers it would be $46 for the weekend, 20 golfers would be $35. Cheap as bro.

Obviously there are more options, but just getting the feelers out there.....

TourFit
11th November 2009, 01:30 PM
Looks great...although there is plenty down there. That price would be good for 15-20...

Although, I'm thinking Susan would be mightily impressed and glad at "how many friends you have!!" Lunch before we head back to Perth on Sunday perhaps???

If we are staying Dunsborough/Yallingup way, gotta do The Bootleg Brewery on late Sat arvo. We can call in on the way back from Busso GC on the way to where we are staying.

adlo
11th November 2009, 01:36 PM
Good call on the Bootleg.

No lunch on the way back home, unless numbers dwindle to 10-12 golfers or so. They do have a great entertaining area. Susan is nuts. Enough said.

Re: houses, I know there are absolute shitloads. Just trying to gauge peoples interest in staying in a big house vs. chalets/etc. I think a house is a) fun and b) has big areas for socialising/cards etc.

Pieface
11th November 2009, 01:37 PM
Is it extra for spew bags? Looks pretty sweet Adlo. What are we looking at for green fees on top of accom, grub etc?

72 holes over three days. I'll need to improve my golf fitness/stamina!

Is there any more of a tale to go with the maxibon shirt? How did it get picked as the losers guernsey?

adlo
11th November 2009, 01:43 PM
Johnny Canuck received it as a freebie from his Mother-IL. I think she was serious. He obviously wanted to offload it and nominated it as the NAGA guernsey. A lot of other social groups will use a reflective vest/shirt as the NAGA.

Green fees:

Mandurah CC: $30 (with voucher from Golf Voucher book, should be cheaper Fridays)
Binningup: $15
Bunbury: $20 (playing with members-Adlo, Yoss)
Busso: $35 (full rate, I think we should be able to find some vouchers here too)

All for less than a rack rate game at The Cut!!

TourFit
11th November 2009, 02:29 PM
That's an awesome weekend...

$35-40 for accomodation
$100 for green fees for 4 rounds

Will need more though for skins, comp fees (should be able to get away with $25pp if there are 15-20 guys!!), ALCOHOL and food.

As for food suggestions...apart from going to The Bootleg Brewery, we could go to The Goose in Busso for a VERY nice meal. Not cheap, but at least it would make us seem a little more civilised than beer swilling, pizza eating ferals!! Unless of course that's how we all want it. Maybe that's the impression adlo's new appearance is trying to make !!!

NO CHILLI DOGS NEXT YEAR!!! Except for id, who surprisingly breezed through his #10, while the rest of us struggled on 6's, 7's and 8's. Zues had a REALLY hard time of it on 8, Mrs simmsy was sweating buckets on 6, Yoss has had enough said, even adlo said that 8 was WAY hotter than normal. I was marginally OK on 6, but got to the point when it just got too hot. And SnuggieThePokerMan was OK on 4 (with his chicken dog)...well who wouldn't have been??

serious question

adlo

For sure, Mike and Henno have already shown interest.

Do you want to make "the list"?

On the "list"

Scarborough is in Perth, we are heading into golf & wine country in the south-west for this thing.

But if you make a week of it, you are very close to play Joondalup, and probably 45-50 mins from Kennedy Bay/Secret Harbour.

I like all the suggestions so far. The Ryder Cup idea is great I reckon!

Happy with the courses and everything as well.

Bootleg is a good shout great food great beer.

And there are so many accom options down south, but that one looks pretty good adlo. Bring on 2010!

adlo
11th November 2009, 03:15 PM
Agree Yoss, all the suggestions are gold thus far.

Ladies and gents, the OP is continually being edited to reflect changes. Have a look up there for a good summary.

adlo
11th November 2009, 03:25 PM
OK. I have thrown the Sunday late lunch at my old mans place in the mix for those not wanting to return to Perth ASAP. We can always tee off a bit earlier at Bunbury GC.

They can accommodate big numbers. Just make it a BYO BBQ affair. I was blown away by the spread they gave us this year and in no way can make them do that again.

They have a great pool/gazebo etc, will be great for late March.

TourFit
11th November 2009, 03:27 PM
You know...we could play Bunbury on Sunday morning, and for those interested, we could do a lazy 9 at Binningup on the way back. If we do this we could go back to 27 on Friday, so we can get to the accomodation in the light + have more social time...(or not)

Format it like the Skins Game (with some 'bigga dorra' than the normal skins)...Not everyone will play it, but for those that do maybe $10-15 to get in, and work out skins from there !!!

8 people @ $15 = $120...no NP's on Par 3's, but you could do #1-4 as $10 skins, #5-8 as $15 skins and $20 on the last...

