......an A'HOLE!!!!

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/williams-the-tiger-tamer/story-e6frexni-1225795322136

Any legal-eagles out there? If I do the wrong thing and take a camera out on course, what right legally does bully boy Williams have to smash it without warning? Or legally do I deserve what I get from whoever has a crack at me?

I'll admit I've been reading too many US golf forums, where he gets a big rap as being a thug with fans...lol

Disclaimer - Stevie, I'm not travelling to Melb this week.

Nope, it'd be criminal damage if ole' Stevo did that. The organisers have the right to eject someone taking photos in breach of their licence to be there but that's about it.

He does the nasty stuff so Tiger looks clean. At least JD does his own dirty work!

I have no problem with Williams taking someone’s camera. The few times it has happened the person with the camera was in the wrong.

The only thing Daly did wrong when he bashed the camera was let the ‘dickwad’ have it back so he could sell it on E-bay. It’s a shame Big John didn’t lay a punch or two into him either.

Stevie is not an A’hole, but the people with the cameras are.

Steve did the right thing..

Bringing a camera to the golf is very lame indeed!

Any person who takes a camera into a golf tournament should be marched out the front gate, and have their ticket taken off them - even if it is a 6 day pass.

Agreed.

But they should be dealt with by the tournament security people, not some gung-ho petrol head caddy

Security needs to be tightened up if there are that many complaints from players about cameras.

I take it that the offender was a member of the gallery and not a professional photographer ?

Its part of his duties as the caddie for the world's No1. Tiger would probably love to smash a camera or two himself but he has to concentrate on his golf leaving the fun job to Steve. The incident at trhe US Open was warranted. All patrons are screened by security staff for phones & cameras as they enter the course. Only those with camera permits (official press personell) are permitted to bring camera equipment on to the course. If you bring in a banned item you get what you deserve.

hey as they said on 20-1 last night when they Featured John Daly, read the sign, if the sign says no cameras it means no cameras... simple.

I dont think Steve Williams is an ahole but hey if anything I am jealous of any of these full time caddies who have made very nice livings due to the success of their players.....

I'm surprised you support common assault, especially for something so minor as a camera, even moreso when there are adequate procedures in place for dealing with those who do break the rules.

So why don't security deal with these people? There have been quite a few situations where people have been found with cameras yet security only warn them & ask them not to take any more photos. Why not show some guts & take their cameras off them until the patron leaves.

agreed, i think it would be a shame if someone were to pull a camera out or do anything really that distracts a player and makes them play a poor shot.

At least mines a joke. Next time someone has a piece of technology that annoys me on the golf course, I'll grab it off their hands and destroy it because its okay for the pros to do it and Andrew says it's okay too.;)

In John Daly's case yeah he was just a member of the Gallery, and the camera that he had was just an everyday normal digital camera.

This has an air of WSC about it.

Last year, our local bogan was taught a lesson by the reigning world champion.

This year, he will be taking on New Zealand's finest.

Poor precious golf players. The click of a camera distracts them. Boo-****ing-hoo!

I doubt that the camera rule is even there for the players benefit. I assume that it's there to protect the photographic company that has the rights to the event.

What AndyP said.

Everything I read about Williams gives me the impression that he's always pushing his importance and doesn't want to recognise that my mother could Caddie Tiger in the US Open and he'd still probably win. He's golf's own John Buchanan.

All this camera kicking stuff is just another way to pump himself up and try to gain a bit of publicity.

When you are in the zone, which I will be, that sort of thing doesn't disturb you. It's only the sensitive pros that have an issue.

Anyone that knows me, knows that it's all words. I'm not a cocky person at all.

I haven't played golf with my own clubs for three weeks, so it's hard to be too confident. It hasn't hurt me the rest of the year though.

I also know that everyone on the forum loves me, and is barracking for my win, despite what they may have typed. Maybe even Lucky too.

I don't condone people taking in cameras against tournament rules but I think there should be more security to escort them from the event with the ticket ripped up as has already been said.

Nothing gives Williams the right to grab someone's camera and I suspect he probably picks his mark. Not that I would take a camera but he'd have none and buckleys of getting mine and if you did get into a scuffle with him who do you reckon would be at fault!

There is not one set of rules for us all.

virge666
14th November 2009, 10:05 PM
Didn't Tony Navaro do the same thing last year?

The sign on entry says no cameras or mobile phones. It is also on the back of the ticket under terms on entry.

Logistically it is too hard to police, as anyone who has been to "the big day out" and had alcohol checks,

If you want to risk your camera - don't cry when the caddie (who job is to look after his player, not just carry the bag) does his job in a way to show others that taking photos on a golf course is not bloody acceptable.

It ain't Rocket Surgery.

So in essence, if you risk it, don't bitch about it when you get caught

Lastly, a modern professional caddy does a shitload more than some of you guys seem to think, they more than earn their income and they also have to perform under a tonne of pressure.
