1 Month 1 Week and 1 Day to go.

Surely it is time to start this shit fight.

Who are the nominees?

I've only come in 2 shots this year so it can't be me.

Hux
6th October 2009, 06:39 PM
Hmmm been up and down but gone nowhere since I got my AGU in April...I am going for a late surge courtesy of the longer days in summer so I can maybe hit a few balls after work.
I have a long way to fall.

easy, go back to the traditional method. nominate yourself or someone else, and outline the reasons why (not limited to handicap reductions).

Person who donates the trophy decides the winner.

The law of first mention applies, Good onya Bruce for taking it on.

Grunt
6th October 2009, 06:45 PM
Wont be me, only improvement I have had this year has nothing to do with golf.

Bruce
6th October 2009, 06:57 PM
So we are OK with me taking on the arbitrary decision? Or shall with put it back with the traditional AndyP call?

Nominate with a reason and away we go.

ParMaster

Got to be in the running. However I'd be lucky to play off 24 whenever I play with other ozgolfers.

18.0 - 17.9 Yippee!!

henno
6th October 2009, 07:25 PM
If this thing went a little longer I'd go alright. Just like MT, handicap doesn't show the improvements (started on 20, still on 20), but the differences in the "played to" column in my golflink over the last couple of months is somewhat encouraging. In fact, just did the sums and my average round over the last two months is almost 7 shots less than the average of the three months before it.

ParMaster
6th October 2009, 07:34 PM
I nominate muddarfaarker.

Seriously though I think zac has improved quite a bit. Just like henno I believe is this went on another couple of months then zac would take the cake. He's been playing great golf lately and his results show that.

I am most improved. Ball striking is far better. Operation has improved my swing out of sight. I had some great scores, including 3rd in the Wynnum cup! All this from a choppy 27 marker 3 years ago :D

Haven't been able to score at all for sometime but hit the ball great. Found out recently I have an astigmatism and haven't been able to see a straight line. A new set of distance and reading glasses has made the word of difference. Last two rounds with the specs have been 73's. It is good to hear the ball fall into the cup, earlier.

I have never nominated before, and I don't know if my is monumental enough to count, however my handicap has improved so that every year at the champs I have been lower:
2006:26
2007:25
2008:24

AndyP

ferrins has dropped a heap. I didn't know him (other than his tennis exploits) a year ago, but halving the handicap in a year is impressive stuff.

peter_rs

Doesn't Most improved run the same time as Poty (champs to champs)

if so ferrins has gone from to 12.4 to 6.8 which is still good.

AndyP, buy the medal. Deciding most improved is easy. Go back to 'tradition', ask for nominations ( I see we have a few already) and either run a poll or get the champs match commitee to vote, as we did on the very first one.

You actually have to improve to be nominated don't you?

This is my first champs and haven't held my AGU for much more than 7 months.

Besides apparently there are far bigger sandbaggers around these places!

True not everyone is a sandbagger. Probably easy to get that reputation though...heck have 46pts in a social club comp. Fortunately 2 out of the 3 others in the groups saw my usual self destruct game today :-)

It should be because nobody can ever agree on who should receive the award each year.

Maybe we should have a poll of nominations of those who nominated before the Ozgolf Champs, where it should have been awarded, instead of retrospectively adding names.

Complete farce, abandon it.

On top of that she has to listen to all the smutty stuff the other blokes dish out !!

Time to knock this over, no more mucking around, there is a blank spot on the honour board.

The nominations are (though it seems some are just making up the numbers):
Julie
Grandmasterb
zacdullard
Hux
Ferrins (though he seems to be stretching it well in to 2008)
Peteyd
Just
Minor threart
any more?

My suggestion to decide, is one that reflects improvement in scoring potential, taking a leaf out of the USGA handbook.

To take the average best 10 scores handicap 'played to' of 2008 (miss out on Jan, big deal) , and compare to 2009 calendar year.

biggest improvement wins, totally transparent!

if no 2 years record in Golflink, you cant have improved then so stiff you miss out.
if you dont understand what i am saying, dont worry about it.
only an improvement since that date of joining the forum counts.

Unless of course someone has a better idea, please go ahead and organise it.

TheNuclearOne
18th January 2010, 12:38 AM
27/12/2008 - 15.2
19/12/2009 - 10.8

At least 3 others have me totally flogged tho, not to mention i didn't play the Champs. Even a best case high and low for the year only gains me 1.0 difference. Some very impressive drops, well done guys n' gals.

I thought we had already decided to abandon it because it was a complete shambles, plus you can't go changing the rules after the fact MTB ( I know you always like to think you can). You seem to want to hand out an award just because you want to fill a blank. It wasn't handed out by the champs, forget it and start again for next year.

Eag's
18th January 2010, 07:42 AM

plus you can't go changing the rules after the fact MTB ( I know you always like to think you can).

there were no rules and there is a medal to be handed out.

there is no good reason not to do this. it was only a shambles because nobody got off their arse to organise it.

just

Whatever Blakey. I'm not going to argue, I've said my piece. Hand it out to whoever you like and I'll ignore it for the farce it is.

AndyP
18th January 2010, 04:51 PM
The only thing that kept it interesting was tracking handicaps throughout the year. The simpletons couldn't accept that this wasn't the decider for who won most improved. So when the handicaps stopped getting tracked, noone seemed to care about the award either.