Although a pool party sounds good too...

adlo
11th November 2009, 03:30 PM
I know iTree will vote for the 81 hole weekend, but personally would prefer 72. I am happy to play a big dorra side game at Busso or Bunbury.

TourFit
11th November 2009, 03:37 PM
Yeah, 72 would be better...we could just drop the 2nd 9 at Binningup on Friday...do it as 9 holes with the preferred 2 ball ambrose fun event.

And finish the weekend with the big dorra skins game !!! A chance to redeem misery, or financially cement OzGolf comp glory...or repeat weekend mediocrity.

adlo
11th November 2009, 03:40 PM
We were far too pushed for time on the Sunday. I still vote for the sundowner wind down.

Yossarian
11th November 2009, 03:40 PM
Yeah thinking about the friday could be a struggle to do 36 holes that day. What with less sunlight and more driving to get to the accomodation?

adlo
11th November 2009, 03:43 PM
Less sunlight in late March, are you serious?

With a shorter lunch break, we could do it.

730-8 tee times at Mandurah CC, last group off the course by 1230 at the latest.

Lunch on the drive down (no need for anything fancy)

2-230 off the tee at Binningup, finish as the sun goes down.

Is that so unrealistic?

idgolfguy
11th November 2009, 03:44 PM
I'm inclined to agree as long as I don't have to drink beer or wine.

TourFit
11th November 2009, 03:48 PM
I vote for 27/18/27...

FRI) Early tee time at Mandurah...less time for 'lunch', straight to Binnigup for 9. Poker Night (JC supplying Rohipnol again for adlo)

SAT) Busselton, Bootleg + group dinner??

SUN) Earlyish tee time at Bunbury...9 at Binningup (for those not heading back straight away).

It would be easy to substitute the wind up/lunch/pool party at adlo's old man's place instead of the 2nd Binningup 9, depending on who wants what...

Hey Pieface...do those jocks come in white??

Find a shorter course for the Saturday 36. Would like to do 36 on one day at least.

Johnny Canuck
11th November 2009, 04:10 PM
That's a little too extreme Fit. You're years away from that.

However, pretty soon, you might have to change the Adidas logo on your belt to one with either more stripes or thicker ones. 3 might just not cut it, especially if you were trying to hold up id's giant shorts.

adlo

You are golf mad my fwend.

We will decide closer to the date. I think a 36 hole day would be fun. Friday or Saturday is the logical option.

Johnny Canuck
11th November 2009, 11:02 PM
If we get a few people from over east playing, I'm thinking Kennedy Bay for 18 on the Friday. Give them the true WA experience. Would be a great venue for a team game of some sort.

The greens were rolling soooooo nice today. They actually roll and don't bounce.

Also, the fairways were greener than they have ever been. I think there's been some fertilizer spread in the last week or so.

adlo
11th November 2009, 11:10 PM
In the words of Ice Cube, i'm down for whateva......

Great call JC, if we have Jarro/Henno/Mike/G69 lets play Kennedy Bay.

Slightly longer drive to Binningup for 9 holes, either high stakes skins or team event.

36 hole stableford comp in the SW over Sat/Sun, Busselton and Bunbury.

Best. Weekend. Ever.

Yossarian
11th November 2009, 11:13 PM

12 cause it is pretty awesome and then 17 so they know what we are bitching about?

KB is a good shout for the boat people though.

Johnny Canuck
11th November 2009, 11:16 PM
Binningup is an hour from Kennedy, not bad at all. We can get 18 in there if we really need to...

I'm thinking Kennedy would be great for a Canadian Foresomes, I think it is. Both team members tee off, choose the better ball and then play ambrose from that point in.

adlo
11th November 2009, 11:18 PM
I think the answer to how many times we go around Binningup can be answered closer to the date.

Canadian Foursomes sounds like a good event. Captains can use strategy to make good 2 man teams.

Ryder Cup Day. 2 teams picked in the 2010 OzGolf draft by our captains SnuggieThePokerMan and iTree-golfguy.

Are there recruiting zones? e.g. ID north/east of the river and JC south/west?

Nope, they get free reign as captains and get to make alternate picks. The reigning champ gets first pick, iTree gets 2nd pick.... etc

OK, after a conversation with the cwazy canadian reigning champ today, the verdict on Friday is:

Course is chosen (and hosted) by the 2009 champ, Johnny Canuck: Kennedy Bay.

And cwazily, we will play Canadian Foursomes, buddy.

A draft will be conducted closer to the date. #1 pick by Johnny Canuck, #2 by iTree and so on.

The draft will be done in real time, on this forum, so we can all see the drama unfold, post by post, until TourFit's name has been drawn, ie until the last pick has been made.

I will be running a book on who will be selected first by JC. If handicaps stay the same, I have a fairly strong hunch who it might be.......

