I think these would be perfect, free shipping, a new set of irons for under $450:
Callaway X-18R from 3Balls (http://www.3balls.com/product-productid/227086/CALLAWAY-X-18R-IRONS-4-PW-SW-MENS-RH-STEEL-UNIFLEX-GOLF-CLUBS)
or these:
Adams A7 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Brand-NEW-Adams-A7-Hybrid-Iron-Set-3h-4h-5-PW-Stiff_W0QQitemZ270479355379QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGolf _Clubs?hash=item3ef9d36df3) and even cheaper if you only want 5-PW (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-RH-SET-ADAMS-IDEA-A7-A-7-5-PW-IRONS-REGULAR-STEEL_W0QQitemZ400083553244QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGolf _Clubs?hash=item5d26d68bdc)

Why are you recommending shaft flexes when you aren't a club fitter, nor have you seen this guys swing?

If your off 26 you don't need stiff flex no matter how fast you swing it

Had regular and stiff and felt to whippy with the regular.
and Pro said i should get stiff again - as im no expert so im not really in a position to argue the stiff v reg.

I'm with Lawrence. If they were too whippy you were trying to hit it too hard.

I'd stick with stiff if thats what the pro said to use. You can't go wrong with any of the Callaways and Adams game improvement stuff especially at the price they go for.

Some people just have a quick transition regardless of whether they try to hit too hard, if the pro said stiff I'd stick with stiff.

Exactly right, swing speed is on a partial factor when determining proper flex. In addition not all "stiff" shafts are made equal, so it really comes down to specifics. Even if he's playing off 26, I don't see how an improper regular flex is going to help his consistency or game.

Most local pro's try and sell their "hard to move" stuff stuck in their cupboard to unsuspecting C-Grade wannabe's.

A quick transition? That doesn't make sense, If you have a quick transition, doesn't that mean you are hitting from the top? Gravity is what should be pulling you clubhead down, not your quick transition?

Nice attitude to take.

What doesn't make sense is two blokes who have never seen the OP, nor his swing, are so adamant in recommending shafts based on his handicap.

What sort of "pro" is he/she?

it's simple really, if you go for a lesson and the pros big fix for you is go back to stiff shafts, and not worry about getting a better swing, then he may, be full of shit.

I still maintain if ur off 26 you don't need stiff shafts.

Why ? What scientific method makes you say this sight unseen ?

Rather than crap all over Collis's thread why don't we split the difference and tell him to get the Callaway 18R's with the Uniflex shaft I recommended in my first post.;)

They are salesmen after all... and most pro's have a captive audience.

As opposed to another bloke defending him sight-unseen? I don't care what he buys, but I can't recommend stiff shafts to a 26 handicapper.

I could stereotype our friend here but.... no wait, I already have.

That's actually a very good idea.

You do know that there are teaching pro's who don't sell stuff?:)

Luckily, I didn't do that, I just told Collis to go with what the bloke who has seen him told him to do.;)

99 times out of 100 you would be right, and its no worse than the rest of the advice given here.

I think he should by some blades.

I find blades easier to hit than cavities, especially the newer models. I think my Callaway Protos are more forgiving than my 2009 X-Forged.

I would recommend demoing a few different clubs before buying. The Titleist AP2s/AP1s or new TM R9s would be perfect.
