Playing here tommorrow in a junior event.

Any suggestions or help on how to play the course? Any info is appreciated.

Haven't played there for 10 years, so I don't really have any advice. I must say though that apart from 19 to 27 (hopefully they won't make you play those holes) it is still one of my favourite courses. Greg Norman has described it as the Augusta of Australia. Maybe not that good! I'm not sure how it has fared through the drought. Are there many ACT boys floating around here?

It is going to be cold, very cold. Wear plenty of thin layers.

If you hit it straight you should be ok. I like the course but I don't think its overly difficult track frm my two rounds there. Greens and general course condition is always immaculate (although I don't know if they have cored recently)

1-18 is the best of the 3 layouts winding through the old trees. 19-27 is very exposed and would be very difficult if the 50k winds that are predicted turn up.

So long as you stay out of the trees you should be right.

Which course are you playing?

I worked there for 5 years. I'm sure I can have you blocked at the gate.

I remember being behind lots of big pine trees!

From memory you need to be very straight and it also helps to be on the "correct" side of the fairway on a few of the doglegs.. If the greens are quick you should have some fun!

Being from NSW I don't think you should have any trouble with the greens, though there are some subtle breaks and you do need to be on the correct side of the hole to get the easier putt.

As the others have said, keep it in the fairway an try and pick the correct side to open up the approach shots. It is a real nice course.

Remember the wind chill factor as well. I'd say closer to 6 or 7 degrees with the wind. Make sure you rug up!

Its pretty mild now - probably 5 or 6 degrees. The rain looks ominous and the wind is starting to pick up.

77 of the stick. That's pretty solid considering the reports of the weather.

WBennett
6th October 2009, 07:28 PM
It ended up being nice - about 14 but the wind got up around 12.

We had a lovely hailstorm about 4 but with some luck it missed RC

Are the results up on the web anywhere?

If so, might be good to watch and get a couple of free lessons!

Where else do they play at in Canberra?

WBennett

Unfortunately Capital, Queanbeyan and Yass.

With Quangers being the highlight, the other two not quite so

I checked out Capitals greens (well practice chipping green) and it looked 100%.

Why they playing all the way out at Yass?? WTF??

Well considering I don't know that event exists chances are I'm not playing it it. :D

I had alot of fun today. It was about 12 degrees but was pissing down rain for 3 holes (11,12,13).

+6 on the front 9 because I was spearing my drives (**** that shits me) and -1 on the back finishing -3 in the last 4 holes. 8-)

So overall I'm happy with the day.

Apart from the 600 km drive.

By my reckoning you should have only hit driver 2 or 3 times on the front nine.

Anyone had a hit at Royal recently? I'm guessing the course would have appreciated the return of rain in recent years.

I havn't played, but a mate is a member there and I remember talking to him mid April and he was saying the course was in pretty average shape, so much so he said he would be embarassed to take anyone there for a game. At that stage he was hoping they didn't get anymore rain and some warmer weather before the winter cold set in... needless to say they had a horror run about two weeks ago with a week of sub zero temps so ho knows?!

I can contact him if you like?

Mega

Despite Sydney flooding, we have had no rain since January.

However, if a Canberra Super could not have the course in good nick considering the rain we had from Oct to January, they should be out of the game in this town

A mate called me yesterday and the rumour is the RC isn't at it's best right now and Federal is in far better nick (fk that hurts to type).

MegaWatty
5th June 2011, 09:46 PM
Bloody hell. Federal was said to be crap not so long ago.

Did they end up selling off land around Federal?

The reason for re-igniting this thread was because I jumped on the website today and saw the pictures on the front page. There is just something awesome about that place.

I will, although with Mum and Dad leaving Canberra, it'll probably be a long time before I'm there again.

You mentioned your membership when we played the other day, which is what made me jump online and have a squiz. ;)
