1966 Toyota Corona RT40 - in red with a black vinyl roof, and a "moon roof" - otherwise known as a bubble window on the side of panel vans!
The stereo was worth more than the car...
Got stopped by the cops a few times for not having a seat belt, but they weren't mandatory in WA in pre 1967 cars :)

1976 Honda Civic.
A bit like the one below, but mine was white with one of those black vinyl roofs they did back in the 70s. All my mates had Geminis and Escorts, it was nice to be a little different.
It cost $400 + $90 worth of fibreglass and bog to get it through the roadworthy.

My first car was a Japanese Racing Orange Datsun 120Y sedan.
I was looking for a 1200 Coupe as we had a 1200 Coupe race car. All the go faster parts transferred from the race car to the 120Y anyway - in the end it ran 13x7's, lowered 2 inches, twin SU Carbs with a 1400 motor and ported head.
Had it til I was 20 - and in that time blew up 3 motors, 2 gearboxes and 2 diffs. But it was great fun to run in hillcimbs, motorkhanas, khanacrosses etc.

1980 (ish) Subaru wagon - 1600 instead of the regular 1800. This turned out to be a bad thing when I blew up the gearbox and had to pay more than what the car was worth to have it replaced. Like Kev, the stereo was worth more than the car in the end.

I lived with a bloke in uni who did the exact same thing. His 120Y was lowered, had mags, a metallic blue paint job and a bigger motor. The shocks were basically non-existent and he drove it like a rally car regardless of the driving situation. From memory his blown parts count was very similar to yours. :)

I grew up next to the pineforests of Canberra - everyone wanted to be Neal Bates. In Year 12 we had the unofficial carpark studies class - wag Friday afternoon to go to the Pinies, then race around the forests for 2 hours. The car body count was enormous - Mazda 929 rolled, Datsun Stanza written off, 1600 written off. But amazingly nobody ever got hurt...
Best thing about owning a 120Y - I bought a whole spare car for $50 from a little old lady, wrecked it for parts, replaced my (blown up) motor with hers then cashed in the 3 months rego for $50! About 2 months later her motor blew up (no idea how )
The replacement 1400 cost $250 and could not be blown up!!!
Mum and Dad had an exhaust shop at the time, so in the end I was running extractors and a straight through 2inch exhaust. You could hear this thing a mile away.
The lesson learned was when it was time to sell - it went to a friend of the old mans for $500 who only wanted the motor for his ute. The car probably owed me ten times that!

HQ Stationwagon, best car I ever owned. Cost me $1,800 and took me surfing every weekend for about 5 years from Wilsons Prom to Apollo Bay.
The speedo would sit on 60kmhs when I was stationary at the traffic lights and if I went over 120kmh the speedo would bounce like a metronome.

That Sigma was cool. Is it the one you pranged on the Logan motorway?
My first car (in 91) was a 76 Escort coupe that cost me $2k. I was ripped off. It started out green with an oily 1.3 litre. I spent about 5-6 years and every cent I had fixing it up: cut out all the rust, repainted it in Metallic Blue Pearl, put on Rally Pack half bumpers, put in a new 1.6 motor, gearbox, diff, weber carby, inlet manifold, extractors, 2" exhaust, cam, Ghia dash, rewired it, reupholstered the interior, put in Ghia seats out of a Laser, new carpet, sound proofing, new stereo, Ghia alloys, etc etc etc.... By the time I sold it, it was a nice little jigger. The pimply kid who's mum bought it for him was stoked.
I sold it in 97 and bought a 94 VTIR Integra and entered a whole new world of motoring! I've never had the urge to fix up and old car since.

Similar, except mine was born 6 years later (1992)...and I still own it. I only got into car ownership 2 years ago though. Bought it with 65000 on the clock, and have driven about 21000 since then. I'm thinking of an upgrade of some sort within the next 12-18 months though...probably a Calais or SS ute.

I had a 1974 TC Cortina, with a slightly worked 250 motor, could get it up to about 200kph, scary on some of country QLD roads back in the early 80's. Wrote it off going up to Agnes Waters, back in the days when the only road up there was a corrugated dirt road.

Too ugly to warrant a reminder photo and I still see one on the road from time to time.
Met it's untimely death (head gasket) at a round about. I held the traffic up nice and proper. Perhaps the one thing it did do properly! Despite this, I had some great memories in it

Great ute, but bugger-all room in the cab. No room behind the seats whatsoever. And just chewed petrol.... All the gear I had hanging off it probably didn't help much.
Did a lot of work to this one myself, with assistance from future father-in-law. Ball joints, bearing & shocks in the front end. Also had to replace the clutch.
There's only one thought that goes through your head as you're lying underneath your car with the gearbox resting on your chest.... No more burnouts.

My cars:
1. 1986 Toyota Corolla Hatch - I got it in 1995 and it had 8,000km's on it. The local newsagents wife drove it downtown and back a few times a week for 9 years. 3-speed auto, no air con. Made for a heap of fun when I moved out to Coonamble for 12 months.
2. 1997 Nissan Pulsar Plus - got it new, was as mediocre as it sounds.
3. 2000 Peugeot 306 GTi-6 - massive regrets in ever selling this car. Drove amazingly well, as close to a hot hatch that Peugeot has ever got since the 205 GTi.
4. 2003 Peugeot 206 GTi 180 - pretty disappointing...the ride was ridiculously hard, engine not all that fast, build quality more french than usual.
5. 2007 Volkswagen Golf GTi - 3 door (built in Germany rather than the 5 door's from South Africa) Manual. Incredible car. Can't see me getting rid of this for a fair while.
