31 points at Virginia today.

Didn't putt too bad and hit the irons alright, but my new driver was all over the planet for the first few holes (2 wipes in the first 4)

Jarro, you did well to scratch out 31 points considering the driver's behaviour had you behind on most holes. A better hunt for the lost ball on 4 might have prevented a wipe too.

01/09/2009, Virginia GC, Single Stableford.

12/14 effective tee-shots.
6/18 effective approaches.
2/7 up and down successes.
1/2 sand saves.

---------
6 pars.
10 bogeys.
2 others.
Score 39-46-85 stab 21-12-33 (Par 35-36-71 CCR 71)

I'll get the negative out of the way first. My irons shots are ruining me. They are having a big impact on my ability to score well. I had a think back through every full swing iron shot and worked out that 7 out of 13 of them put me at a big disadvantage, that is, in the trees, a bunker or having to get up and down from very difficult positions. I'm starting to think that I need to do something about it.

I had a big turnaround in my driving. It is back on track now, and it was great the whole day. Putting was good for the first half of the round, but seemed to go a bit cold in the second half, especially the longer putts. Then again, the approaches are making it hard work for the short game.

Ferrins mentioned at the end that I let a good round get away today. I think I escaped a couple of bad shots on the front nine, and the bad shots caught up with me in the end. Still, if the irons can go within 10m of my target, instead of 30m, then I should start scoring okay.

Next round: One within the next couple of weeks hopefully.

Just plonked my arse on the couch after my third big day of golf and third new course in as many days!

Sunday was 78 at West Sussex
Monday was 79 at Batchworth Park

Today I had 79 at Royal Wimbledon. +2 after 11, then threw away a few shots on the way in. The stretch of 5-11 was played in -1, which was promising, but I still can't put a full round together.

The wind was crazy, too. 30mph all day. That is the one big difference I find over here, even 80km inland you get some crazy wind pretty much every day. Definitely takes some getting used to.

30 putts after identifying the cause of my putting problems on the back nine yesterday (bad posture), at which point I had 9 putts the last 7 holes yesterday and then 30 putts today.

I suppose the fact that I can play far from my best and still post sub-80 means things are heading in the right direction.

A day off tomorrow, then I'm playing Walton Heath (Old) on Thursday and a single stableford at Royal Cinque Ports on Sunday.

I went 47-37- 84 stab 13-21-34 ;)Did you notice that 7 of the 11 hardest holes on the course were on the front nine? And then the next 4 were in the last 5 holes? It's not often that it's not a pretty even spread.

Can anyone explain to my why the index 1 (stroke index) is index 15 in the match index? (I think it was 1/15 from memory.)

I realise they move around, but that is oodles of difference.

I realise they move around, but that is oodles of difference. The match indexes are completely independent of the stroke index. The match index order, which is usually the same on every course, ensures that shots are spread evenly over the whole round during a match.

midweek game today, as I'm on hols. Today was meant to be the start of excavation for the pool, but the rain on Sunday/Monday delayed that. Perfect excuse for a game of golf.

85 gross for 32 points (14+18 ). Hit it ok. Had a heap of 3 putts. 6 or 7 I think. Should have been an easy 36-37 points... The 0.1 back takes me awfully close to a 10 hcap. I haven't been out to 10 since I started golf 18 years ago. :-(

Played at Walton Heath (Old) today, rated 21 in GB&I and hosted the 1981 Ryder Cup. A sensational track and my golf for the most part was the same.

35pts, course rates one-over and it was windy as hell, 3-4 clubs most of the day.

10/14 fairways
10 greens

3 birdies
3 doubles/wipe (lost a drive in thick heather less than 1m off the fairway!)

Two-putt par on 16 for birdie sealed the win in the match 3&2 as well. Not a bad day all told.

I thought I'd wasted my day off today after taking five to get down from just off the green at the third today, and in the end I probably did waste it due to some bad putting. But my 39 points is still a good score that might have been much better. That will probably be the CCR today, though. Camden Valley is now an easy course, and conditions were perfect.

Nice ton. When are you going to sell all that gear?

Had a hit with Mayhem and Yossarian this morning, Wembley Old. Club was having the limited clubs trophy.

Twas a tale of 2 halves for me:

85 nett 71 (39 front/46 back)
6 Fairways
3 GIR
27 putts 8)

Hit a lot of chips close, and had a PB for lowest putts in a round. Hit the ball quite well for 10 holes and really lost my way after that.

Finished 4th in the trophy, should have been much better.

Played today at NSWGC and shot about 78 after I picked up on the 16th hole.

No really great shots except some awesome drives and getting over the 5th holes ridge on my drive off the plates. So the 260m drived rolled out to 350m and left me a PW in.

The single most amazing moment in golf happened to me today. On the 6th hole we played off the Island tee and it's about 180m to the pin. I stick a 4i to 2 feet.
But the view....OMG:D:D I wish I had my camera there to show you how amazing it was. Words don't do it justice.

The sunlight was hitting the water and the waves were pounding into the rocks. The sunlight was hitting the rocks and it looked like a pearlescant blue/black color. There was a little waterfall like feature off to the right, and there was a hazy mist covering the green because of the pounding waves.

Just amazing.

I thought your back was rooted. Or was that just an attention-seeking exercise?

My back is feeling much better lately. Doing some excercises that are working Ok.

Monthly Medal at Paradise Palms with my Dad for Fathers Day.

I had a 10 on the first hole and DQ'ed myself on the 4th. I couldn't keep the ball in the right postcode. You name it, I hit one (usually in multiples). I didn't finish out a bunch of holes but I would have easily raised the bat. I'm so distraught I'm gonna take a 3 week break from the game.

No golf in en zed then?

After today, I don't even wanna think about it at least until I get back. I think I'll be booking myself in for some lessons with Luke.

Well played coff, Never give up courty. That sub par round could be just around the corner. Or maybe you need a Chipper;)

Sounds like you and the Titans had something in common this weekend... NO ticker.

I'm sure Scotty Prince shanked a few kicks, too.

Babinda Open today.

Must say for a Club with less then 20 (male and female) members they have done an excellent job. (9 Hole Course).

Their greens are the best they have been for well over 8 years, apart from a little too much thatch they had excellent coverage, held good speed and line and the ball was holding as well. (Not that I putt consistently enough)

For those that don't know, this place and Tully fight it out for who has the most rainfall for the year (Golden Gumboot), so to not have slime and mill mud to putt on let alone some very good quality stuff was pleasing for the pride that their members take in the place.

(For those that remember Cyclone Larry, Babinda and Innisfail is where the Cyclone did the most damage when it crossed the coast)

They also had 39 players in their field (Men's Comp today), which is about 25 more then they have had for most years on average.

83/71 (Par 72)
26 putts
9/14 FIR
3/18 GIR :smt013
3 penalties

Yay! I broke 100 yesterday

I was having a major chop, even by my standards, on the front 9. Was my worst ball striking in weeks managed to card 51 despite a 9 early in the piece. Reset at the turn and shot my best ever 9 for 42 to card a 93!! Very happy today.

The trick will be trying to improve my consistency so I get those brain-fart holes off the card.

Now you know you can do it!!! Just always use the memory of the back nine and it will get easier for you ;) Plus practice and coaching help.

Good work pieface, 51 is not such a bad score for nine holes.

Thanks Yoss. I was very happy to score 51 with the way I was hitting the ball. I finished single, single, par on the front so it was pretty ugly prior to that.

I'm aiming to get under 50 for each 9 holes at the moment but also trying not to beat up on myself if I don't succeed every time. I think I read somewhere about good golfers having short memories
