the one day break was good for my back - not too good for my swing...

tried a new putter today - Oddie Belly CS Mid...it's either an inch too long, or my belly has really gone out... :( I'm afraid it's the latter...

also got a V Steel 5 wood in the bag as well...had one shot with it...SOLID!!!

I played on Saturday gone, hacked around the front nine and shot 1 over the back with a double bogie on 10! I just read in the paper that I won the NTP on the par 3 11th hole (151 water carry - see here (http://www.geocities.com/c0urty/cairns080504.html)) with an 8 iron to 1m.

Actually it was on the right (shortest part of the green)... good to see your memory is working well

dissapointing double on the 9th to finish 4over for the 9...

Regular 9 holes yesterday pm.

Started out thinking it wasn't going to be my day. Par 3 1st gave PW too much height and the ball that was headed for heart of the green got blown off to the left. Pitched on and 1 putted for par. Next 3 holes all bogeys and then went birdie, par, birdie, par, bogey to finish at 2 over for the front 9. (par 34)

Again for someone off 22 I couldn't have been happier. My best 1/2 round ever. I don't think even I could've gone around in 20 over for the back 9 so hopefully things are coming together and my quest for 18 h'cap is on track.

Sounds like you are well on track, Virgal.
2 over for 9 holes!!!!!
I play off 13 and can't recall many nines that good.
(Although our resident nine hole expert, g69, probably has you covered.)

Hope you can convert the nine form into a good 18.

I scored 36 pts and made it seem difficult to do so. Played some very ordinary shots, but somehow avoided making any blowouts.

79 -6 = 73
I had 5 bogeys on the trot from 9 through 13  then hit the last 5 greens for 5 pars.

7 bogeys and 11 pars

So another round goes by without a birdie #-o :smt040

Result:
The 2ball is out, gooorne; in the cupboard…It’s the only thing I can put it down too :?

Even though it is my normal policy to only record real competition rounds for internet posterity, I've played two social rounds this last week that are both worth talking about for the courses. My game is awful at the moment.

Monday 14th - Camden Haven Golf Club (this is the course at Kew, that you can see from the Pacific Highway).

Tried to play honest and strict rules of golf, but I find it hard to record duffed chips and missed tap-ins. So the score was 'about 30 pts'.

Hit a grand total of 4 fairways, and for reasons I'm about to explain, 3 greens in reg.

The course is pretty straightforward and not very exciting, but the grass on the fairways was thick, and the rough was US Open stuff. Absolutely no run on the fairways, so the task was to hit the ball high off the tee. Kept losing the ball to the right, and every time it was a chip out or a semi-chip-out. Just about the toughest rough I've ever seen.

On a couple of the long par 4's I couldn't even reach the green in regulation.

Might be an easy course in a drought, but very tough the day I played it.

Thursday 17th - Kangaroo Valley Country Club.

Hillside golf. Almost every hole goes either up the hill, or back down again. No such thing as a flat lie. Because of the sloping lies, it was a bit difficult to determine whether I was hitting the ball well or not. 'About 31 pts', hitting 7 fairways and 7 greens in reg. One birdie, and one three putt (I had to count it, as I missed the second putt three times).

Kept missing fairways to the left.

There are a couple of great holes, and the mountain scenery is very spectacular, but this is just about the hilliest course I've ever played. I ignored the warning from the Pro Shop Guy and walked it, but a cart is essential. I hit a ball down a ravine at the side of a fairway and decided not to go down and get it to avoid the climb back up again (I gave myself a penalty and dropped another ball at point of entry, even though it wasn't actually a hazard).

Another week off this week, and hopefully I'll rediscover the key to a decent golf game (weather permitting, forecast is for rain this week).

....and one three putt (I had to count it, as I missed the second putt three times).

That's gold mate ;)

I know what you mean in a practice round though - every intention to play it as it lies.. but... No way, not counting that..... or that..

Played in a matchplay event today. Got done over 5/3. Not to take anything away from my opponent (he played quite well), but I was craaaap. I left my short game at home, and I was pulling everything left off the tee. The only shot worth mentioning was the 9 iron from a bunker 120m out which dropped & stopped 18 inches from the hole. It was one of only 2 holes I won on the day. :?

36 points today at Carnarvon (21 + 15)

Absolutely butchered holes 4, 5 and 6 from the centre of the fairway for a grand total of 2 points. I have struggled with these 3 holes for over a month now. During practice no problems, during a comp TOTAL F!!!UP.

2 points from 4,5 & 6

and yet still 21 points for the front 9s? :D

(I was 1 over after 8 today and then butchered the back 9s + the spare hole)

Funnily enough PL, I've targeted these holes for my next Carny round (should i be so lucky) as the holes i want to improve on. I was in the drivers seat last time on 4 (greenside for 3) and barely escaped with a point, and 5 and 6 aren't terribly tough holes, but both times i've played there i've buggered them up.

Sorry guys, played the back nine first. What made it worse was I birdied the first, lipped out on 2 and 3 and then :?: :?: :?: Maybe it was an alien abduction for 18 minutes liek onthe X Files. These holes are driving me crazy.

Fishy,

I don't get shot for 5 straight holes. 9->13.

I can usually get away with 9 & 10... but the pressure is too much on 11, 12 & 13

Caz and I played 2B ambrose for gross 71 net 66.25 which was good enough for a ball (why do we always play the same hole badly :? ) - we have a couple of burglars who seem to knock off every team event but never seem to play well in a singles

First medal of the year - I shot a shocker 106/84

It was a strange day for my swing - my drives were either going 180m straight down the middle or 140m hard right! I think I overshot every approach iron from 8i down by about 10-15m - I can't figure out what I'm doing that causes the ball to go further - every time it happened I thought it was a fluke and said to myself "don't count on that happening again".

Luckily Brad shot 103/85 and I took home the $1 bet 8)