I had a word with ZRW today and tried to convince him to attend these champs. As his other half works every second weekend, he'll have to let us know a little closer to the actual date.

I spoke with him about the Friday at Kennedy, and if needed, he'll put a word in to get us all on at guest rates, in case there is any issues with me getting that many guests on.

The course is in AWESOME shape and is deserving of the number 4 ranking in the country. The greens are very firm, which was always the biggest complaint about the course. They are rolling about 10.5, which is perfect for them.

The big thing is that they are rolling, not bouncing. I hope some of the East Coast boys can make it over to play the course.

simmsy
21st November 2009, 11:59 PM
i might have to get down there for a hit over chrissy JC. the greens are the only things that i have ever had against kb. not that they have been bad just not as good as the rest of the course. great to hear they are coming up to scratch now as well. 10.5 is a pretty slick speed for them down there i would say, start blowing away from you other wise.

be good to see a couple of wise men from the east come and experience the golf coast.
I'm thinking of taking the wed/thur off work as well to play on those days perhaps. if anyone else is keen, long way off i know but i'm as about as excited as golfnut is at getting an arm up me at the 2010 WA champs.

i think also adlo on the Friday night we do a live draw for groups on the saturday, pick out of a hat or something like that anyway.

Courses are locked, but do we need to confirm bookings with each of the courses?

Accom is sorted - I will be picking up the keys a few days before

Maxibon shirt needs to be drycleaned and dyed a fairly unfriendly colour.

TourFit must wear it on day 1 of the individual comp as last years biter.

Maxibon shirt must be embroidered with "TourFat 2009".

We should hopefully get 16. Henno, sweaty, you should definately come!

Ok. I didn't change it. You typed it. Missing your girl?

Settle down boys  ISG 4eva!!

I will start a new thread or 2 as this was an EOI thread. I will base the thread format on the (successful) format that is used for the Qld champs.

JC, get Paul onto OzGolf. He was great value on the course.

Just what we need, another WA ozgolfer over 6 foot. That dude was a giant!

adlo
3rd January 2010, 12:09 AM
Ha ha, didn't even think about that.

We might have a "Giant Fweak" only event soon.

All the better to make IDG and Tourfit look like midget in the photo.

Still kinda keen about this. Airfares are pretty cheap around that time. Just have to pluck up the courage to ask permission to spend a shit load of $ and have a couple of days off work to play golf on the opposite end of the planet with people I've never met.

She's a very reasonable woman but I'll understand if she questions my mental state. I'll try my best.

Do it Mike. We had such a blast in November. As you have probably found with most forum members, everyone has their quirks, but mostly they are pretty decent blokes to golf with.

simmsy, I like your "live draw" idea on the Friday.

Guys, I have a wedding in Sydney in the 27th of March so I'm going to have to pull out of this. I was really keen to come over too. I already tried to get out of the wedding by crying poor, but that didn't work. I don't think flying off to W.A. would sell it too well.

Booooo!

adlo
3rd January 2010, 10:38 PM
Henno, West Australian golf is much poorer with that news. In fact, I'd go as far as saying WA as a state is worse off. Terrible news. I hope the wedding is shit awesome 8-)

I definitely won't be available for this one. I comes right between the Indian-Harley club 2 day rally in Bunbury and my trip (my first) to Melbourne. So I will be saving all the pennies I can.

ok, the inaugural WA Major is done and dusted. Great day of golf with Nuffie smoking the field like was picked by young Adlo.

...but it's time to turn our attention back on to the WA Champs which will be on us in a very short amount of time, 67 days to be exact.

So we need everyone that is a possibility to make this weekend check in with their better halves, get the necessary time off work, book flights and get their butts down south.

Accommodation is sorted, a great house on the beach just outside Dunsborough, the courses have been decided we just need some more hands to go up in the air.

Can I get a Boorah! (just for you JC);)

Yes -he's not sure at this stage.

He doesn't get much time off from work or his Mrs. Once a week is pretty much all he's allowed to played unless he can squeeze another round in after work.

Not for the lack of desperately wanting to mate but I'm very unlikely.

Could possibly swing the Friday Ryder Cup day only if that still works for you guys.

I realise that but I didn't think you'd pick him - it could be the Giant Fweaks versus the 'Giant-challenged'.

I'm not sure who I'll pick. If Ziggy comes, maybe him so that I can keep an eye on him at all times!

idgolfguy
19th January 2010, 01:32 AM
Get yourself a weighted club or club sock and practise at home in the backyard to get those muscles retrained.

For the grip to feel natural you need to be swinging the club. Best not to actually hit a ball to start with.

Also buy Harvey Penick's Little Red Book. It's only about $20 and an easy read but you will refer to it over a lifetime.
