Forget all the homo finger pointing; the real issue is what sort of person doesn't use iron covers.

John Wayne did not use iron covers and we all know what a man he was. ;)

Someone who can handle bag chatter and does not care about resale value of his or her irons.
Someone very tough indeed....
BTW...i have ordered mine through ebay. Havent recieved them yet.

I don't anymore. Irons are worth bugger all these days, so not too worried about protecting against bag chatter.

I used an iron cover today that i found in the shed on my vokey today. Must admit i felt like a bit of a homo taking it off, flubbing the chip then putting it back on again.
Worst $28 ive ever spent.
I might put them up here and see what i can get for them.

1) I'm not bothered by the 'clank clank' noise nor am I bothered by people that object to said clanking.
2) they get lost.
3) Mizunos with bag chatter look cool.
4) Only wankers use them.

Not a fan myself either, for a number of reasons already mentioned plus a couple others:
- pain in the arse to remove, put aside, then replace (driver and putter headcovers are bad enough)
- why bother protecting a piece of metal from clanking against its brothers when you're hitting it against turf, rock, sand, etc at over 100mph?
- the look and sound of a nice set of irons in a bag are two of the aesthetic pleasures of the great game of golf
- I like my irons and have no interest in their resale value
- unless you are completely anal and comprehensively clean each club after every shot, wouldn't they actually collect dirt, sand, etc and scratch/dirty up your clubs anyway?
- they really are a bit gay
- they REALLY are a bit gay

Iron covers are essential for the golfer who plays with graphite shafted irons which is no different to wood covers on graphite shafted woods. Unless of course his clubs are freebees each or every other season. The clanging of metal on metal isn't the issue for me; it is metal on graphite.

AndyP

So it's okay to have covers for your woods and putter? Double standards.

Graphite shafted irons are already gay. You might as well have iron covers because you can't be double-gay.

Irons clanging together won't damage the heads but not cleaning clubs properly before putting on head covers can leave rust marks on the heads if they are still wet so no more iron covers for me.

Putter head covers are pretty gay. Like pool sharks who carry their cue around in those tiny brief cases.

putter headcovers are necessary if you don't want a dinged up topline.

They never told me all this at the store when I bought head covers and graphite shafted clubs, they should come with a warning. Is it reason enough for a return?

At a guess: Head covers on all graphite shafted Callaway gear means a free entry to Madi Gras and lifetime membership at The Beat.

Ray, I don't get it. I just went for a walk around my yard, carrying my bag containing irons without headcovers, and the club heads don't come anywhere near the shafts.

Hey Mike, that's going to the extreme. Mine do on the smoothie buggie when they are arranged haphazardly, and they certainly do in the car. If I had a clip-lock bag probably wouldn't need the covers, but I've got a top of the range Cally carry bag. Mate if you can cover one of your hands with leather why not an iron. Personally I hate golf gloves, should be banned.:)
