I have never been comfotable with this male partner bonding ritual. In Tennis when doubles is played they all do this soft low five between every single point. I watch my son play doubles and this compulsive hand tapping makes me cringe. Basketball is not a bum tapping sport. Nothing like Cricket, AFL, Baseball etc. I played basketball for many, many years and the bum tap never happened. If it did, I think I would have found a new sport.
